'Sonic Fantasy' Documentary by Marcos Cabotá [MERGED]

It will be out 2023 on NETFLIX probably.

Anyway I highly recommend listening to this podcast with more information regarding MJ estate cooperation difficulties and there happened something that Quincy does not want to be part of the project in the end, even if already interviews were done.

I wonder if he is just old or something 🤔 what does he have against them

business conflicts. as stated in the podcast by Marcos, it was not sth Quincy had against Marcos or Bruce, or Michael.. so it has to be a different type of conflict about money or other people around the estate or/and Sony I guess.

Thx! Looking forward to this one. Gonna try to get tickets for sure. Bruce was so important in the making of MJ's album. Important part of the team and so modest about it. He deserves the credits, for sure!

Just watched it. I liked it. Was impressed by the quality of guests that contributed. I guess I wish it was a little more technical. I guess I am confused as to how the album sounded like when it was first played and it was decided it needed to be reworked.

Very well made, I recommend watching it for a proper and deeper understanding on how Thriller came to be. It's production, the team, the deadlines, all the details are in there.

A true tribute to Bruce Swedien but also a celebration for Michael. Wish we got more for the later albums.

They didn't use any MJ music, probably due to copyrights. But there are a few nice parts like the Seth Riggs tape snippets. But photos and footage were used

Why did they have go back and re-mix the album? What did it sound like before? I was left hanging as to why the album sounded like crap. All I know is that some songs had to be shortened, but that was never even really discussed. I just know that. It was overall good, I liked it, but kind of left me hanging.

I watched The Thriller 40th documentary last year, and this one last night. What can I say, it's just day and night.
Sonic Fantasy is so captivating from beginning to end. The thriller 40th look very amateurish in comparison. Thriller 40th was made for the mass and not for the fans, hence why you have interviews with mainly people that had nothing to do with this project. Sonic Fantasy, goes very deep into the making of the Thriller album which is what we wanted to see in the first place. What also make this documentary so priceless is that it contains the last-ever interview with Bruce Swedien.
It's a shame that the Quincy ones interview was cut out, I hope one day we will see a director cut with Quincy in it. (I don’t mind about Sieddah Garrett being cut out as she was not part of the thriller album). And also cut out Brad Sundberg as he also wasn't part of Thriller,

I give it a 8/10

If the Michael Jackson music was included it could have given a 10/10. I understand that it was due to copyright. But with such a quality documentary, the MJ estates should have officialise it.

This is the best documentary I have seen. This is just about thriller and the team and nothing else.

Man this doc is good. Interviews with the people who were there telling the story of how it happened.

#MJFam Thank you very much to for your amazing words towards Sonic Fantasy. I am overwhelmed, but PLEASE, DO NOT SHARE the film or fragments of it online, as it compromises any negotiation with streaming platforms and we don’t want that. We want this movie to be seen by everyone

I really wish mjs music could've been used. Or at least in this edited version that we have. I was waiting for beat it to blast through those speakers. I bet the documentary the estate is gonna be just a bunch of talking heads,5-10 sec clips of the thriller era & celebrities talking about the influence. This was beautiful & made me wonder if Bruce & Quincy ever talked down the line in later years. I never seen them together again....(scratch that...🫰🏾30th anniversary...i think🤔) but other than that...but anyway this was done in great detail. I wish it was longer & could've gotten a chance to break down each song like the few they did. & I truly want to hear thriller before Bruce & see what it sounded like to the record executives at the time that made Michael breakdown like that. We've heard demos but never those particular tracks that they sent in before Bruce put his sonic fantasy on it.

I’m really looking forward to watching this tonight, been too drunk/hungover the last couple of days to sit down and enjoy it.

I don't have an Instagram or Twitter account, and I refuse to make one. Can someone just post the bloody password?

I did this a few hours ago and he still hasn't responded... am I supposed to follow him on Instagram for him to respond or does that not matter? At this rate I may need someone to PM the password to me; time is short.

ETA: Marcos did eventually PM me the password, but thanks to whoever DM'd me!

What did the album sound like in order for them to have to mix it all over again? I am confused as to what it sounded like. Sonic Fantasy really didn't get into it.

For starters, it was 10 tracks rather than 9. Some of those tracks also helped to push it over the vinyl limit, which made Thriller sound really tinny and not as good as it could've sounded. Tracks like "Billie Jean" and "The Lady In My Life" had to be cut, while "Hot Street" was entirely removed from the album to keep it in the safe zone.

I haven't watched Sonic Fantasy yet but Damien Shields did a great audio documentary on the album called Thriller Genesis, he dove into the process of making the album quite deeply. I learnt quite a lot of new facts about it, I'd highly recommend it

I would love to listen to it, just to understand the difference in sound.

So Hot Street was cut at the last minute? Any clue where that would've fit? Between WBSS and Baby Be Mine I'd guess?
