"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

Having watched the teaser a billion times on my phone , I switched it up and watched it on my big tv - it looks so much better on the big screen.

The only issue I have is the size of Jaafar’s nose , it’s too big and wide, clearly a prosthetic but not a good one! They should have just went with his natural one and reduced it with CGI . It’s actually quite off putting

It looks energetic (which I figured it would be) but again Jaafar doesn’t look much like Michael (especially with that elephant nose appliance) and what the hell is up with the obvious AI Michael Voice and bad lip syncing at the end? People are actually believing this shit is Jafaar

Genuinely thrilled to see the trailer!

However!!

I’m really worried that based on the footage we have so far, this is merely doing to glorify Michael’s rise to fame, and cement him in the category of being an 80’s legacy star. He is soooo much more than that. His artistry and persona was more more magnetic in the 90’s. Not forgetting that 90’s Michael is quintessentially HIM!

Presuming that nothing beyond the 90’s is included (in this or a ditched part 2), it severely undermines Michael story and artistic accomplishments. If there is no hint of a part 2 in the run up to the release then this is nothing more than a cash grab and will do far more discredit to Michael than not releasing it all. It will reek of erasing history and failing to project some truth!

Anyone else having issues reposting the trailer link to your reels or stories on instagram? Also when I send the link on imessage it’s not working but everything else works fine that I send. Is this a sign that this teaser is literally breaking the internet? Or is it just my computer/phone?

Have you heard Jaafar speak and sing? It's uncanny, and I'm talking about live interviews and performances. I don't think it's AI in that trailer.

I definitely want to see the 90s-00s covered, but the general consensus always seemed to be that Michael defined the 80s - the decade where he objectively peaked. 90s MJ was no doubt epic in its own right, but I really don't think they eclipsed the 80s - or came even close!

If the film only covers the 80s, then the absence of the accusations won't have much of an impact. If the film is successful, which seems likely, then a sequel will follow. I would end it with the victory in court. Nobody needs the damn Chandlers for that.

Here's what I wrote, in response to Grace Randolph's review of the teaser...

Words don't exist to describe the immense love, empathy, and grief I've had in my life toward Michael Jackson, and everything in his own life. My uncle first gave me a cassette tape of MJ's music in 1988, and to this day I have all his albums on CD from "Off the Wall" to "Invincible". There is no denying he was the absolute best at his craft, pouring his soul into every song and performance. But while that success gave him a worldwide fanbase, it also made him almost as many enemies...especially in the American tabloid press. Their insane jealousy still has no limit - 16 years after his passing, they continue to tear him down. I think a big reason is because he wasn't content to simply represent his own ethnicity - he wanted to embrace all people, and bring them together. Bruce Lee had a similar goal with martial arts, and look at how he was treated. It's a sad fact of the human race - most of us do not like substantial change, especially when it's unexpected or challenges our prejudices.

For the record, I personally believe it is virtually impossible that Michael ever molested anyone; the claims made by multiple accusers and their parents vary too widely, regarding time and place. Tom Mesereau actually brought Wade Robson as his first defense witness, which was one step in an eventual not guilty verdict 14 times over. Robson's story only changed many years later, after he was denied a role as a dancer in a tribute concert for Michael. There's also the Cascio family, who knew Michael ever since the Thriller era and most of them remained close to him (though brothers Frank & Eddie had a personal split of their own at one point). Macaulay Culkin and Chris Tucker have remained two of Michael's loudest defenders since his passing, and Aphrodite Jones wrote a wonderful book about the trial called "Michael Jackson Conspiracy" - I think any seeker of truth regarding MJ should read it.

God willing, I will be seeing this movie opening night in a packed theater - I don't care if I have to pay for a long cab ride each way to make it happen (Uber's been quiet on helping me out). I just want all involved to tell the truth about who he was, not sugarcoating or demonizing him in any way.

Good god, don’t remind me.

Have you watched some of the newer biopics like Rocket man and the Bob Dylan one? If so, what are your thoughts and opinions?
I really enjoyed Rocket Man because it was not your average biopic - and Elton had the tunes to back up the tone it went for. I haven't seen the Dylan one, I really tend to avoid them but I just haven't had the chance too watch that or the Bruce one yet. I really have to be in the mood.

Walk The Line was great, and I loved Control (Ian Curtis). The Bob Marley one was chronic.
