Thriller 40th Anniversary

Cool to hear the demos on disc 2. The sound is so weird. Like Xscape and Michael had bad sound quality but this is like EQ'd in some super weird way. Things just sound off. I can handle compressed music (even if I don't like it), this just sounds like they went out of their way to make it sound terrible. A flat transfer would have been a bigger improvement.

i am waiting to watch billie jean in 4k youtube there should be 5 videos im confused 😕
The best strategy is to not wait for anything, just be surprised when something shows up. There is lot of information / misinformation floating around and no official communication from Estate. So if Billie Jean happens, be happily surprised

Did someone notice the distortion on the S-sounds on the Atmos version of Human Nature? Its what is referred to as sibilance that can be heard on Vinyl records. Rest of the mix is pretty good, i maybe would have liked some more bass going to the sub.
Listened to this on a 7.1 system, so i did not get to hear the height channels from Atmos but seemed pretty good.
Someone else who use Apple Music on a Apple TV 4K box? Human Nature in the Atmos version and the version on the T40 album both have this distortion, however when streaming the T40 version in the browser that one is fine. Very strange....

I'm sorry Hiker, but the person who said about the Billie Jean video doesn't need to have confirmation from the Estate, though at this point he said that plans have changed and he doesn't know what's happening.

I trust mkgenie 110%, he's been right about everything, unless clashes like this one (between Sony and Estate) happen.

oh, I did not mean that was false information, I mean the whole "release" seems such a mess that even if it was all planned, it might get cancelled or delayed or disputes or whatever. mkgenie seems quite genuine, and I trust you guys to know more in that area :)

just some general thoughts about ‘thriller 40’.

I honestly don’t need to hear anymore demos/remixes/outtakes. they only highlight the fact that the best material made the Final Cut . the seven singles (especially the radio edits) are classics that I never stopped playing. nothing else will ever compete with that.

one thing that shines through on these previously unreleased songs, is michael’s vocals. they were in peak condition. effortless, pure, soulful, smooth, playful, versatile.. they alone elevate the material.

I think it’s endearing and exciting, that John branca has set up a TikTok account to post about Michael. he comes across as a fan and friend of michael’s. he’s literally known and worked with him since the beginning of his adult solo career. he probably has a lot of interesting memories and stories to share. I, personally would love to hear them. he already has a decent amount of followers.

I think the TikTok, activations, the way in which each track was revealed each week, was an attempt to think outside the box, and be innovative in terms of running a promotional campaign. it actually seems in line with how Michael would operate. it’s been an adventure that’s kept everybody talking - for better or worse..

I can’t get over the fact that michael’s zombie makeup in ‘thriller’ is green and not grey. that’s what 4k quality does. I can’t wait to see ‘billie jean’. that’s always been beautiful to look at 💜

there are at least five documentaries that I’m looking forward to; ‘thriller 40’ by Nelson George in January, the ‘victory tour’ on cnn, ‘the sonic fantasy (I think it’s called that?), ‘the stories in the room’ podcast series, and mtv recently announced one.

I found out today that Michael will also have a Sirius fm channel hosted by Steve ivory, for a limited amount of time. I welcome them all 💜

This is the main thing I'm getting so far. His vocals are killing me. They are awesome. Haven't listened all of Disc 2 yet but, so far, his vocals are out of sight!

I think I'm in a minority over this. Not enjoying Thriller 4K, the bits I've watched. The spookiness has just dissipated for me with everything being so bright. I grew up with the original version so maybe that's it. It's just what I'm used to. But, for me, the original has SO much atmosphere. But I'm certainly not looking for agreement from anyone on this. I think I'll be waiting a long time for that. :ROFLMAO:

ooh, what was the MTV one? Didn't know about that.

Yeah, this looks interesting.

Yeah, this looks interesting.

I can’t seem to find the link for the mtv special anymore 🙁 I’m not sure if it was a documentary or some sort of celebration. it was upcoming though. I read about it earlier.

Just picked up the physical package and I’m more convinced than ever that there’s some sort of falling out with the Temperton estate. Every song has a (legitimately well-written) blurb ahead of it… EXCEPT for “Baby Be Mine” and “The Lady in My Life.” Obviously those are the album’s only non-singles, but seriously? Not a single word, especially when they’re often called the album’s most underrated tracks? Even the blurb for “Got the Hots” says more about the engineers than it does Temperton.

From a french article, as to why we might miss songs like Hot street on thriller 40.

" Will there be other Michael Jackson unreleased one day?

Yes, assures Laurent Hopman, there are still many unpublished works by Michael Jackson. Some, like Hot street , and Night Line , have already leaked, but in poor quality. “There are a dozen or so titles, recorded during this period, which we know of and which are sufficiently accomplished to be interesting. But these titles, produced by Quincy Jones, will not be released as long as the famous producer is at odds with the singer's estate.

"The estate did a musical show in Las Vegas, 'Michael Jackson One,' using recordings of music produced by Quincy Jones, but they remixed it, partly to avoid having to pay royalties." The dispute even went to trial, with the producer claiming millions of dollars from Michael Jackson's estate.

Another producer, Steve Porcaro, member of the Toto group, also owns a few. "But the estate was not ready to pay enough to have them", underlines Laurent Hopman."

Who is Laurent Hopman?

Quincy is the glaring omission from these documentaries. sadly a lot of the people originally involved with these projects are no longer with us. rod temperton in particular is key. maybe there’ll be some archive footage?

The burbs in the booklet are just the same poorly written ones posted on the website.

Edit: I guess you mean the original album tracks only?

It wouldn't surprise me. Seems the estate fall out with everyone lol. I'm sure it's everyone else's fault and not them at all.
