But it won´t have blue color right? It is only the name?
Yes, it's just a name.

You won´t believe it but only in this thread did I learn that there are in fact phenomenons called blue moon. I named myself blue moon as in "sad/melancholy moon".
Goodness me! I did not see that coming. I just assumed ...

Never a great idea to make assumptions. <smh>

I also love images where the moon is colored blue. It is my fave color.

Can't remember if the August Perseid meteor showers will be over by the time of the blue moon. 🤔

So i'll just pull out this video here which was in @zinniabooklover link there
@bluemoon7

OK, that's it. I'm moving to Sri Lanka.

"Every full Moon is a holiday in Sri Lanka. In 2023 there are two Esala Poya holidays, Adhi Esala Poya on July 3 and this full Moon, Esala Poya, both commemorating Buddha's first sermon after reaching nirvana, which started Buddhism. This sermon became the core of Buddhist teachings and includes the four noble truths. In addition, with this full Moon the Buddhist Monks start Vassa, the annual three-month retreat during the rainy season."

It´s a lovely coincidence. If it wasn´t for you and @zinniabooklover , I would have missed August 31st. It is so intriguing to me that a blue moon is alo a REAL rare moon phenomenon (there is no German translation for it. I read that some call it Blaumond, but have never heard this before) . I will watch out for other second full moons in the future

As for many people, the moon is fascinating and intriguing to me. I love to watch it, but do no tknow many facts about the moon phases. I am basically one of those people who often stare into the night sky and just love to look at the moon (and stars) :)

I have marked August 31st in my calender and hopefully I will be able to see the full blue moon. Here in the city i tis often too much lights, also the German cloudy rainy summer won´t help ...
I believe the June 2023 full moon wasn't a supermoon but it nearly was, apparently! But this photo is so lovely, I posted it in Hiker's Keep Calm thread. @bluemoon7 I never get to see the moon looking as fabulous as this. It's not just the usual cloud cover but also buildings as I live in an urban area. So the moon is well risen before I get a chance to see it.

The 'Strawberry' full moon rises in southern England, June 2023.

O i loved seeing this zin , it was fascinating babe when you posted it She looks like a sphere of indestructible iridescence

I MUST climb onto the roof or the nearby church tower
Yes. Do some research before, check out possible locations for watching. Check weather forecast, obvs! If you regularly watch the moon rising you'll know which direction to look in and the time. But, for sure, if you can get yourself into a higher position that'll be awesome. Unfortunately, I already know, bc of where I'll be at that time, I'm gonna miss it. :( Which is gutting. I'll have to make do with looking at lovely pics the next day.

Actually, that's not quite true. When I lived in London I did get to see the moon very early in its rising (or setting) phase. I often saw it when it was really big, including a couple of supermoons. :)

Awwwww" yes, yes, I know this beautiful song! OMG, see, she is singing about a sad moon, isn´t she??? 🥰 Or ... is she? lol
That question can be left open ended i think goddess lol but its pretty i know , i could post other versions but she come up first
Yeah, can't get enough of this photo. I think it's the 3rd time I've posted it, lol.
🍓🌑
ooh, I like that. Very poetic.
Just really saying what i see , which it is , want to touch it but its just impossible ! Big ball of infinite stress !

Can I touch a piece of the Moon?

[for my info - you probs know this anyway :ROFLMAO:]

The lunar touchstone

The Apollo 17 mission collected the most tonnage of lunar rocks of any mission to land on the Moon. Cernan and Schmitt returned with 110.4 kilograms (243.4 pounds) of lunar samples. There are only eight lunar rocks available to touch by the general public in the world.
* takes and gives them to BYC *
