Prince Appreciation Thread - For Fans

Enjoyed it.

I'm doing quite well with the Versace Experience. [ P2G] 7 out of 15 tracks.. maybe a little less. .
Kind of has that outré BatDance energy though he can seem to torment me with. "The composer's more outré harmonies"
It's a ...thing. :ROFLMAO:

Keep forgetting to post this.

"Stevie Wonder talks about the death of his friend Prince with CNN's Anderson Cooper" - 21 Apr 2016

7m 4s

Thank you for posting this. I hadn't seen this before
The first time I watched it I couldn't post it. Too emotional. But it needs to be here, I think. I could have done without the guy asking Stevie to play part of a Prince song. That's such an obvious misstep, imo. It's literally the day Prince died so I don't know what CNN was thinking. But I'm glad we have it and I like the length of it. Stevie had enough time to say what he wanted. A mixture of extreme pain and also joyful remembrance.

I found this one today from TV /OF4S. [1999]

There is Lonely

Is it me or did the room just get darker?
Is it me or did I just lay down and die?
Is this a dream or did the world just crumble at my very feet?
How in heaven will I ever be alright?
There is lonely, and there is lonely
And then there is how I feel right now
Perhaps only Cain when he'd slain his brother
Could ever come close 2 knowing how
There is lonely, and there is lonely
And then there is how I feel right now
Perhaps only Cain when he'd slain his brother
Could ever come close 2 knowing how
There is lonely, and there is lonely
And then there is how I feel right now.

Yes me and some of P's artistry are on first letter terms now.
I know this one! I love it! It, along with some other tracks were meant for the "I'll Do Anything" film, or at least an early version of it. He wrote 10 new tracks for it, and a handful of it is in my opinion some of the most emotional and tender work he produced, at least during that time.

Of the ones I have listened:

This one he also re-recorded during the period but didn't make the listing for the album (it says '85 but it seems like the latter version):

hi @N.I.O.47 lovely to see you again. Yeah those lyrics were pretty deep. :) Oh, i am glad that i posted one that you liked too.

oK another film ...another 'new thing'
or at least an early version of it. He wrote 10 new tracks for it, and a handful of it is in my opinion some of the most emotional and tender work he produced, at least during that time.
Right :unsure:I see. I plan to seek that out then at some point.
Of the ones I have listened:

One and especially two actually ..the titles look fab yeah ,especially two, I will give these a listen. cheers me dears~ :)(y) My latest Cd purchase was well, five now. [one is still yet to come]
I recently tried The Versace Experience. [was rather 'taken' by the name of that one , only realising that it was parts of that Gold Experience. Me being a new fan halfway through was like - well i think i know this , so it was what he did for that Fashion Show from 1995 i think . But they mixed it up and it was released in 2019 [ which i thought was rather cool ]

Then I have it's self titled , Prince ~ Tokyo Dome 1990 & it is a live CD
and then I got Prince Tokyo 1990 The Classic Japanese Broadcast, then realising i had purchased the same bloody concert.. it was from the 31st Aug 1990 but that was alright because the first CD seems it has more content. and the pictures are okay.kinda .

Then I have another called Prince Live 1991 - 1993 [ see, it is the years /that time that gets me here so i feel like i have to have it ]

Then today I purchased The Yellow CD online. I ' found ' it. and i know that's a fairly rare one. [According to discogs] dunno if it is the re- issue of the album / cd so gonna wait with maybe not so much baited breath or maybe i will be ecstatic. Maybe i will be conned by the seller~i don't know yet

Oh but I do find You need a degree in his work because the titles are so bloody complex! :ROFLMAO: You have got Unto and Into [ the 'blue' rave cd] and then you have a ton of experiences ...it's like wait a min , wait hold on mate, I can't keep up with your brain! what are you like Prince? You are giving me so much here. staaaaap lol
So far, My main staples are still Papa, [Come Album] and that Graffiti Bridge that whole album.
Pop Life , Jacobs Ladder, Controversy, for singles ~This singles list slightly changes but GB ~film and album ~holds some kind of thing for me. I Seem to still gravitate towards that the most. & Come second -Not sure if it is because of the time periods / and the art work vibe/or if it is because of actually him.
ha , I watched Violet , The Organ Grinder the other night ~ That is what i ' knew' of him and that is what i painted him as. [ not his tora tora character i enjoy that ] but him in that actual video - more of his words and what he is saying to me. But i am slowly separating his artistry from that 'MTV stigma' i had of him in my mind and what i saw on telly [ V-TOG] and what i thought was his core and that was all he was capable of,
But thanks to you OG lot showing new ones like me and pointing me towards all this 'new' deeper artistry and his showmanship [ cause he can play that guitar in my opinion ] and not just his 'mainstream' you know , mtv pants off stuff ~my opinion seems to be slowly changing of the man. So it is nice to not feel such an immediate block/ stigma about him/ his work anymore.

This one he also re-recorded during the period but didn't make the listing for the album (it says '85 but it seems like the latter version):

I know absolutely none of these and I, for one really appreciate this post. Thank You so much. I'm really trying my best on this guy promise~ haha
Have a good day :giggle::coffee:

Yesterday at the Grocery Store I saw a People magazine that said "80s appreciation Pop Quiz - Movies, Music, etc"

And on the cover, for musicians, I saw Madonna and Prince.

But no Michael.

So I was happy, for Prince, to see him.

While also still taking that as a snub, a definite snub, because, while MJ doesn't have to be on the cover every time, and maybe they didn't ignore him perhaps, it's still a pretty glaring omission to talk about The Eighties and not mention, the biggest selling artist of the 80s by far. Sure, they could've included others also, lots of people haven't been present, yadda yadda. But it's like, you gonna accept a cover of great NBA players that's lacking Michael Jordan and/or Kobe?

And the most distinctly visually iconic artist of the time as well.

Unless the Estate actively refuses to let them or something. Sure, maybe that's it.

But anyway, kudos to Prince. It's nice to see him get respect and recognition. I just didn't know where else to reference it.

This happens quite a lot in the UK.

Agreed.

It's definitely not that. MJE has no editorial control over what a magazine does or does not print. Apart from the fact that it would be bad business practice for the estate to restrict the usage of Michael's image they simply would not be allowed to dictate to the press what coverage Michael gets. As long as his image is being used legally and appropriately they would have no reason to prevent him being included in something like this. The photographers hold the copyright for the photos - unless they are official PR shots in which case it's the record company (afaik, 🤔 ) that holds the copyright.

A couple of times I've seen that Michael was included in something like this but only with a teeny tiny photo and a short paragraph. I don't expect - or even need - to see Michael being front and centre every single time. But when he is absent, or he's there but you practically need a magnifying glass to find him, I get a bit frustrated.

But anyway, kudos to Prince. It's nice to see him get respect and recognition. I just didn't know where else to reference it.
Indeed. :)
