New All-Star Tribute album?

He said he'll do it if Katherine gave her blessing. And nobody said he was tryna release the MJ vocals, just using the song.
He also said something about MJ being a producer and having an input on the production on that interview so I'm sure that it goes for both. He also backtracked on that statement about Katherine and now says that he won't release the songs no matter what.

Well if MJ ain't singing it then he shouldn't care. He also said he'd let an American idol contestant finish singing it.

Will is gonna do whatever gets him the most attention and money. You can’t go from “I’d never put these songs out with MJ’s blessing” to “the mean old estate said I couldn’t use one of the songs on my album” and back. If he’s put in the right position, he’ll sign the contract.

Hmm - Tribute album... - I am not interested in those really. - Like The cast of MJ singing... Not something I would ever listen to.

BTS - K-pop - they lost me totally right there... - Their english is bad, and sounds strange IMO. - I have no interest what so ever in hearing them singing MJ...

Bruno Mars on the other hand!! - Got my attention. - He is a huge MJ fan, loyal and has never said anything negative. Only praise. He could do MJ justice I believe.

BUT - they will need to make this like Xscape IMO. - They need to let us hear exacly what MJ left. - If there i a demo with MJ mumbling or giving directions or anything then we need to hear MJ's version and vision. - Also so we know if the finale product has anything to do with MJ.
Otherwise it could just be the producers songs. Where would the MJ involvment be in that?? Just his lyrics and then a totally new production?? weird.

There are so many things I do not understand so far. - But we do not have many informations, so I will not conclude anything yet.
Surely this comes from a good place and a tribute to MJ should always be given the benefit of the doubt. I hope it will be good, and I hope we will hear new MJ vocals and his last version of the songs. But BTS and korean musicians??? I do not like the sound of that in any way...

That's really uh, rude.
Not meant to be rude at all. But if I was to sing in fx french - I promise you many would complain about the way I would sing it. It would not sound french at all and it would no way sound very bad.

It's like I've heard people say MJ did not sound good when he sang spanish and french. - It sounded strange, which makes sense since he can't speak those languages really. He has just learned the words and have been teached how to say the words. I don't speak french or spanish, so to me he sounds like he's doing OK, but I don't know really. :)

Maybe the Estate will be open to letting other people use their unreleased projects still, they allowed Drake to remix and release Don't Matter To Me not too long ago.
I think Paul Anka engineered the song with Drake behind the Estate. Then when the Estate saw Drake's ratings, the Estate agreed. In the FAQ, they say that this will never happen again...

I couldn't find where they said that it wouldn't happen again. Although by their wording it makes it seem like they'd allow a project like From Heaven to happen if it means that it would introduce MJ to newer fans.

"In July, a sample from a previously unreleased Michael Jackson recording, “It Don’t Matter To Me”, was licensed in a new similarly titled Drake recording, “Don’t Matter To Me” to further our intention of introducing Michael to new generations of fans through collaborations with current artists. This duet would become Michael’s 44th top ten Billboard chart hit."

Off-topic but I would like to give a little insight on that note since I am native from Latin America, and I can assure you, saying that he didn't sing good in spanish would be absolutely crazy imo. Going from Todo Mi Amor Eres Tú (and the little he sang in Todo Para Ti) which I've heard a ton he practically sounds native and crystal clear in terms of accent for the almost complete duration of the song, couple that with his heavenly vocals and you have an incredible version of it that is just as good as the english one. Sure, you can nitpick certain moments where you can hear his original spelling/accent of certain letters in some words but on that regard I'd say at the most those would be like 2 or 3 words where it happens (how he says "nadie te querrá como yo" at around the beginning and how he says some R's throughout the whole thing) which all in all is pretty goddamn impressive, and I'm completely sure 90% of other english-speaking people trying to pronounce spanish (be it by learning or not) wouldn't sound as good as how he did during that song for a while. And as I said before, in terms of singing you cannot beat him, and by how good he sounded in terms of pronounciation along with singing I always felt that he could definitely pass off as native in the language (or during the times he sang it) if it weren't for those small quirks here and there that happened in his spelling at times. Now, I can't speak french, so I can't say anything on that territory, and I most certainly am not speaking for every spanish-speaking person, but as I've seen from comments and the like there's a lot of people that also think he pronounces things very well and clearly, along with how he sings, so I think it's important to show the other side of the coin when it comes to how he spoke or sang in the language. I get what you're trying to say, but not a good example on that regard in my opinion.

Anyway, since I don't want to just debiate from the topic for no reason and leave it at that, april is not far away at all, so if the project releases in june, in which part of april would there be more info on it? I guess it can depend on the time between the info drop and the release, so on that note I guess there could be more info spreaded throughout the time it takes for that to happen... though I'm just speculating.

Has something been announced yet? Saves me from scrolling through the thread….

Well. I'll accept that, even if I don't still agree. But I guess I get the point.
I just want it to be state sanctioned, which I think it has to be to use any lyrics.
I just realized you meant estate sanctioned, that makes more sense than, state sanctioned. Wasn't sure why the government of a state needed to be involved but, oh well.

The Estate will definitely want those songwriting royalties, so that's a huge way to accrue cash actually.

Michael was what many casual listeners probably think is the only attempt to hear MJ post-Invincible. The estate is very interested in modernizing MJ, to reclaim that feeling. I see nothing wrong with making today's youth, today's artists, lament the passing of a great artist like MJ, imagining what great music he could be making today. And big artists like Bruno covering the songs is one way to do just that. And it'll probably go over better to a degree than just a demo, which as always, some people will say is shoddy and just "taking advantage". Which may be true from a certain point of view.

As long as people know and appreciate that these are songs made by MJ, and that MJ was a songwriter and a hitmaker.
