Michael - The Great Album Debate

So, not sure what the kids say, but accord to some comment on this video, 3 weeks ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-75BloRDu0s

Taj Jackson talked about the Cascio Tracks fiasco recently on the MJCast and said the excuse Eddie Cascio gave for obviously sampled legit MJ vocals, like what you hear at 4:04 on this song, was Michael would bring with him samples of his pre-recorded adlibs, etc. to use on new songs if he wanted to. That's one of the most ridiculous and laughable excuses/lies he could've told. When Michael was alive, he had no need to reuse his adlibs or vocals from previous recordings. He would do new ones. It blows my mind that anyone behind the scenes fell for this deception and, not on 1 but on 12 songs!

Not sure if this is new info.

Someone was asking if Michael had any knowledge of the so-called "Cascio Tracks." In my opinion, he very well may have. There was word that Michael had heard "Let Me Let Go" by Jason Malachi and thought it was eerily impressive how it was making the rounds on the internet as a "legitimate" "new" Michael Jackson song. There was word that Michael thought it would be a fun experiment to use Malachi to test the water on new tracks or as a test-vocalist for demoing material he did not have time to record personally, so that he could "get an idea" as to what it would sound like with his vocals on it. Similarly to how R. Kelly would demo out tracks for him.

Like I say - there was word, so none of this is confirmed. But it is, indeed, what I have heard.

Pretty sure this is just an old rumor started by either Jason himself (as he was active on forums back then) or his team/fanbase

This thread is legendary, I wonder how many posts I have here 10 years ago

Edit: 500 posts

I remember posting in this thread so much when it was happening.. it was truly heartbreaking. MJ had nothing to do with these weak ass songs & justice needs to happen!

One of the worst things about it was all the fans who blamed fans like me that we were destroying MJ's legacy. LOL, glad they are all gone

Speaking of those, where are they now? Are they lurking nowadays on JM boards?

Speaking as someone who was initially in the "real" camp, there was a lot of denial in fans around that time, and shock. It was and is such a shocking, disrespectful and near inconceivable thing, you know what I mean? It was not until some of the real genius audio forensics started taking place around here that it just became truly undeniable.

The smoking gun for me was the fact that you can take any Michael Jackson song and find another where he sings the same note in the same way. However, with the Cascio tracks, there's no companion to be found for any notes he sang - only with Jason Malachi (they're nearly identical), but not with Michael Jackson.

i wanted to believe it's MJ on Monster / BN, but once i heard all the Cascio tracks, it was too obvious it was all sung by someone else.

I wonder how and why they approached Jason doing those songs. i mean Cascios had no connection to him before? how did they find this clown?

The smoking gun for me was (...)

For me it was the vibrato. But I must say before I read all the stuff about it, including this analysis : http://www.damienshields.com/site/w...on-the-Michael-Album-Dr-George-Papcun-PhD.pdf I just didn't pay attention.
Spotting the flaws here actually trained my ears at listening more closely to singers.

At the same time, I had a very long time not listening to MJ a lot, I have kind of skipped Invincible and onwards, it was unclear for me if his voice could have changed that way. Some singers voice deteriorate at that age... But then I also heard "All in your name" which made me realise that MJs voice could still be even more impressive that anything heard on albums.

Now, re-listening to the Cascio tracks, it's so obvious that MJ is nowhere in those... But it took me some time to be sure.

how did they find this clown?

Not too sure if he can be called a clown... Not while we don't have the full story of how he and these tracks were recorded and ended on the album. His voice seemed to do the job for many people...

But yeah ... how did he end up on the album...

jasons vibrato is very VERY different than mj's ever since let me let go came out i was always shocked how fans who listened to mjs voice for decades can be fooled like that, the tone might be similler but the vibrato man the vibrato is OFF

It may already have been said, but Cascio tracks, while being totally intentional, remind me of Britney Spears/Myah Marie thing. Myah Marie was her background singer for some time, and, in 2013, while working on a new album (Britney Jean), a sound engineer allegedly deleted Britney's vocals, and so they had to call back Myah Marie to fill the gaps. As a results, Britney Spears barely has 3-4 songs completely sung by her on this album, the other songs on the album are, at least, "completed by Myah Marie" and there's some songs where Britney Spears is nowhere to be heard.

Wow, this is truly insane.

Was MJ at least a little bit involved in production of 12 infamous Cascio tracks? or he had nothing to do with these tracks? First of all i want to make something clear: i know. that vocal is not his. Its kinda obvious. Im asking about writing lyrics, making samples and so on. Because i searched a lot of information about that, and i got mess in my head.
1. We knew that Michael have lived in Cascio house for 3 month in 2007 (but one of the tracks was made in 2005, which is weird...), and +- he could make by that time all 12 songs (i mean at least melody and main lyrics).
2. We know that MJ sang "Water, water" on this is it rehearsals. And don't you think that its kinda weird, that we have THREE songs with name, which means water (first is H20/ dark lady, recorded 2007-2008, second is "Water", recorded in early 2009, and the last is one more called "water", recorded in 2007 in cascio house). Thats why maybe MJ was mentioning exactly the cascio track, when he sang "water, water" on this is it rehearsals? Or Cascio just brazenly stolen the name and a few lyric lines from Michael song?
3. We know one very weird fact that Michael have never mentioned Cascio tracks in his own tracks list of song, which he was willing to release soon after this is it tour
4. Also, i think its kinda weird, that lyrics from "water 2009" and "water 2007" almost the same:

water 2009:
It's just the water, water
Trying to take a piece of my mind
It's just the water, water
Trying to take a piece of my time

water 2007:
Heaven's like water, water
Drowning my love, it feels like
Heaven's like water, water
People leave me alone

that cant be just a coincidence. Maybe cascio's water was something like demo of water 2009? Or maybe MJ heard Cascio's water and didn like it, and therefore he created his own "water" and when MJ died, cascio took the opportunity to release his own water (which MJ probably denied to work with) under MJ name (even though he didn't manage to)

wtf is this!?

It's crazy that this thread was started 2010... It almost feels like an entirely different life. I was still in school then and i remember the anticipation for the Michael album. It's amazing how fast time flies

Where did you find the 2009 Water?

“Water” (the real one) hasn’t leaked. Those are the lyrics, but it’s only been heard by a select few people.
