I first became a fan in 2007. I remember when "Hold My Hand" leaked in July 2008. Maybe the most memorable leak ever. It was good to hear that MJ could still sing well, but there wasn't much of him on the song.
I didn't care much for "A Place with No Name" or "Another Day" when they first leaked, but that's because they were only snippets. It was nice hearing the full version of "A Place with No Name" in 2013. I hope the original version of "Another Day" gets leaked in full someday.
It was nice hearing the full version of "Blue Gangsta" in 2010. I also recall hearing the unauthorized remix titled "No Friend of Mine" back in 2008.
I remember when "Slave to the Rhythm" and "Do You Know Where Your Children Are" leaked in 2010. I was impressed with how modern the former sounded, but it was obviously a remix made years later. Tricky Stewart produced it, right? It sounded generic. I prefer the 2010 mix of "Do You Know Where Your Children Are" over Timbaland's 2014 remix, but I don't care for the song in general. I heard "Xscape" around 2010, too; didn't care too much for that one at the time, but it definitely should have been on Invincible. Hopefully, the original version will come out in high quality someday (honestly, I wish it was put on the Ultimate Collection).
I remember liking "Serious Effect" when I first listened to it in 2008, but I don't care for any of the songs MJ worked on with Bryan Loren. Nor do I care much for the Thriller outtakes, as much as I liked "Hot Street" when I first heard it.
"I Am a Loser" and "Days in Gloucestershire" are my favorite leaked songs, especially the latter; I remember how excited I was to hear them in 2014. it's really fascinating to hear what music MJ was making after Invincible. Shame so few songs have complete vocals, though. I wish I could be excited to hear the full versions of "Water" and "Adore You", but they're just "mumbling + chorus" demos.
Finally hearing "Can't Get Your Weight Off Me" in 2023 (or was it 2024?) after so many snippets over the years was fun, but the song itself is nothing special. "Chicago 1945" was cool; I wanted to hear that one for years and it definitely sounds like one of the better unreleased songs. I can see why it was never released on any of the studio albums; song wouldn't have really fit on any of them. I guess it should have been on the Ultimate Collection.
It was also quite cool to hear the original 1999 version of "Hollywood Tonight" back in 2014. I think it's interesting how technically a snippet of the song first leaked back in 2002, but nobody knew what to call it. I much prefer it to the 2010 mix.
Really hope we hear the will.i.am tracks someday. And "Ekam Satyam (The One Truth)"; it was supposedly gonna be a single in 1999, so I'm curious what it sounds like.
