Michael Jackson - Number Ones | Pre-Order Now!

Bad, HIStory, Blood On The Dance Floor and Invincible will get SACD/Vinyl reissues by MoFi soon. Bad will be a One-Step, the rest will be released on standard vinyl
Where is the info from? That's for sure

I’m probably not picking this one up...
Key sentence which I'm fairly certain applies to the great majority of people here.
I am sorry, but this product is clearly not for me, so I won't celebrate it.
Reissuing this album is a good idea on paper until you realize the estate is definitely going to release a soundtrack for the biopic too. Then this release just becomes utterly pointless.

Good for the people that wanted a copy of this and didn't own "Twelves" already I guess.

Kinda off topic but very much looking forward to the future mofi stuff
I'm looking forward to Bad especially, I think the original masters already sound perfect, so I'm really curious about what they're going to do!
The fact that Bad is part-digital also means we'll get some funny spectrograms for the SACD. (Massive blank space above 20kHz lmao)

$59,99 for Blood and Invincible, $119,99 for HIStory and $125 for Bad

a mint HIStory and Blood costs around 450, Invincible 250

Right, because who wouldn’t want to pay $60 for Blood and $119 for HIStory?

These are standard albums — they should be sold at standard prices. Most people don’t even own a setup that can properly use MoFi-quality vinyl.

Well, I would pay it for BOTDF, because I don't have it yet and to find an affordable one in good condition is quite a task. Supply and demand... of course they could do another pressing of the standard vinyl, that's for sure. HIStory is a different topic because there won't be new pressings that are uncensored.

well it‘s actually noise in the ultrasonics due to the 1-bit pulse density modulation capture using noise shaping

I’m willing to bet that the movie soundtrack will be similar to the Bohemian Rhapsody one, meaning the songs will be “remixed” and/or taken from live recordings. Plus the track selection won’t be the same as on Number Ones.

I just don’t see how this is seen as a bad thing. It’s fine to not be in the target audience, but Number Ones is one of MJ’s most popular projects outright and it’s objectively a good thing to press it on vinyl. Man, I wish it wasn’t so pessimistic around here sometimes.

Yeah but there is a problem…
Just had a phone call with Branca..
He said quote: „the soundtrack will not included any live mixes because MJ actually never really did a tour… So we have to use Cascio tracks… they are totally real and mj fans have no clue what they talk about“.

🤷🏼‍♂️

… what? Lmao what does this even mean

I know I go to bat for the estate more than I realistically should, but this truly seems like excessive negativity for the sake of acknowledging that they generally suck.

I agree!
I have a record player at home, and every now and then, someone gets me a greatest hits record of an artist I am not a huge fan of. I really enjoy that. I am not that much into Elvis Presley, for example, but someone got me a vinyl record with famous tunes ... and I enjoyed listening to that. I think greatest hits collections are specifically meant for non-fans. So I think it's positive news that Number Ones is available on vinyl. There simply should be a greatest hits collection available of vinyl!

no thanks, i don't want another lazy 'project' by this awful estate.

i take the Azura mixes any day.

do you ever say anything remotely positive
The positive information being that Number ones has been available since 2003 on CD and DVD, which both sound better than vinyl.

The negative being that (1) fans already have all these songs, and (2) non-fans aren't going to buy vinyl, as it's too expensive and too inconvenient.

The DVD actually sounds a lot worse than the Vinyl will due to the audio source being the original u-matic video tapes of the short films, which were never meant to be high-fidelity music sources, while the CD and Vinyl are mastered from the original song master tapes. Vinyl even sounds subjectively more pleasing to the human ear than perfect digital music due to the analog chain, gentle saturation, and different mastering choices present on Vinyl compared to the „perfect consitancy“ and stuff like quanitization noise on digital.

Vinyl is actually more popular in the mainstream than CDs are and buying Number Ones on Vinyl would be the very first move on buying a physical music product as a non-fan to get into the music. Therefore, The Estate and Sony actually have done a good job on that.

Mind you the soundtrack will contain remixes, which sound very different from the originals, can‘t wait for the Kirk Franklin Remix of Man In The Mirror, it sounds magical. And yea a new posthumous album was also in the words as of June of this year according to private trustworthy sources, so also very looking forward to that as well.

Can you elaborate on the new posthumous album???

What you consider 'inconvenient', is actually part of the fun for most owners of a record player. The focus when putting the needle on the record, the tactility of turning the record ... that's what people like. It makes you more aware of the music, and more of a participant. Playing a record is a special moment. The dust and scratches that make every record unique. The simple fact that a record wears out a bit, every time you play it ... that makes it mean something. May be it's not for you, and may be I am too poetic about it, but I think there are a lot of people enjoying it in the same way.

non-fans will definitely buy this shit. my friend just bought a frank sinatra collection on vinyl - we’re on the younger side. there’s an infinite of younger people getting into infinite amounts of new hobbies every day, and some of them like to grab greatest hits instead of og albums sometimes. the release of number ones in 2025 on vinyl is a fantastic thing. idrc if it sounds amazing because if people cared they can find better for not too much. i bought original copies of off the wall and bad off ebay in excellent condition and neither broke the bank

other than that as of June it was scheduled to release in 2026 and features songs from the Thriller, Bad and Dangerous sessions, no as that info is not public yet and I don‘t want to be the one who gets it out there

If that is in fact true, then it makes sense why the estate bought the rights to Chicago 1945, dream away. I would like Eaten Alive, Joy & Hot Street to be featured on it.

Well said.

People that don't get it just tend to knock it though.
