Multiple episodes investigating the forgery that went into the Cascio tracks.

I've heard episode one, and it's pretty good. Nothing new so far, and difficult to relive but worth a listen for sure.

Don't feel I can go there atm but, as @JuliaBerkowitz1 just said, "... suddenly it became very timely..."

Thanks for posting it.

It says not available (itunes, spotify, YT) and when I use a VPN I only see episode 4 on YouTube. Was it removed already?

EDIT:
Ok it works with those links...

I’m just so tired, dude. Damien brings these songs up once a week. I understand the situation, but after nearly 14 years and the successful petition to get them taken off the album… at what point are we gonna just stop talking about them and move on? I listened to the first episode, and it’s just a regurgitation of things we already know. Maybe it improves moving forward, but I dunno. This just seems like something nobody cares about anymore.

I would’ve preferred he stayed with his initial idea, a book detailing MJ’s last three years of recording sessions and the production of MICHAEL. It’s not my business or place to say how someone should use their resources, but meeting with MJ’s collaborators and friends to discuss the goddamn Cascio tracks feels like such an insane waste.
Shields claims in the first 6 months of MJs death, they only found two releasable songs.
“Blue Gangsta” and “Escape.” I believe this was mentioned in a IRS-related court document a few years ago.

We've talked about these songs for ages in our fan bubble, but outside of that most people will never have heard about it. Three fake songs making it onto an album of the biggest pop star in the world is newsworthy, and the exact type of thing that makes for an interesting deep-dive on a true crime-style podcast.

The first two episodes are a 'regurgitation' because he needs to give the background and set up the story for the general listener who has no idea what went down.

EDIT - oh bugger! Episode 10 has just gone private! :(

Sure, but you also have to give the longtime listeners something worth hearing. It’s the same criticism we all have towards official estate documentaries. Also, who is the intended audience? He isn’t promoting it on Twitter as of yet, but even if he did, anyone who follows him already knows this because he takes and writes about it constantly.

I’m halfway through episode three now (skipped episode two), and there’s nothing we aren’t already aware of. The closest we get is studio audio of Teddy recording backing vocals for “Monster,” and also some new direct quotes from collaborators. But that’s it.

Not trying to be a Debby downer here, but this just bums me out. We have so many questions and curiosities about MJ’s final years and later material, and the single best source for any of it decided to instead do this. It’s just a waste imo.

So you're saying you've only listened to 1.5 of at least 11 (that have dropped so far) episodes, episodes that set up the story for the general listener, and already write it off because there's "nothing we aren't already aware of" (which there is in episode 3, actually). Come on man, at least give it a fair chance.

Okay, so perhaps I jumped the gun.

4:21 in episode four.

He plays a snippet of “Monster.”

The authentic Invincible one.

What the ****!?

My opinion on this podcast still stands, but holy hell, that was a phenomenal surprise.
Be prepared, he also played another snippet on Ep 9 at the 41:21 timestamp and a snippet of Water at 47:03 lmfao.

I agree with your sentiment that a book on MJ's unreleased music would benefit the fan community a lot more since there isn't a media that focuses entirely on that topic, but damn if after listening to those snippets it doesn't make me happy that this is what we got instead lol.

But again, why can’t those episodes split between new information and background information? I’m finishing up episode three now and other than the snippet (which was a wonderful surprise), the information is basically exactly what all of us knew already. The process was bumpy, Teddy was hesitant to do the Cascio tracks but was compelled into it, McClain didn’t want them on the album at all, the family was against them. There are some small new bits, but no “holy SHIT” moments.

I’ll listen to the full thing, but the first episode of a podcast should hook you. I feel like it’s just a boring retread of stuff that the intended audience is already aware of.

SPOILERS
I'm only on Episode 4, but some notes that I was very surprised by;
    1. Frank DiLeo bought the songs from the Ca$cio's to the Estate
    2. They wanted Drake to feature on Breaking News
    3. Mark Romanek was flagged as a director for the Breaking News short film
    4. (Basically they were giddy with excitement about Breaking News)
    5. Teddy Riley got paid $50,000 per remix and was promised the Cirque Du Soleil soundtrack contract
    6. Michael Prince delivered Hollywood Tonight to Teddy Riley, and that's when he first heard the Cascio songs.
    7. MP was the one that rumbled the copy/paste words. Keep Your Head Up with Earth Song was the one.
    8. Neff-U's 2010 Hollywood Tonight is in episode 4. It's a very small snippet but different to what we have online.
    9. 14th October 2010 - Teddy Riley starts work on Hollywood Tonight
    10. 15th October 2010 - Sony listening party to determine the tracklist. Rough HT mix submitted and selected.
    11. Planned release in November 2010. John McClain snapped when given the tracklist, but hadn't voiced concerns prior.
    12. Mid September - Taryll and Teddy's assistant got the family involved. Taryll heard it through working with Teddy.
    13. John McClain worked on a song with Burt Bacharach that was unselected. 'All I Need'. Cascio track
    14. Teddy stopped working on Keep Your Head Up, but did finish Burn Tonight.
    15. Luanda (sp?) was Teddy's assistant or manager. Teddy demanded publishing on Hollywood Tonight. Wanted 10%.
    16. They told Luanda MJ personally asked for 50 Cent on Monster and he'd heard the song.

Thanks for this.

I think you're just incorrect about what the intended audience is. This is not meant to be like an MJCast episode where Damien shares what he's found out in front of an audience of diehard MJ fanatics. It's a standalone podcast intended for both the general public and us fans. Of course that means we'll hear things we already know. For me that's not a problem - even the things we already know in broad strokes are filled in with details we've never heard before (e.g. that the Estate was so excited about Breaking News that they wanted Drake to feature on it and create a video for it 😑 LOL). If that's uninteresting to you then that's fair of course, but I don't think the fact that he talks about things we already know is a valid criticism of the podcast.

Can anybody share the timestamp of Neff-U’s “Hollywood Tonight” mix?

Can someone upload the new snippets seperately?

Is the Hollywood Tonight snippet played on Ep 3 at 19:44 also part of that scrapped mix? It sounds new to me but I'm not too sure since the only versions of HT that I listen to is the demo and the other mix Neff-U made, so I'm not well-acquainted with the other versions.

What’s crazy about all of this is that they all knew. They all knew it wasn’t him, but they still went forward with the songs.
Episode 4 nicely demonstrates that the listening session was a farce to begin with. Weitzman said during it that they'd release the songs anyway, because the contract with the Cascio's (that he didn't like but Branca had arranged) stated their songs would have to be released. Unbelievable.

I’m at ep 4 now. Truly unbelievable.

Yes it is, seems to be a completely different mix, which I would love to hear. I’m assuming it has the unreleased guitar, being from 2008.
