"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

From that Mirror article posted by Fuz:
“Michael recorded a variety of unfinished ideas and short licks which have remained in the archives. They were either not developed or just left over from sessions to be reviewed another day. Lots of those digitized files have been reviewed and examined by the estate. And the ones, which best represent the magic of Michael, have been looked at by producers to create new tunes.

Slightly nervous as to the exact meaning of 'new tunes'. It doesn't have to be bad but ... well, I'm just nervous, that's all.

It seems to be a similar approach as with the Elvis soundtrack.
The album also features variations on Presley material by big name artists in a variety of genres and styles. It consists of a mix of genres, including pop, rock and roll, jazz, R&B and hip hop.

"Frankesteining" tracks doesn't seem like a bad idea depending as to what extent it's being done—if we take "Dream Away" as an example which is a song with vocals that are almost complete but with a missing ending, and they borrow a bit of another song that has vocals that fits melodically and lyrically enough to fill in that specific gap then it seems ideal. It's also a good way to utilize those unfinished scraps rather than to leave them in the vault indefinitely. If it's done that way I'd absolutely be onboard with it.

I don't like this idea. I think, they should either make new remixes or just leave original songs, like they are.

worst case scenario: they'll re-imagine vault tracks - not only sonically but also lyrically. HT says hello.
HT feels okay. Lyrically they just cutted out "she is only fifteen", well, because this is a little bit inappropriate I think

That also sound like the material from from Michael Prince‘s hard drive.. Choruses + maybe one verse.. Though that would be later than Dangerous..

I'd also prefer if they released the songs as is but the Estate wants the songs to be eligible for an Oscar nomination, so they need to be presented in the best way possible. There can't be any mumbling or missing gaps or anything that gives away that the track is unfinished, an artist's unfinished demo isn't something that interests the general audience. Usually that's a thing that only the fans appreciate.

If they do it just for one or two parts then I think that's fine, really.

If they are going to use MJ music to create new one, I hope they will use Just Good Friends as the main preset! This is the best song from Bad album, actually this is the best song Michael have ever recorded! 100 times better than Billie Jean. Stevie Wonder did a great job on this track! Such an underrated song, really
Troll alert right here folks

They could pick up from the vault something finished and use this for Oscar nomination. I surely remember at least all Will.i.am songs are completely finished

I think a single verse, and a hook would be viable as a "single". People put traditional standards on an MJ song; two verses, a bridge, ad-libs. I don't see why not just something less than 2 minutes. This still won't work with something like Water, which is literally 30 seconds of music. But it could basically be a cool interlude.

I could see them using Dream Away.

Also yeah, "new tunes" kinda makes me think they're gonna be combining stuff or something.
Ever since I heard the Estate acquired the rights for the song from Porcaro in July last year (NY Times / MJVibe), I can't not imagine it playing during the opening credits, and maybe double as a promotional song specifically for the film. The music and melody is almost hauntingly beautiful, and the personal touches in the lyrics ("We could sail away our dreams to our Never Neverland", "wish upon a star", "and sharing truth and tales of youth", etc.) would be perfect for the biopic.

I at least hope the song finds a good release platform; it was one of the first unreleased songs in a while that re-jolted the feeling of how much was lost with his death.

As far as I know, a song has to be specifically written for a movie to be eligible for an Oscar.
Afaik this is the official wording from the Academy Awards rules:

"An original song consists of words and music, both of which are original and written specifically for the motion picture. There must be a clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition (not necessarily visually presented) of both lyric and melody, used in the body of the motion picture or as the first music cue in the end credits."

So Jaafar or someone else would have to write the song.

They changed the lyrics of the bridge, which completely changed the meaning of the song. That song was about underaged girls being taken advantage of by older Hollywood men who make them do sexual things with false promises of fame and glory that never come true. And Michael wrote that it was based on a true story.

Michael's lyrics were trying to warn young girls about what would happen if they went to Hollywood:
She doesn’t even have a ticket
She doesn’t even have a way back home
She’s lost and she’s alone
There’s no place for her to go
She is young and she is cold
Just like her father told her so
She's too young to understand
She a streetwalker at her age
She's young and she's afraid
She sells her body to get paid
It's too much for a girl her age
Police is stalking her today
They now know she ran away

She is running cause she's scarred

But they changed the lyrics for this instead, now suddenly the girl did make it big in Hollywood and her problem is just paparazzi, totally different story:
She gave up her life to follow her dreams
Left behind everything for the movie scene
Nothing more she could want, she was determined to follow her plan
She wanted Hollywood, she wanted it bad
Now that she got her dream, she became a star
It all looked so good, but only good from afar
Imprisoned in every paparazzi's camera, every guy wished they could

Now it's back to reality for Ms. Hollywood

Young lady, who was forced by older Hollywood men to do sexual things can't become a Hollywood star with paparazzi problems? Man, this is ridiculous

In Michael's version, no, she could not become a Hollywood star with paparazzi problems. Of all the thousands of young girls who go to Hollywood dreaming of fame, very few will achieve it and most will end up badly. That was the problem Michael was trying to bring awareness to in this specific song, it wasn't about people who make it big in Hollywood, it was about those who don't.

Stop entertaining this, despicable person please. They are literally evading a community ban with alternate accounts.

Oh, this sent me spinning off into a fantasy world, lol. I dreamt up a version of the biopic with an original song from Buz Kohan. Thing is, Buz is 91, afaik. I don't know if he is still composing or if he's retired from showbiz. So I did another fantasy version with a song from Brad Buxer. Or Bill Bottrell. Or someone! :ROFLMAO: Someone that Michael worked with in his adult solo career.

This is just wishful thinking, btw. I have no idea if they would bring in someone new at this late stage.

I love this idea, especially for something previously unreleased although it works with anything. In the Robbie Williams biopic, leading into one (non-musical) scene they used the bass line from one of his songs. It worked really well. I don't know if they'd do that with Michael's biopic or if they are expecting DJ Khaled to compose original music for all of the 'linking' bits (that's assuming DJK is still involved in the project, I have no idea).
