2000 Watts unpitched vocal

I just learned the "Ho-oh-oh" adlib from Monster was taken from the 2000 Watts session (which proves it was pitched/formant shifted)

That ad-lib may be actually taken from On The Line.

Whilst 2000 Watts very much could be artificially pitched down, and it probably is, you do realise that vocals can also be pitched up. So the same vocal take, at a different pitch, being used in Monster is not proof that 2000 Watts was pitched down.

It wouldn't be pitched down like that in the multitrack/session. Try pitching up the 2000 watts vocal & you'll see it isn't 1:1 with monster due to the formant shifting

yeah they also used vocals from Unbreakable, Heartbreaker, Invincible & You Rock My World (+ Scream, Earth Song, Jam, Rock With You)
In “Another Day” they recycled adlibs from “We’ve Had Enough” and “Get Your Weight Off Me”.

Not how it works.
Like it was mentioned above, you can't just pitch up a vocal that was already pitched down previously and expect it to sound the same.
Pitching/formant shifting severely distorts the audio, essentially destroying it.
No way to undo that.

You're also saying this as if 2000 watts being formant shifted was a bad thing, it is not, there's nothing to defend here, it was just an stylistic choice for the song.

I'm talking direct samples on the Malachi-sung tracks, those are more of MJ interpolating another song. He did sample an adlib though in Xscape from Unbreakable

So you are more willing to believe that 2000 watts was pitched, instead of that the tinkering of the vocal happend on the cascios „copy and paste - pushing the buttons“ job?
Respect.

Dude, the song is clearly pitched down. George Mayers, recording and mixing engineer implies it in this video:

Even without him speaking about it, you can hear the artifacts of the formant pitching - irreversible damage

Based on what I heard about Michael's live vocals, I am of the opinion that he could have sang as low as on 2000 Watts even without any technical aids. Maybe he has that too.

It is not just Michael Jackson's live vocals where he sings certain parts with a low voice.

It is also during his phone pranks where he spoke with a low voice (as confirmed by Teddy Riley).

Michael Jackson's 'This Is It' 2009 press conference is another example where he spoke with a low voice.

In the case of '2000 Watts', several people who worked on the 'Invincible' album (such as, Stuart Brawley, Teddy Riley) confirmed that Michael Jackson did sing that low on that song.

The only effect that was used on him for '2000 Watts' (in terms of vocals) was a Yamaha symphonic preset.

pitching down and format pitch aren't the same things...

Yeah…. Teddy’s word holds about as much weight as a paperclip in a hurricane these days. Dude constantly lies, he tried to pass off a piss poor MJ impersonator doing a cover of Joy by blackstreet as the actual Michael demo. He obviously lied his ass off on Oprah about the Cascio tracks. I don’t trust Stuart either. F*** them both. Zero credibility and I’m sure Michael could sing that low, we’ve heard him hit some crazy notes on the Seth Riggs tape but that being said 2000 Watts is definitely pitched down.

You could call his producer Teddy Liely, that's true, but I won't believe it until I see a video of the recording sessions.
Michael loved to uppitch songs, but downpitch?

The only reason I up voted his comment was cause he wasn't dogging on Michael for once. Lol

if you think michael wasnt pitched down in 2000 watts, you have no place to be discussing how michael's music was made.
There are some on here that seem to think the discussion of sped/pitched up/down vocals somehow discredits the music and therefore they deny it ever even happened. There’s a thread here somewhere where the topic of the entire Triumph album being sped up is flat out denied by some (the usual suspects who will not be named)

I'm not musically minded technically speaking, but I've always believed Mike's voice was manipulated to get the effect on the vocals we get on 2000 Watts.

He may have sung in a lower register, but what we hear doesn't sound natural to me, especially the "AOW' around 3.26

Now I'll tell you a little secret. The power of the 2000 watts made Michael sing like that. That's part of the concept of this song.

Bass note, treble, stereo control, how low you go

It's safe to say that 2000 Watts at least had a formant pitch effect on it. But i doubt that it was pitched down more than 1 or 2 semitones.
The "monster" sample (if it's from 2000 watts) has to be additionally pitched up because there is a big key difference between the songs.

btw, am i the only one who always thought that 2000 Watts sounds like Michael always had his hand covering his mouth while singing (probably an artifact of the formant pitch). I love that it sounds like that.

That’s exactly what I always thought! I really like the song tho.
