New MJ content (Possibility)

Prince was known to write and record anywhere from one to two songs per studio session for a fair portion of his career. His creative method was more or less, “I’m gonna record whatever comes to mind, even if it won’t be released,” whereas Michael’s was, “I’m only gonna record what’s really worth my time.” I don’t like Prince in the slightest, but it’s no wonder that the Prince estate is able to churn out project after project; they have FAR more to work with.

Yep. Which is nothing but good news for the Prince fans. They have decades of future material ahead of them. Unfortunately we cant be as optimistic. I think it's the trade off to MJs method of Quality > Quantity. It's part of the reason I'm just more focused on concerts/docs. Mj left his best/majority of his work while he was still here. I still hope we get some new music very soon though :)

About Prince’s unreleased songs, Shelby J and Morris Hayes (two of Prince’s closest collaborators for many years) revealed that most of his unreleased songs are actually releasable.

That is true because Prince used to record and finish as many songs as he could without caring if these songs would get a release when he was still alive or after his death.

What he all cared about was that these songs to get a release at some point in the future.

So, whenever he recorded songs, he almost always finished them.

Also, unlike Michael Jackson, Prince could write, record, play the instruments, arrange, produce, mix, master, etc, most of his songs, so by being a more flexible and independent artist he unavoidably had the privilege of having more unreleased, complete songs.

Wow, not only do they have MUCH more material - he left it there all in place & organised.

The job the MJE have is not even remotely comparable - a much, much bigger star and a *lot* less possibilities with scattered material (some lost).

Yeah he had a literal vault lol.

This why I think the MJ estate will probably release singles/EP's over the years instead of albums. I'd be happy with that approach tbh.

If they could get John McClain to work on a couple of songs that'd be awesome. I think he could do justice to "Lovely Way" or a contemporized version of "We've Had Enough"

I still very much doubt that all of those 8000 tracks are songs. I bet they are including other stuff in order to make the numbers seem higher.

Yeah, I know Prince was prolific, but I don’t believe for one second that he has eight thousand release-ready tracks. Some of them have to be half-finished, instrumentals, or somewhere in between. No doubt he has tons of unheard tracks, but 8k? Nah.

From what I read, Prince was better at finishing projects before shelving them for later release than MJ was. MJ had a few songs that he got pretty much complete and then later had released ("Come Together", "Earth Song", probably most if not all of the Anthology tracks) but he never had full albums -- as in a collection of songs meant to go on the same record -- just sitting in the Vault collecting dust. After a project's deadline was missed or it was released, MJ just moved on from what I've read, maybe taking a track or two out for the next project.

I think it comes from Michael having an "it just comes to me and falls into my lap" approach, where he just came up with the instrumentals and lyrics for tracks all at once, which probably isn't a very common or productive way to make music (since I imagine you spend a lot of time waiting for the right inspiration). Prince likely had a more methodical and "scientific" approach like other artists, working on riffs or tunes here and there and writing a line or two of lyrics and building albums simultaneously over time.

I agree with this. Prince and MJ are two VERY different types of musicians. MJ seemed to do most composing in his head and then when he was happy with something he would dictate to musicians around him what he heard in his head.

They are surly including live recordings, jam sessions, after shows, etc... in that number. My guess would be around 1000-1500 actual unreleased realized tracks in that number. Which is still absolutely astounding.

He did a nice job with LNFSG. But Behind The Mask, I didn't care for. I need to hear the original production for that. I'm sure it's much better.

Apparently the Greg Phillinganes version is basically the exact same as Michael’s. And if so, I don’t need to hear it. It’s incredibly generic ‘80s synth-pop (in my opinion). I absolutely adore McClain’s cut.

Same. The 'hee-hee' backing vocals that were spliced behind the chorus in "Behind The Mask" is amazing, as is the saxophone solo at the beginning. When I first listened to it I was like, 'Damn Michael busted out a sax live in concert and the crowd went nuts'

Behind the mask is an amazing remix imo. Perfectly modern whilst sticking to the original.

Behind the mask would be a 10/10 if not for the bizarre crowd noise

His actual, unreleased and complete songs are more than that.

Various sources (including his sister Tyka Nelson who is also one of his vault’s archivists) have confirmed that there are thousands and thousands of such songs in his vault.

Press reports over the years have also spoken about thousands and thousands of such songs that Prince kept storing in his vault during his career.

For example, for his ‘Purple Rain’ album (1984) alone, there are more than 200 unreleased, complete songs.

It is interesting to note also that Prince did not just shelve countless, complete songs, but he also used to shelve entire albums during his career (and all of these numerous, shelved albums contained releasable songs).

I saw in a PBS documentary released after Prince's death that he forgot the code to his vault which is why he never released much of anything from it before he died. He had shelves outside the room where he would put things that would go into the vault if he could get in there -- called the "Pre-Vault" by his staff

Has anyone tried putting the crowd noise from the concert and align it 100% perfect with the song's crowd noise, then invert the audio, resulting in a muted crowd?

Putting the crowd noise and "how you doin" audio is just the weirdest decision one could ever make for such a cool 80s track

Yeah surely some of the geniuses here would be able to do it?

It’s probably my 2nd biggest question about the whole album. Why Cascio & why the stupid crowd sound!?

I tried this back then when the album came out.. but i could not match the audio exactly... so it didnt work.. but maybe i should try again.

Maybe your skills have improved a little bit since back then - give it another shot and let us know. I'd "return" to listen to that version again if the crowd and "how you doin" audio disappeared

The crowd noise and stuff fits into the remix fine imo. Not something that has ever bothered me that much.

Out of all the songs released posthumously this one might be the best. It’s the only one that I listen to on a regular basis. Most of the other remixes have not aged well.

Yeah, I agree. It’s such a minor part of the song that I never take notice of it. I actually think it works wonderfully in the intro — conjures up the image of MJ performing it live.

I thought it was very thematic, like the remix of "Another Day"

I really wish we had the full version of the leaked Another Day pre-Michael mixed 1 min version. It sounds way, way better than the more "tame" version Lenny did for Michael. Really too bad it never fully leaked.

Still have my hopes we will hear it one day, but very unlikely

The original leaks of Another Day and Slave to the Rhythm were better than anything that was released on the albums.
