Dangerous Short Films are currently being upscaled to 4K on YouTube!

to me, it looks like the videos were filmed with a newer camera than the originals ones from the 90's. so maybe that's what they were going for.?
Im just here for Michael lol

I don't get people here saying that people won't watch something if it is not in 4K when DVD is still the largest selling home video format. Way more things are released on DVD than Blu-ray or 4K. People rent DVDs from Redbox in front of stores. Most of what Walmart has in their stores is DVD. The local public libraries have 95% DVDs and recently a few Blu-rays but no 4K discs at all. The average person doesn't care about video quality, just like they don't buy audiophile stereo equipment. Some people even buy those bootleg DVDs of newly released movies (theatrical) that people sell on the street & flea markets that they filmed in theaters or downloaded. They can't care too much about video quality if they buy those. A lot of TV channels are not even in HD and people watch them. The public at large never adopted Blu-ray/4K. They either stuck with DVD or went straight to streaming (or pirating).

As far as AI goes, some current professional music acts have released completely AI music videos or have AI album artwork including Duran Duran (the band).

Most new TVs are 4K nowdays and people stream movies and watch Youtube on them in 4K.

That AI album artwork and video thing sounds really bad. Let actual artists do the artwork.

People have no choice but to buy that if they're getting a new TV. But Walmart sells DVD only players for around $25 US, which is cheaper than the other formats. Some people don't even know the difference, they think all of the discs are DVD. Like they'll buy a Blu-ray that doesn't work on their DVD player and they return it to the store. Also, if a TV channel broadcasts in SD, the TV doesn't matter. Some older people still have their tube TV with a converter box hooked up to it. A lot of people don't throw stuff away if it still works. I have relatives that still have VCRs that work and they use them. Some local thrift stores & used book stores sell videotapes too. There are a lot of things on VHS that never made it to DVD and are not on streaming, unless somebody uploaded their copy on Youtube. Ot the later DVD/blu-ray was edited in some way and the videotape has the original version.

Again most of the videos (no matter what it is) on Youtube are not 4K. especially the earlier uploaded ones. Most of Princes (official) videos were uploaded as 480 or 360, and that was after he passed, since Prince didn't allow his stuff on Youtube. That also has nothing to do with the popularity of DVDs.

I don't really get what your point is. Yes the difference between watching something in 4k and watching the same file downscaled to 1080p is not that big. Resolution alone doesn't matter that much.
Yeah. That's really all it is. "The difference you're seeing is not down to the resolution".

just cause you watch videos on your phone doesn‘t mean it shouldn‘t be done, and I was talking about my TV as well as my monitor.
For sure. I was just doing that because YouTube links were embedded here on this website.

When I watch movies at home I use a 4K laser projector with a screen size above 80 inches. I'm fully aware of the limitations of each situation.

You wanna tell me there‘s no improvement between a Retina 2010 and modern technologies?
Barely. And most of the difference is not down to the number of pixels. Mostly you're being hoodwinked by clever trickery. Because Apple wants you to buy a new phone.

You can see a heavy difference, but ig some people also can’t hear the difference between an mp3 and a lossless PCM.
Yeah, that's different. I love my MoFi SACDs, and sound quality is the reason I never stream anything.

Wembley was a 2nd or 3rd gen VHS, which is around 480i, not 120, the video looks worse due to degradation of the video and tape,
Incorrect. A brand new VHS tape has approx 220 lines, nowhere near 400. A worn one goes downhill. And as you say, this particular tape was damaged due to poor storage. Then create a copy of a copy, and 100-150 lines probably isn't far off.

I already wrote, doesn't have to be 4K, but better contrast, sharpness, etc., not some AI-watercolor-everything smooth and blurry nonsense
That's what I was getting at. People seem obsessed with everything being in 4K. That doesn't matter. What matters is that it looks good, and that's down to the mastering decisions, not so much the number of pixels.

equals $$ for our beloved Estate
Meh. I couldn't care less about Tiktok, or about whether Branca makes money or not. They could shut the "estate" down and it wouldn't impact my life one bit.

it's just the right thing you do with important pieces of art. You try to preserve them in the best way possible for future generations
That's why I was saying it would be MUCH more important to record director's commentary for each video while the director is still alive, instead of arguing about resolution s and AI settings. That's the urgent priority. John Landis will die at one point, and it will be too late afterwards to wish you had an audio commentary for Thriller and Black Or White.

Jam (Upscaled) is now available on YouTube.
This one upscale is way better than the one we got for In The Closet, it was more satisfying to watch, still not a real restore but hey.

I noticed they used a different version of Jam, it has an unique intro and the video is 10 seconds longer. It is not the vision intro, and I have no clue where the one on YT is coming from, if someone knows, please tell me!

After a quick look, is it not the one from the Dangerous - The Short Films video?

That's because it's mostly old people who buy DVDs and they don't necessarily care for blu-rays.
The physical media demographic isn't that representative of the market as a whole since most people use streaming services nowadays.

The intro featured in the upscale is the same one from Dangerous: The Short Films; however, they didn’t use that exact version, as there are minor details missing from the version mentioned above. They probably used a master tape with higher quality.

This "remaster" looks a lot more subtle than In The Closet - it's not the worst thing I've seen but it's also not really that noticeable imo.

the video itself is the same from what I know, there's an additionally hoo at 2:18 which is not present in the previously released version
The Dangerous videos are a curious case. That's the third song with a "surprise" alternate cut released - the version of Gone Too Soon on Visionary was a puzzler.

If they do Heal The World after Who Is It, I wonder if they'll use a tape with the 1 min intro or not... Let's wait and see

Besides Gone Too Soon having 2 different videos (Vision (YT) vs Dangerous' Short Films)
I think WYBT also has an alternative version too on vision

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it goes
- Dangerous' SF: Free Willy footage + concert footage
- Vision: Concert footage + MTV Anniversary

Yes, I had forgotten that. Youre right.

Jam it's the same version of Short Films from 1993 in VHS and dvd, i don't see any diference, that hoo from 2:18 it's the same as in the original version, it's always been there.

I haven't checked Dangerous: The Short Films, only Visionary, Vision and the previous upload on YouTube

That's settled then, thanks. Forgot to watch this last night!
