Why would you support a terrible decision in MJ's history: AUTOTUNE!!! His voice is already perfect, why would you want to RUIN it with a machine??
 
I wonder if we'll hear any news regarding the documentary now (since Branca said it's set to come out this month).

Well, I've just checked the tiktok video and he says "this year" specifically, but I do remember reading his answer to this question somewhere else and he said September, but who knows. It's been almost a year since the original screening and also since T40 now.
 
I still hope we get to see the Thriller doc one day.

And for each day that goes by I really hope they do NOT name it Thriller 40th anniversary or anything related to that

Hopefully they will package in a full high quality Victory tour concert with it, but knowing the estate they probably will not.

Not only them, but the brothers also. Highly doubt they'd sign off on a Victory release.

This is the big thing that people overlook. The first collaborative effort between the estate and the brothers was a year or two ago with the vinyl reissue of the 1981 live album.

I truly don’t think the lack of a Victory tour release is an estate failure, it’s an inability for both parties to collaborate.

Now that's the thing. I think Sony had more to do with it than either of them, since it was part of the Jacksons' catalogue reissues.

This is not an official explanation, but my own opinion based on facts.

We all know that ALL of the footage available from the tour was shot by Patrick Kelly and his crew, which were hired by MJ himself. He paid for all of it.
Although it'd technically be a release under Sony as the group (minus Jermaine) was signed to Epic, the show itself had a load of MJs solo songs.
Therefore, a royalty dispute starts as the brothers would want an equal split as they were signed as a group, but Branca would want a higher percentage because MJ owns the footage and almost half the set consists of his songs, which would cause the brothers not to agree either.

Not only have the brothers have been controlling douchebags since the mid-80s, they’re also (presumably) still at odds with the estate over MJ’s will. I can’t imagine they’d be willing to sign off on any new Jacksons release, likely for the reasons @MJbr2 noted above.

But who knows what the state of affairs are? On the one hand, the recent Jacksons reissues had a curious lack of outtakes and demos; on the other, McClain was responsible for one of the “Can You Feel It” remixes.

You know, I think the reissues were all Sony efforts which had no input from them. Standard procedure from their "legacy artists department".

On the other matter, I see it being unlikely that any Destiny, Triumph or Victory shows will ever be released cause the brothers would only agree for it to be a Jacksons release and the Estate for it to be a Michael release.
 
Who runs the Jacksons catalogue anyway?

If it's Sony, what is the Estate's approach to it? Do they collaborate? Does Branca have to sign off on any Jacksons release?
 
Jackie is a liaison to the estate. Why hasn't he brokered a peace?

What if they gave it equal billing? Michael Jackson & The Jackson's?
 
In 2017 they hinted at a possible victory tour release on their facebook page. I know theres a ton of legal/royalty red tape on this but after seeing that HD film...they have to release it. The biggest tour at the time. MJ deserves an HD 80s concert release.

‘thriller’ had already been number one on the uk 🇬🇧 album charts earlier that year. yet it would return after september with the release of the short film, and multiple times after.

the 18 greatest hits was a motown compilation album. it had a picture of michael from ‘80/‘81 on the cover. motown had been releasing albums to detract from the epic releases ever since michael and his brothers left them in 1975. the fact that the 18 greatest hits album made it to number one, shows how popular michael was at the time, and how eager the public was to consume anything that had his name, face, or voice on.

IKR! Fabulous! I bought a copy of Classic Pop magazine (Sinead O'Connor tribute) and the chart was in there.

I hate to keep saying this because I know they won't listen or take it into consideration and I sound like a broken record but is this too hard to do?

Oct/Nov 2023- Release the Thriller documentary (no 40 title, just maybe Michael Jackson's Thriller? or Optimum Productions presents Michael Jackson's Thriller)

Nov 2023: Make a post and announce you are releasing a excerpt from the Girl Is Mine sessions in the Thriller doc. Put it on Facebook, Twitter account, the official MJ YouTube account, title it "Michael & Paul (From "Michael Jackson's Thriller).


Dec 2023: Reissue the Making of Thriller in 4k (or 1080) from the masters or high quality tape , set up pre-order links for a release in Jan 2024.


June (2024): Announce a release of the Victory Tour concert as a collaboration between the Jackson Brothers, Epic & The Estate (just in time for the 40th anniversary but don't use the 40 in the title) featuring the live (remastered) audio and Blu-Ray. Post: Michael Jackson- Human Nature (Live 1984) as the first video for the promotion. 2CD/DVD. Set up pre-order links...


July 5th: Put out a second video, Michael Jackson & The Jacksons- Off the Wall (Live 1984). Put a unreleased tour photo on the official media accounts and write a caption.


July 19th: Put out the last video until the release date, Michael Jackson & The Jacksons- This Place Hotel (Live 1984)...



October (2024)- Release the Victory Tour package......




If they really want to hold the fans over until the biopic, this is the way to do it.
 
After seeing that prince ad....smh I'm so pissed at the estate but that's what u get when lawyers are running his estate
 
I'm not really looking forward to the doc now to be honest. I'll watch it when it's released, but the idea of watching an hour and half film to see less than 10 minutes of behind the scenes footage that is of any interest doesn't excite me to be honest.

Tiny clips of exciting stuff and extended interviews of "famous people" saying how the Thriller jacket was cool or how Beat It impacted them, doesn't sound worth the wait.

If they interviewed people with insight about the process of making the record that would be completely different story
