Those songs were mostly held back because they either didn’t flow with the rest of the album or weren’t yet to MJ’s standards yet though, not because they were “too good” for a particular project. That’s the thing that doesn’t make sense to me.I don't know, it's exactly what he did to a lot of songs throughout his career (TWYLM, Chicago 1945, Cheater, APWNN, Buffalo Bill and many others for example) so I totally buy it. Besides take a look at MJ's reaction when it came to certain songs leaking, when the Thriller outtakes leaked he didn't seem to mind but when it was a song that he had plans for (Escape and Hold My Hand) he'd be pretty upset. I do believe that he was going to use the songs at some point.
Yeah, MJ had a tendency to care when it’s a song he was actively working on. I have no doubts that he wanted the world to hear those songs; I just don’t buy that he said, “I don’t wanna waste the best material on this album! Let’s wait for the next one.”
