Thriller 40 Disc 2 - POSITIVE ONLY Thread

Not that I don't like it, but it's just a demo that can't compare to She's Trouble in terms of polishing and quality. The solution would be to release a box set full of demos from all eras rather than few on a Thriller re-issue which doesn't contain The Lady In My Life full version, Niteline and Hot Street.
That's an interesting idea, a demo-only release. Though I don't know what would be the market for it beyond the hardcore fans

Where's the love for The Toy? 🙃 I'll basically repeat what I said in another thread, but despite how basic the instrumental is I love the simplicity of it and I absolutely love the new harmonies. It's interesting to see the vision MJ had for this song seeing how much Neff-U changed BoJ.

I doubt that the market for Thriller 40 is any different. The second CD is only for fans. Luckily it costs only around 15 bucks, so it's not a rip off.

Oh, my idea is not to release only the demos, but everything they've got. Full release of snippets, demos, unreleased songs in a nice luxury box and it's time they stopped milking us with already released stuff and now empty space on the second cd.

They completely missed the opportunity by not doing that on MJ's 50th anniversary career. Hopefully they'll make a box set in the foreseeable future but I doubt they'll make one seeing how they're more focused on the mainstream audience and not the fan community...

I LOVE The Toy!!! Having never listened to Best of Joy yet (I think I have actually...but maybe only once? the Michael album is the only one I haven't listened to in full yet) I feel like this is a brand new song to me. And I'm in love with it.

Seriously, I described it to another fan off the forum as being lifted up into the sky lol. Idk what I even mean by that, but I just adore this song 😍

Honestly with Thriller 40 I don't know if the mainstream audience is targeted. I fail to see who's targeted here. Only fans like us who want to possess official release of the demos will buy this. If I were a non-MJ fan and wanted to buy Thriller, I'm not sure if I'd go for an extra CD with demos unless it's the same price tag as the usual Thriller CD.

Love it! I already love the Best of Joy, and its essentially the same. I do have a slight preference for BoJ lyrics, they are tad bit more joyful :)

CGOOTR - I was prepared to not like it, but its kind of ok.
The only one I really skipped is Got The Hots - can't get around to loving it. Its sounds generic.

Behind the Mask is kind of interesting, I think lyrics have "who do you know" (I never read lyrics), I cannot make out if this one is positive, negative, scary, love song, hate song!

:) again focus on the positive, don't let negativity get to you. We are the fans, we wanted a release and we have it! Who care who is the target, or if they sell billions of copies or not, that's Sony and Estate's problem.

I love she’s trouble. Especially the bridge, great 80s vibe, fully realized vocally completed song. The extended outro is great as well. Great filthy danceable bass sound.
I never realized this was an awesome track because of the bad quality leaks. It is fire! Personally it is as good as anything on thriller and it is not surprising to know it was part of the tracklist at one stage.

got the hots is one of the most hated MJ tracks out there but I firmly believe most fans have mud in their ears. It is an infectious sing along song with a great vibe. A very worthy track from the vaults that wouldn’t be out of place on thriller

Hey, f&m, I've only listened to 3 tracks so far. I'm in deep communion with WDYK. I'm up for suggestions as to what to listen to next. I don't listen to albums in the track list order, I always jump around.

Thoughts?

I love WDYK so much, I'm feeling joyous and frivolous!

I would focus on the positive the day The Estate stops killing MJ's legacy. I don't mean to be negative, I'm a positive person, but I deeply hate injustice. Michael's posthumous releases have been extremely unprofessionally handled, with the slight exception of Xscape album. Michael didn't deserve such incompetent people.

Can anyone justify why they release CGOOTR on a Thriller 40 (an already released song coming from before Thriller era) and no Niteline, Hot Street, The Lady In My Life full version, Human Nature full version or demo, Thriller Video Mix, WBSS extended version, Slapstick, ... no Halloween promotion, close to no promotion at all, and 10 tracks on the second CD with lots of space left? And I'm not even mentioning the "artwork" of the merchandises on their official website which is just copy pasted photos on t-shirts without any art at all. Keeping positivity with such poor management is burying one's head in the sand. I've been a MJ's fan since the 80s and what we see today is a mockery, not management. I personally find it unacceptable. They're not serious and they're way too unprofessional.

Sorry can’t help you this is the positive thread and my post has already talked about the only positives

Doesn't matter. I'm skipping around like a spring lamb!
I do the same. I did not know there is an order to be preserved! Usually either i put it on shuffle and repeat and be surprised, haha. Or I create my own order in a playlist. So hop hop, hop like a 🐰

@staywild23 go to sleep 😴

She's Trouble is in excellent quality.

Honestly who cares outside of the 10 super core fans here! I never heard that song before and I am happy that it's here. You be happy for me instead then 😂

I slept for 2 1/2 hours!! I can only keep away from Michael for so long!!

Honestly, I love that song lol. And you know what's funny? Fan friends of mine who aren't on here, as well as some who I know on Facebook have all said they love it too 😂

I do understand if there are legit reasons it shouldn't have been included, but for the song itself it does seem like a lot of people love it!

OK, that's next up.

Btw, I don't disagree with the points you made in your longer comment. In fact, I agree with everything you said. But, right now, I'm not in the mood to focus on all the failings of MJE. Michael's vocals on WDYK are so magical, I'm not prepared to give up any of my headspace to MJE. Not today.

Love this thread. 🥰

I'm actually not angry they included it on the second cd, I'm more angry that there's space left and they haven't released Niteline, Hot Street and The Lady In My Life. There was enough space and those songs are more relevant to Thriller than CGOOTR.

That is extremely fair! And I don't disagree with you.

@staywild23 Thank you so much for making this thread. I really don't understand the pushback against it since there are already so many other "positive only" threads on here, so I really don't understand how this one is different. It's also simply just refreshing because I don't like excessive negativity, even if the criticism is valid.

To be honest, I'm probably not gonna listen to the new songs until a few months from now when everything has settled a bit; I just feel bad about it all. That's all I'll say for now given that this is a positive thread, though I guess at least I'm not complaining about the songs (since, well, I have yet to hear them). This isn't a new thing for me BTW, I should've just not followed the hype.

I hope the upcoming documentaries clear up some cloud. I would really want to know which tracks were specifically worked on for Thriller. Half of the T40 tracks are clearly just added for extra numbers.

In my opinion the tracks that didn’t make the cut are really good. There was a great double album possible. There is a lot of joy to be found in hot street, nite line, she’s trouble, carousel, got the hots and sunset driver. If there are finished up versions of behind the mask and who do you love (read: get rid of the awful drum machine sound and place live drums over it) you got yourself a disc that is worthy of being a full album release.

1 Hot Street
2 She’s Trouble
3 Carousel
4 Nite Line
5 Behind The Mask
6 Sunset Driver
7 Who Do You Love
8 Got The Hots

This would have been a really solid 80s album imo, that’s a 1984 release right there.
