I don't know has a thread like this been made before. but this has been a topic that has been in fan community for years next to Justin Bieber.

I don't think it a doubt that Bruno got his some of inspiration from Michael.

he almost sound like him and sort of look like him too.

so why not?

Bruno's musical foundation is Michael and Prince as far as I can tell.

He's not my favorite artist, but he makes some amazing music and is a great showman.

Bruno is an extremely talented artist. He is one of the very few modern artists that I like. I'm pretty sure if Michael was still alive, he would love to work with Bruno.

Bruno is great. Great artist, great showmanship, great songs, amazing live. What is there not to like about him?

Bruno's new tune is straight up early Jackson 5! It also has backing vocals in the chorus that are very similar to "We Can Change The World".

I liked Bruno very much when he started, I went to a concert back then and gifted him a drawing (wonder if he kept it) šŸ˜…. BUT I gotta say, most of his songs now are just about sex and drugs and what a cool pimp he is, so... that's pretty annoying. Still agree that he is a great artist and has some enjoyable songs though šŸ’

Can't say I liked 24k Magic, but Die With A Smile and this tune are good. I'll always love Unorthodox Jukebox though.

Drugs?

Mainly alcohol, but that's a drug, too, also cannabis - if it was only this I wouldn't care, it's more the picture he is painting with sooo many songs: He's the biggest pimp, having hundreds of girls, throwing parties, gambling, yadda, yadda, it's in so many songs and I find it annoying. And a little sad, because he is really talented and could do so much better. But that's just my taste.

Quite like Bruno but his solo songs are all starting to sound the same. Retro 70’s funk type of vibe.

I prefer his older stuff , especially from his first album with an MJ vibe

I see. Production-wise, I think he found himself inside the retro/vintage/throwback aesthetic and I quite like it. It might be wearing out now after the whole industry exacerbated the formula during the pandemic, but it's a vibe. It's just a matter of "feeling good", in his own way. At least it's much better than the generic pop the current most mainstream US artists have been doing.

I like his style, don't get me wrong. I just think it's sad that almost all songs have the same, flat "I am so cool" - topic when I listen to songs like this one:

...because this is just amazing. Would have been a perfect song for Michael, too imo.

Swoon-shine, more like. I love this song.

But again: is he singing about alcohol? Or a relationship? Who knows šŸ˜…. At least it's not a "cool pimp" - song.

Some artists seem to stick to certain topics for some reason. Bruno really has outdone the "Uptown Funk" formula, but 24K Magic wasn't just that. Calling All My Lovelies and Too Good to Say Goodbye are great ballads, for example.

But yeah, it is really subjective.

I just respect Bruno for being authentic and about the craft in a time where pop is more commercial and fabricated than ever.

The whole thing with Bruno is that this braggadocious attitude in his last albums and singles is just a persona, really a character. It's a very common thing. Bowie had multiple personas, for instance. He should try something new, yeah, but this is more of a character, tongue-in-cheek, than his actual personality. We can all remember the actual Bruno from the early days, very shy and corny (for the lack of a better word). I love Doo-Wops, but it's hella bubblegum behind all the excellent production.

I didn’t like Bruno when he started..
When he dropped 24K I was obsessed with it. Had tickets for the tour but show was canceled.

Yeah the songs may be about sex mostly but the music is so much better than what he did in like 2011…

I wouldn't say better, but the throwback stuff is a nod to soul, funk, R&B, so it feels nice. Doo-Wop and Unorthodox are a product of their times and, therefore, dated. They scream early 2010s (not saying it's a bad thing, I love both albums and early 2010s pop myself) for their overall sound and production.

I don't think Bruno would fit the recent trend nor would be able to create the next one. So, in his head he must think: "Why should I change something that has been working since 2014?"

(That apt song he features is so void, for example.)

Love Moonshine and yes , I’ve imagined MJ singing it too ā˜ŗļø

agreed... im 2010 i already didn't like new music.. that's why i didn't like bruno back then.

But i think bruno definitely can still set a new trend. I mean he did with 24K...
Didn't he even won like 7 grammys in one night for it? It was close to MJ level :D

Bruno copied Morris Day. Morris was doing that in the 1980s. Uptown Funk even sounds like a Time style song mixed with Oops Upside Your Head from The Gap Band. On a related note, every member of The Time (except Morris) worked with Janet Jackson.

Not only Morris Day, but yeah, his recent output is a nod to all the 70s and 80s soul, funk and R&B artists who influenced him.

Chunky sounds A LOT like Baby Be Mine and Perm is a clear tribute to James Brown.

I was talking more about Bruno's image & lyrics. Morris' entire thing is bragging and being cool with Jerome holding up the mirror so Morris can look at himself. šŸ˜„ Morris has a ballad called Gigolos Get Lonely Too. That's even in some of the Silk Sonic lyrics although their sound is more 1970s.

Oh, yeah. I get it now. True that. Morris combing his hair randomly always cracks me up.

Speaking of the 24K Magic album

Don’t you just love this track?

Another song I have pictured MJ singing.

I like 24k Magic, but I prefer his first two records. I'm really looking forward to hearing the new album, too.

Anyone else seen him live? I saw Bruno Mars in concert in 2014 and he puts on one incredible show. The dancing he does with his band on stage reminds me so much of the Jackson 5. He's the only modern pop artist who is making songs like Michael did in the 70's and 80's.

I doubt I'd travel to the UK to see him, but his Superbowl performance is up there with this best as far as I'm concerned. Great performer.
