Shot on tape.But Motown?
I get that, I only bring up ai upscaling because you cant do much with tape. At the rate ai is advancing, I think it will get better soon.If so, it’s honestly better to just not. AI upscaling isn’t there yet, so “Billie Jean” would just look wonky beside the proper improvement of “Thriller” and “Beat It.” Hopefully the films are found soon.
Exactly. The Legend Continues is my favourite doc, but its 87% talking heads like Yoko Ono, Sophia Loren, Cyndi Lauper etc. They're giving us the exact same documentaries they've given us since MJ was alive. Was "The Making of Thriller" a technical showpiece? That Number Ones bonus video? Thriller 25. It was literally just Quincy arguing with Will.
This is another thing being done seemingly to MJ's specifications, so that's just the way it's been.
the new documentary will again be marketing, that sells a product.Exactly. The Legend Continues is my favourite doc, but its 87% talking heads like Yoko Ono, Sophia Loren, Cyndi Lauper etc.
Advertisers have attempted to quantify and qualify the use of celebrities in their marketing campaigns by evaluating the awareness generated, appeal, and relevance to a brand's image and the celebrity's influence on consumer buying behavior.

Well, an expanded boxset of the Motown show was released in 2016 including more footage (rehearsals by Marvin Gaye and Stevie, for example). Universal/Motown licensed it to a third party to release. That makes me think actually, @MJbr2, can they clean up the Motown 25 tapes to make that look better or is it too worn for wear?
They won't be found, ever. Steve said in an interview the final edit was done on film and, after it was transferred to tape, the 16mm negatives were discarded. So, anything that existed on 16mm (raw takes and final edit) didn't survive.Hopefully the films are found soon.
Just look in the first post on this pageSo... any info if this is available worldwide on Paramount+ ? or just US.. and if it's worldwide..
it’s not just a subscription. the only way you can watch this is if you have paramount+ premium PLUS the showtime add on. which is unbelievably stupidSo... any info if this is available worldwide on Paramount+ ? or just US.. and if it's worldwide.. will it be only with subtitles or dubbed?
Wow, estate could really give us a little more info... the fact that you need a paid subscription already is kind of a slap in the face considering how they expected excitement from all of us for one whole year.

So where did those outtakes source from? They won't be found, ever. Steve said in an interview the final edit was done on film and, after it was transferred to tape, the 16mm negatives were discarded. So, anything that existed on 16mm (raw takes and final edit) didn't survive.
Guess it was Epic's standard at the time.why would they then shot it on film in first place?
Tape copies from the cutting room (you can see the timecodes). So where did those outtakes source from?
Well those tapes look good enough to restore. They can upscale with way better technology like spike Lee did with rock with you. Smh still cannot believe Steve threw away the 16mm...like WHY WOULD YOU FILM IT & PUT IT ON TAPE?? WHY NOT JUST SHOOT ON TAPE LIKE PREVIOUSLY (OTW ERA) Dk what made mj starting using film but thank God he did. I can imagine what the other shorts could look like but...I guess we'll never see them. Smh I have no idea why the estate can't give us 4k Michael!Tape copies from the cutting room (you can see the timecodes).
They don't.Well those tapes look good enough to restore.
From all the stories told by various people on the matter, I think the low budget was the issue. They probably approached Epic after filming to increase their budget, which didn't happen, and they were left with no choice but to eliminate steps. Hence why both the raw footage and the final edit were discarded after being transferred onto tape.Smh still cannot believe Steve threw away the 16mm...like WHY WOULD YOU FILM IT & PUT IT ON TAPE?? John do something !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! plz FEED YOUR KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thriller 40 documentary will debut on December 2 at 8 p.m. ET on Showtime and will stream on Paramount+
D:(for Paramount+ With Showtime subscribers).
Yeah, I really don't even need 4K, or even 1080p persay. Just the best quality imaginable, just any kind of enhanced detail. In all fairness, I think the Estate could try working with the 1" tape master of Billie Jean.
A while ago, Queen posted an upgrade of their A Kind of Magic music video, remastered from the original 1" master.
It's not HD quality, but it looks much better than the previous copies available on DVD releases.
People still have this idea stuck in their heads that SD quality is like DVD quality or lower. Those people really have to check a SD BluRay and see for themselves how shit and limited DVD was and still is in terms of quality.Yeah, I really don't even need 4K, or even 1080p persay. Beat It can be the start of the new era of MJ video making. Off The Wall clips and Billie Jean, iconic though they are, are relics of their times. But that doesn't change his iconic they are.
And Motown 25 again, maybe will always be SD. Still iconic though.
Yeah, I like SD Blu-Rays. It's a cool concept. If nothing else it's about a smaller file size.People still have this idea stuck in their heads that SD quality is like DVD quality or lower. This is what SD footage looks like not using the shitty MPEG2 container DVD uses:
Bear in mind both of these are also tape.
Not at all, it's actually larger lolYeah, I like SD Blu-Rays. It's a cool concept. If nothing else it's about a smaller file size.
Oh, shucks. Well lolNot at all, it's actually larger lol
In Scandinavia (and a few more European countries), all you need is Skyshowtime.it’s not just a subscription. the only way you can watch this is if you have paramount+ premium PLUS the showtime add on. which is unbelievably stupid
That ghosts “remaster” was just an enhancement of the sd tapeIf it looks as good as Ghosts in 1080p, I say why not.
