The difference is Dangerous doesn’t feel like a long album whereas invincible does m. I think the sequencing plays a large part.
 
Talking about length of Albums, History disc 1 is 71.30 mins. Thats over 5mins less than Disc - 2 and/or Dangerous. So, if space was'nt a limitation, why did they leave out Dirty Diana and Smooth Criminal.

Also, I did'nt know until recently that 'Girl is mine' did'nt reach the summit on the Hot 100. (Peaked at no-2). So unlike IJCSLY, 'Girl is Mine' could have been left out and we'd have had space for both Smooth Criminal and Dirty D on Disc 1.

‘The Girl Is Mine’ could not have been left out because they decided to include (on the ‘HIStory’ disc 1) all the lead singles from the ‘Off The Wall’ album onwards.

Also, they did not want to include ‘Smooth Criminal’ on the ‘HIStory’ disc 1 apparently because that would hurt the sales of the ‘BAD’ album.

People were still buying the ‘BAD’ album mainly because of ‘Smooth Criminal’, and if ‘Smooth Criminal’ was included on the ‘HIStory’ disc 1, then that would dramatically decrease the sales of the ‘BAD’ album.

They also left out ‘Dirty Diana’ because there were already two other rock songs on that disc (‘Black Or White’, ‘Beat It’), meaning that three rock songs would have been too many on the same disc for a pop singer.

My apologies Lubyss, it was my fault. What I meant was the albums felt long, rather than the actual length of them being long. Dangerous flies by

There's a few too many similar songs on HIStory and Invincible, especially Invincible, were perhaps the pace of the album might have been better served picking the best two ballads or love songs and have them on the record, rather than having 4 or 5 similar tracks on the same album
 
The loooong intro to WYBT, the intro to BoW and HtW could have been left out.

First few times I heard the songs it was ok, but now when I wanne hear WYBT I do NOT wanna listen to more than 2 minutes intro. - same as the 1 minute intro to Heal the World. And the WYBT single version starts perfect - but misses the last spoken part?

Has Heal the World ever been released without the intro?

The Free Willy soundtrack version skips the long intro but still includes the last spoken part

But while searching I discovered that Childhood was the theme from Free Willy 2.

As far as I know Heal The World as not been released without the spoken intro. But I think that the absolute worst spoken intro for an MJ song was You Rock My World.

Yeah, that was cringe... - But YRMW has been released without the intro, and thats nice.

Yep 100% I love Chris Tucker as well but they should have left that bit out. They stuff they do in the video is better anyway
As soon as the beat hits I'm reaching to turn YRMW up, I think the spoken word intro spoils that feeling just a bit

This is not unpopular, but it needs to be said. The fact that "Someone put your handout" wasn't on the Dangerous album was one of the biggest "really?" moments in MJ's albums song listings. Easily could have been a late night radio hit.

And it seemed like Michael really liked that one too because he used the instrumental of it as an interlude on the Dangerous Tour. I wonder if he kept it in the back on his mind so it could possibly be used on a future album.

I think MJ would have released it properly at some point.
 
Michael had so many great unreleased songs that he could have released a lot more albums than he did. But more albums means more touring, and we all know how much Michael loved to tour.
 
I think MJ could have released more albums - or EP's without extra tours. - Like HIStory and BOTDF.

Had MJ released an EP with left-over songs from Thriller in 1985 and a EP with left-over songs from BAD in 1990 I don't think he would have toured more.

But MJ was pretty obsessed with sales - so to release EP's with only 5-6 songs and propably lower sales was not his style I think.

MJ wanted to make 1 super perfect album every 5 years or so - promote the hell out of it, singles etc. and sell as many albums as possible. And he succeded.

Michael Jackson did not release more albums not because he hated to tour, but because he had a certain philosophy about the power of mystery and how it keeps the general public and fans interested in his music.

Michael Jackson believed a lot in the power of mystery: the number ‘5’ triggers, according to him, the greatest mystery and particularly the fifth door.

Here is what he said about that to his spiritual advisor Rabbi Shmuley Boteach (in the early 2000s):

“…I do love the power of mystery, I really do. I think it’s very powerful… There’s six doors, you can open any of these doors. But the fifth door, don’t open it. Don’t open the fifth door, no matter what... I only do an album every five years. Other artists do an album every year and my albums outlast and outsell all the other artists. And people wait for it. There’s like, you know, a whole pulse going on about this album...” (Michael Jackson, The Michael Jackson Tapes)

That is true because the singer used to release his adult studio albums every 5 years roughly, and after ‘Invincible’ he was about to release his next, new album after 5 years (by means of a Bahrain-based record label).
 
Not sure if it has been posted before, but the intro of Black or White is really cringe.
 
There are countless examples of unnecessarily long intros in MJ’s catalog post-Bad. “Jam,” “Heal the World,” “Black or White,” “Will You Be There,” “Dangerous,” “Stranger in Moscow,” “Earth Song,” “2 Bad,” “HIStory,” “Privacy,” etc. I love all of these songs, but you can usually shave at least 30-45 seconds from the very beginning.
 
The long unnecessary intros started with Bad on ISCSLY. Thankfully that intro was removed on future releases of that album.

Long instrumental intro's I got no problem with, because at least there's music being played (But I will admit WYBT drags on too long). It's the spoken intro's I don't like.
 
Disc 2 of The Essential MJ (European version) should’ve featured more HIStory songs. The HIStory era was more popular in Europe than the USA, so songs like “Scream” and “Blood on The Dance Floor” should’ve been included instead of forgettable singles such as “In The Closet” or “Who Is It”.

They started even before the BAD era.

The ‘Thriller’ song comes to mind with its nearly forty-second unnecessary intro, or the ‘Off The Wall’ song that its intro drags on unnecessarily.

Also, they should have removed the rain sound intro from the ‘Stranger In Moscow’ song.

It would have been better if the rain sound was being played (in the background) throughout that song, just like his sister Janet Jackson does in her ‘Warmth’ song.

‘Who Is It’ and ‘In The Closet’ were not forgettable singles in Europe, but very successful singles in that territory at the time.

Actually, it was mainly because of ‘Who Is It’ that the ‘Dangerous’ album achieved bigger chart and commercial success in Europe in the early 1993, and right after Michael Jackson’s live beatboxing of the song in the Oprah Winfrey interview.
 
As great as Remember The Time is it just doesn't get me fired up like most of his other songs do. It's one of those songs I need to be in the mood to listen to.

What are your hottest takes about MJ’s discography? I’ll throw a couple in to start:

- Off the Wall is Michael’s worst adult album. It’s good, but the genius moments are few and far between. Michael didn’t reach the stratosphere and artist until Thriller.
- “Privacy” is pretty good. I only got into it over the last month or so, but it definitely gets way too much hate.
- Dangerous would be Michael’s best album without “Why You Wanna Trip on Me,” “She Drives Me Wild,” and “Can’t Let Her Get Away.” They’re all decent, but they don’t measure up to anything else on the album.
- “We’ve Had Enough” is VERY overrated. It’s a great song, but I don’t think it’s the holy grail of MJ’s outtakes.
- The Estate’s priority should be on releasing new music. They have a MUCH higher chance at commercial success than anything else, and are basically guaranteed to draw people in. (Plus, how can you turn down new MJ tunes?)
