The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

Many Bad era songs (some of them made it on to the album) date back to 1983.
I beg to differ as it would have mostly been across a two-year period. It can’t all date to 1983. Michael, John, Matt and Bill were writing and developing tracks between mid-1985 and early 1987. Bit of a bold assumption to make that the bulk of Bad was written in 1983. Anything could have been written in those two years as well and the best songs were chosen. Regardless when they were from, no bias to one particular year.

The only proven tracks from 1983 are Liberian Girl and Dirty Diana. APOM may have had ideas from then. But the recording done for Captain EO was most likely from early 1985. Given the drum machine on that did not officially come out until December 1984.

APOM could have been recorded earlier but most sources point to early ‘85. So that’s an estimate. As discussed on another thread.

The problem is the lack of official sources regarding correct recording dates - the books tend to copy what the releases state (Ultimate Collection/Bad 25 etc), but these are often incorrect.

I once tried to edit the Wikipedia entry for Dirty Diana following the MJcast interview with Matt Forger, who said it was written and first worked on in 1984. When I edited the date from 1986 to 1984, I was told that the interview wasn’t sufficient enough evidence.

So what we are left with, for example, is Cheater or Abortion Papers having their official recording dates as 1987 rather than 1983/4.
I experienced the same thing when I tried to edit Stranger in Moscow with a Brad Buxer co-writing credit, citing his MJCast interview. They removed that saying only Michael’s officially credited.

But bear in mind that’s a whole other debate since Brad’s story has changed a bit on about how that came to be. And whether Michael was involved in the Sonic game

I mean there is footage of him coming up with ideas. Not sure if he recorded that day but it's definitely 85

I wish Akon, RedOne and Will.I.AM would at least confirm every single title they worked on together. Its crazy weve still never heard a snippet of anything from these sessions. I know akon didnt finish anything else but i know theres small things
Yeah when Akon said they started other stuff it made me curious. We're probably never gonna hear unfortunately.

when akon mentioned the other titles he said they were just rough unfinished ideas, probably nothing crazy, maybe even just instrumentals.
im thinking mj and akon really just focused on hold my hand in following months and left the other stuff behind (besides wbss 2008 ofc)

Most of MJ's remaining material is rough unfinished ideas and instrumentals.

Nobody knows what’s left and we probably never will. For some reason it’s a secret for whatever reason. Shit is stupid and it’s a waste to even try to figure it out.

Brother you have no idea how many things we've learned the last two years in terms of what's remaining in the vault. Trust me , it's not a dead end. If people have on their hands copies of songs like "Light The Way" , believe me we can learn about anything.

I know I have no idea what is left none of us do. When I see people say there isn’t much or it’s just instrumentals and such that is crazy. Or I’ve seen there is only twenty something songs left that can be released. That’s bs there is tons of music somewhere. The dude worked on music for years and years and only released so many albums brother! 😉

Michael barely recorded anything in his final 10 years. And most of the previous outtakes are already put. I believe that there might be 2-3 unknown tracks with vocals and that's it.

You believe being the key there. I believe you may be wrong. Like I said we really don’t know. What if Latoya has the hard drive loaded with tracks? Like mom says ifs and buts lol. Just messing King.

tons of people have been saying there's inaccuracies but I ain't hearing any real examples for me to improve on.
Agreed. I feel like there’s some info and songs missing (which is why I wanted to help add the info in) but for the majority of it, it isn’t innacurate

Yeah, I always got the impression that he was so consumed with the trial that he never once checked what they were doing and signed off on it just to get Sony off his back for good. There’s no way he’d approve of that track listing otherwise. Boneheaded movie for sure, but still.
His contract with Sony was fulfilled with the release of Number Ones.

The TUC project was initiated by MJ/his team, and it's aimed towards the fans as some kind of "thank you".

Not sure how true this is. MJ mentioned during a fan event in/around 2003 that he still owed a greatest hits set and a box set with a few new songs, at which point he’d be free.

However the project was initiated, though, it’s clear that MJ wasn’t involved with the song selection process and didn’t take care to give the final track listing a proper overview.

This we don't know for sure. Michael could have been under heavy medication and therfore having a clouded judgment during that period.

I remember when the box set was first announced, its tracklist lacked WHE. I dunno whose call it was to add the song thereafter.
