Your top 5 LEAST fave MJ solo songs (Motown excluded)

Interesting... here are mine in no particular order

-The Lost Children
-2000 Watts
-Heal the World
-She's Out of My Life
-Childhood

  • Slave To The Rhythm (Justin Bieber version)
  • Girlfriend
  • If You Don't Love Me
  • Can't Get Your Weight Off Of Me
  • Invincible

1) One More Chance
2) Monkey Business
3) Invincible
4) Come Together
5) Got The Hots

I strongly dislike the first two and would never listen to them. The other three, I can listen to them from time to time, depending on my mood.

And I must say that I love much hated songs like Girlfriend, Don't Walk Away & You Are My Life.

1. Thriller
2. Ghosts
3. Is It Scary
4. Threatened
5. Mind is the Magic

I don't like any of MJ's supernatural/horror tinged tracks. I'm not into magic at all. The melodies are all pretty cracking though, so they're not uncatchy at all. But I'm hoping this won't start some huge debate (it might).

Bonus points go to Speechless. That one, I never actually have found catchy.

Regarding Girlfriend, isnā€™t it more that it is a relatively weak song on Off the Wall? ā€œHateā€ is such a strong word.

And what is this about Donā€™t Walk Away and You Are My Life. People hate them now? The time is out of joint!

Girlfriend is a relatively weak song on Off The Wall, but I like the fun and carefree nature of it.

I'll stick to the "canonical" six albums 1979 - 2001.
  1. The Girl is Mine... it's not bad in itself, but it lacks that "edge" which the rest of Thriller really excels. So, it always winds up being a skip. The song works surprisingly well on HIStory Disc 1, though.
  2. Speed Demon... this one is interesting production-wise, but it never really pops. Feels like it needs a little something extra to push it into "great" territory. Weirdly, the Nero remix on Bad 25 is actually wonderful.
  3. Can't Let Her Get Away... Feels too similar to Driving Me Wild, but less inventive. Usually a skip.
  4. Heal the World... again, not bad really, and I enjoy it sometimes. But in the context of MJ's anthemic songs, this one feels the weakest.
  5. Ghosts / Is It Scary... These feel like two incomplete halves of the same song. They needed more work, maybe synthesising them into a single great project.

Iā€™m a bit sad that heal the world gets mentioned here and there. I understand it is not someoneā€™s cup of tea because of sugary sweet lyrics but purely judged from a vocal and melody stand point it is a genius work. He sings so soft on this song it completely melts me but my favorite part is actually the ending when the kid joins Michael in harmony and ends it solo. I find it breathtakingly done. The music is also relaxing, gentle, calm. There is some really warm bass playing, love the acoustic guitar strumming, the strings. It was always a song that could wind me down, it has that quality.

It was one of many compositions by MJ when you just knew it was going to be huge.

HTW is so underappreciated by fans, it's sad

Tbh, I've had an up-down relationship with HTW. At first, I wasn't keen bc of the kids' voices, especially at the beginning of the song. Of course, I understood what Michael was doing but I'm not keen on kids' voices on records. So I liked the song but felt it was weakened by that.

Once I made my peace with the intro and outro I was able to appreciate the song for itself and, I agree, it is genius.

Susan Fast - 'Dangerous'. P.82:
"One of the reasons - perhaps the main one - that Heal The World is so easy to write off is because it's so laden with convention. There's a deep-rooted suspicion of convention in Western culture ... We think that conventions make for meaningless art ..."

P.82 - 83:
"The chords played at the opening of this song make it seem as if time has momentarily stood still ... the sounds are prettier: warm, rich chords gently rocking back and forth between tension and resolution, like being rocked in a musical cradle."

It was always a song that could wind me down, it has that quality.
P.83:
" ... the melody climbs upward, as does the movement in the bass, a classic device for suggesting optimism in Western music ..."

Both of these have way stronger demos.

You could literally pick 5 from Invincible alone and many people would agree that they were trash.

The lost children, Privacy, Threatened, 2000 watts, Cry.

My top 5 least favourite change all the time much like my most favourite MJ songs - let's be honest for every Billie Jean there was a DS.

At the moment my least favourites are.

The toy/best of joy - garbage
Abortion papers
Behind the mask
2Bad
Was tempted to say in the back but settled on if you don't love me.

Whatā€™s your point? Billie Jean and D.S. are two completely different songs.

Your taste is utter shite.
Why are you getting all offended that I don't like monkey business?

Are we supposed to say we like every MJ song possible? He had some right stinkers alongside his classic tracks.

I don't see the problem?
