Thriller 40th Anniversary

Bro, the main point here is streaming services. Get every single MJ listener on the planet to go back to CDs or local files and you're good.
MJ got 8 billion plays in 2018 iirc and that's revenue the Estate don't control or has any input on.
Good luck trying to convince gen z to listen to mp3/flac files locally.

No I think you’re misunderstanding what I meant haha. What I meant was, fans are somewhat encouraging their behavior of delivering subpar projects by supporting them. If their lazy projects all had terrible sales and their revenue over all is low they would surely attempt to do something about it.
This concept of supporting the Estate is complete nonsense, in my opinion. When I am listening to Thriller 40, for example, I am not supporting the Estate, at least in my mind. I am simply listening to new music from my favourite artist. I am fulfilling my own personal satisfaction. I am not listening to Thriller 40, thinking that I am making John Branca rich. That thought doesn't even cross my mind. I don't think that fans need to make other fans feel guilty for wanting to listen to new Michael Jackson material or going to MJ Musicals.

Precisely this.

no nonsense at all..
It's same with TV shows... if a tv-show is not watched by enough people it will be canceled.
If not enough people buy a certain release the next release will be different.

It's a hidden track. Early demo of BTM🤭
Homegirl is the demo of behind the mask. You can have this if you order the album on the Ugandese market in Wakanda, it is one of the earliest versions of the thriller album back then still called starlight. Pretty rare. My friend told me all of this, it is true.
Source / any more info? I can't find any information about this track, is it even real?

I want to speak for myself here: most streaming services have the worst possible masters of each album and they sound like crap. It's not even respectful to MJs work and vision of his own craft to listen to them if you ask me.
I understand the convenience factor which plays a major role, but people who have only listened to MJ music on streaming platforms have never really listened to it at all.

But vast majority of people in 2022 consume music via streaming.

Streaming is directly supporting them financially, same as buying their products like cds, merch, etc whether we like it or not which sucks. No need to shame anybody though

But why should I not listen to Thriller 40? Because certain fans aren't happy with the quality of the products released by the Estate? Personally speaking, I was happy with Thriller 40. It wasn't perfect, but it had many redeeming qualities. There are certain fans that will complain about every single product that the Estate puts out. So I am not going to give up on consuming new music from Michael Jackson, just to please the likes of Damian Shield and co.

What was the reason for no Dangerous 25 tho?
Normally, anniversary reissues are saved for albums that are popular amongst the public. Even though Dangerous sold over 30 million albums, Michael's three most popular albums are Thriller, Bad and Off The Wall and all three received anniversary reissues. Dangerous sadly is a more of a forgotten album, just like most of Michael's work post 80s.

But having said that, I do hope that someday we get an anniversary reissue of Dangerous, History and Invincible.

I'm sure we'll get anniversary reissues at the 50th anniversarys

The only negative thing of Thriller 40 imo was that there was no 2LP set.

My comment on all this bad mastering topic: Nowadays, most people listen to streaming or on their smartphones so songs are mastered for this. And I don't have anything against it but here all people talk about how bad it sounds but that's just an issue which came due to the loudness war and people listening to mp3s on their phone. There is nothing we can do about that. Also the songs sound okay. Not really bad, not audiophile good. Average quality. Just compare the songs quality with other newer releases. Sure, better mastering would be better but nowadays literally no one (except the hardcore fans (including myself)) cares about audio quality and proper mastering because nobody notices it while listening to their Spotify playlist.

I imagine the real reason, rhetorical questioning notwithstanding, is they wanna use those dangerous outtakes for posthumous releases. Work That Body, If You Don't Love Me, and Serious Effect have quite a lot of hit appeal actually.

Not Work That Body. That song is awful.

MJ Estate 2022 Wrapped
Next Month: Billie Jean 4K MV (I think it's Jan or Feb 2022) and Thriller documentary
“Billie Jean” was released as a single in January 1983, so perhaps they scheduled this to coincide with its 40th anniversary and the doc? Great idea if so, though weird that they released the first two shorts so far in advance.

I speculated this a little while ago. Billie Jean 40th Anniversary. Though I thought it was in March.

Definitely an interesting thought, though if they were going that route, why not then hold off releasing “Beat It” 4K until the single’s 40th anniversary in February? Too many questions, though I’m excited to see the answer.
