Latest on MJJC

"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

If the movie still plans to be released in October this year, we should see some big clues coming out of the CinemaCon event. I imagine they will be talking about the MJ movie during this event, and will likely release new footage. April seems like a month (6 months before release) that a teaser, poster or something will be made public.

IF the movie is getting delayed, you will likely hear something around this time as well officially. So the next 30 days are going to be big. We have had a drought of no information the last while. That will end, for good or bad.

That's why I suddenly perked up when I saw that CCon ad. The Lionsgate presentation is on April 1st, six months before the release date (unless that changes). My expectations are low-key and calm but it does seem like if no new info comes out at that time that would be really weird, imo.

The new episode of the MJCast podcast details the production issues the movie has been having. Basically, Lionsgate got spooked when the Cascios threatened to accuse MJ of abuse late last year.

Lionsgate are concerned that new allegations will hurt the success of the film. This, according to the MJCast, is why many of the scenes involving the Chandler case are being reshot and the movie rewritten. This (again, according to them) is the real reaspn the movie has been delayed until October. They are also doubtful the movie will come out this year at all.

Do they actually have any new info or are they just speculating based on previous reports?

This is based off the reports we got a couple months ago, however Lionsgate denied any further delay to the release date of the biopic. Also this episode could have been filmed around the time the reports came before there was confirmation of it still being released in October. The recent Cascio allegations have nothing to do with the already existing allegations in the movie, I highly doubt they would rewrite everything and refilm again just because of alleged posthumous allegations. Lionsgate is betting on this movie more than anything they will release it this year so to any fans worried about that don't be.

Unfortunately this isn't just speculation 'based off reports'. They have contacts who know the actual behind the scenes goings on of the film. Also, this episode was filmed very recently (not around the same time the reports came out).

I'm not gonna lie until we get a confirmation by Lionsgate I don't think we should really act as if it has been 100% delayed especially after the media reports Lionsgate said there was no delay and they are close to finishing production

That makes zero sense. If Lionsgate were concerned about new allegations coming out, the logical reaction would be to reshoot the movie to add even more undeniable proof that he was innocent, not reshoot it to remove the scenes that prove he was innocent and therefore be accused of making a movie glorifying a pedophile. Literally, the only way this movie can be accepted is if it convinces people he was innocent, making it okay to make a positive movie about him.

According to the MJCast podcast, they have "sources" for this information from the inside. That's all they will say. It seems October 3rd is the best possible outcome but a delay is more than likely. It seems if you believe this then that Puck article with Matthew Beloni was correct form January.

Like I said, we will get an idea over the next 3 weeks regarding what is happening. Keep a close eye on CinemaCon April 1st... and if you don't hear anything about MJ, you can take it to the bank the movie is being delayed. My gut feeling is that we will get an answer one way or another around this time.

The allegations were Evan Chandler's warts, not Michael's. Enjoying spending time with children is not a flaw, it's a weakness that makes you vulnerable to evil people, but not a "flaw".

Like any sex scandal involving two people alone in a private bedroom, I'm not sure what undeniable proof anyone could have for guilt or innocence.

In American society, you are presumed innocent until proven guilty and Michael was found not guilty the only time charges were brought, so he should be presented as not guilty. I'm just not sure what undeniable proof of innocence they could add.

I would say Jordan Chandler claiming that Michael was circumcised when he actually was not is pretty good proof that he never saw it or touched it. Also the Evan Chandler recorded tapes are basically Evan explaining the whole scheme, those tapes would sound terrible in front of a jury.

That's certainly compelling evidence and weighing everything, I choose to presume Michael was not guilty. I'm just not sure we could ever have "undeniable proof" of guilt or innocence in any sex scandal involving two people alone in a bedroom. All anyone can do is draw their best conclusions based on available evidence.

It's part of what makes a false accusation of this nature so unfair. Producing undeniable proof was impossible for Michael to do.

Very curious to see how the film handles it and holding out hope that we get to see the film this year. Haven't been this excited for a movie in a long time.

Why on earth didn't the estate tackle any allegations head on and completely exonerate Michael publicly, before they pressed ahead with a biopic?

The estates thinking is even if they publicly try prove MJ is innocent it still will have negative consequences to their/Michaels image since they will get accused of 'covering up an abuser' or publicly acknowledging Michael's allegations makes it seem 'real' to people
I think Graham King was the one who wanted to actually make the movie back in like 2019, and the estate agreed
The biopic despite its controversial timing is a huge benefit to the estate and Michaels legacy imo
I don't think Branca was expecting back in 2019 that LN2 would happen or the alleged Cascio backstab or somehow W&Js case being set to trial in 2026
Even with the issues this would happen regardless even after the trial in 2026, lets just hope that this movie does Michael justice whilst also being a fun movie to watch
 
I agree. I think it's safe to assume there are definitely problems with the film, otherwise I'm sure we would of seen/heard something by now (other than the picture of Jaafar which was released over a year ago). It's just too eerily quiet for something not to be up IMO.

If there is no teaser/trailer or at least an update around April 1st I think we can safely say the film will not be being released this year.

wasn`t the article about doing reshoots because of legal problems handling the Chandler-allegations/settlement in the biopic?

Lowkey feel like that was just BS, it was denied by the team, the estate despite its faults would not allow that to happen, and also Lionsgate/Graham King would definitely check if there were legal issues regarding the Chandler case before investing 150 million in this film
I personally believe the reason we got the initial delay was due to Lionsgate finding out about the whole Estate and Cascio deal, so I presume since the delay announcement and now in march they have actually all been rewriting, I do think the march reshoots are true. MJCast are quite reliable but I think fans got a bit too carried away regarding their recent episode, "I wouldn't be surprised if the October release date is delayed but there hasn't been any announcement" is what Charles Thomson stated (Paraphrased) but some people took that as 100% confirmation that Lionsgate has delayed the film again or that the production is absolutely doomed, no they knew this last year that's why it was initially delayed.
