Thriller 40th Anniversary

I wouldn't be surprised if they pushed a song like Hot Street or Carousel as a single leading to the release. I just wish they'd take the opportunity to give more content on that first disc. It's looking a little bare considering they could add songs like the 12" mixes, Can't Get Outta the Rain and Someone in the Dark as bonus songs to fill the disc up and give us more music.

Hot Street ft. The Weeknd. I can see it now as the first single.... :)
😱

If the estate wants to go out of the box, they could release the Sly & Family Stone song "Hot Fun", despite it being not recorded for thriller.

That was more Sony's idea though, Michael hated remixes.
Nope. Sony proposed
  • That's for All Time (For All Time)
  • Got The Hots
  • Hot Street
  • She's Trouble
  • Nightline
  • Thriller 2007 Remix
as T25 bonus tracks. It was Michael who rejected those songs.

Please watch this video (note: its voice over narration is in French but English subs are available)

His bodyguards said in the Remember The Time book that he was pretty reluctant in making Thriller 25, arguing against making remixes saying things like "You don't mess with art", maybe he didn't want to release the songs on a Sony album and settled with putting out remixes? I know he absolutely didn't want to release the BOTDF remixes.

Wild. We could have gotten a better project for Thriller 25.

Well the PYT and TGIM remixes are technically remixes of the demo versions. WBSS and Beat It, I can't remember they were so awful. Kanye brought nothing to the Billie Jean remix but to his defense, how can you when it's already a masterpiece. For All Time wasn't even recorded for Thriller. Looking back, that was an odd project.

Some of them aren't all that bad honestly, I even prefer TGIM remix over the original version. The BOTDF remixes just sound awful though, Michael never even heard them on first place.

I think it was Will.i.am who encouraged him to rework some thriller songs.

Also, this is Thriller 40. We're so close to Thriller 50, which is a bigger anniversary. So, have to wonder if some material will once again be held back.

I hate how the Estate focuses solely on Thriller, last year was MJ's 50th career anniversary and we could've gotten a bigger project, it was such a wasted opportunity...

I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it
I'm about to lose control and I think I like it
I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it
And I know, I know, I know, I know, I know I want thriller40

People have forgotten, but WBSS 2008 remix (with Akon) has vocals that MJ himself rerecorded, a PR release is somewhere out there of them confirming that WBSS has new MJ vocals. You can clearly tell also.
yeah it's rumored that there is a complete version of WBSS which Michael reworked and also a few others

I look forward to the unreleased music and 4K short films also. Rather early to announce without listing entire credentials, I understand the surprise factor though. I'm not expecting much but only time will tell.

But if The Estate releases ca 10 unreleased tracks and all short films of the Thriller era in 4K, what are they doing for the 50th Anniversary?

Yes Michael is on record saying he did not like remixes, but also approved having his music sampled and straight up covered (SWG, Rihanna, Alien Ant Farm etc) I remember those same bodyguards saying that although MJ didn't like remixes, he liked (would have) that newer generations discovering his music decades later. From time to time, shared the stage with younger stars while preforming his songs, and watched other artists cover his songs in concert, It's complex.

That is 10 years from now! Who knows what's going to happen by then, how the world will change. I hope they don't hold back too much and create the best release they can.

So for the 4K short films.. what will it be.

Billie Jean
Thriller
Beat It
(Say Say Say?)
Motown 25 Performance (but i doubt it was shot on film cause its a tv show)

Yes, me and another user here confirmed it ourselves also.
oh sorry didn't see it

Can't be Billie Jean, 4k isn't possible with 16mm
1080p is fine though

Motown 25 is tape 100%

Why is everybody so excited about 4k short films. I can clearly see what’s going in them in “lower” quality. I’d rather see them release behind the scenes footage.
