"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

I need to find where my closest IMAX is. I've never seen a film in IMAX and it feels like this is a good one to start with!
Eh?! IMAX is simply a very big screen - perfectly suited to fast-paced action movies or epic landscapes.

Think Batman jumping out of a skyscraper window, or a frantic car chase, or people climbing mount Everest.

Watching 2 guys having a conversation in a tiny recording studio would just be silly. When the faces are that big it just seems unnatural, and following a conversation can make some people dizzy.

???😭
You can watch it on my 3ds if you prefer then. I will be there watching it in imax, with loud speakers blasting his music.

That's true to be fair mate but it does seem odd we've seen a teaser, a trailer and now a TV spot and they only Bad era stuff we've seen in any detail is Bad live at Wembley 88.

If the short films for, The Way You Make Me Feel or Smooth Criminal were in the film I'm sure they'd have shown us by now.

I might completely wrong though, I'm excited to see what happens
I will die and go to heaven if they add "the way you make me feel

There even was Dangerous Tour footage taking place in 1992 in the First Look. Sure, it could‘ve been cut in the movie. My wishful ending is ending it with Man In The Mirror on the Bad Tour and transitioning to 35mm footage with the mirror shot

Like, I've been watching IMAX movies since the 1990s, I must have seen well over 100 of them. And some movies just work a lot better than others, with some simply being a waste of time. Sometimes it's because the quality of the source material is lacking, and sometimes it's just because the setting of the movie doesn't fit. And more than one of my friends have decided they don't want to watch in IMAX again, based on their bad experience trying to look backwards and forwards between two people talking.

If this movie is using a lot of AI, that's gonna look quite bad if you blow it up. And clearly a lot of this movie is set in mundane places like an office or a small family home.

I can understand wanting to have a good time watching this on a decent screen, but this type of movie simply does not warrant a screen that's 18 metres high. It's a scam. But if you want to spend twice as much on a ticket then that's up to you.

Don't care, didn't ask.

Looking forward to Michael being my first IMAX movie. (y)

Yep... that's the WHOLE movie. Just two guys in a tiny recording studio.....Forget about the concerts & performances in a Michael Jackson movie. 🙄

Don't you normally see more of the picture in IMAX? Many Marvel movies offer IMAX versions on Disney Plus and the black bars on top and bottom disappear on certain scenes.

My local Odeon in the UK has an Isense? Basically similar to IMAX so I’ll be booking that.

I want my showing to be packed. So whatever prime time showing is on the Friday or Saturday night I’ll be there.

Watching the movie at say 11.30am on my own is no fun, I want to see the reaction of others and feel the energy.

Ill go to the "Maxx" screening on the 24th at our place (it's not an IMAX screen, they market it like it is the dopes).

I'm very interested to see what opening night will be like in Ireland, considering he's consistently been in the top 30 for I don't know how long with Number Ones.

I just learned that:
***
Antoine Fuqua is the nephew of Harvey Fuqua, who was involved in the beginnings of Motown and Marvin Gaye's early career, and was married to a sister of Berry Gordy.
***
Now he's doing a film with Jafaar Jackson, the nephew of Michael Jackson, who startet out at Motown, and whose brother was married to a daughter of Berry Gordy.
***
🤪

I would really want them to cover the Jacksons and their leaving of Motown. I learned the above from a documentary on Gaye, where the emancipation from that label was a central point to show his artistic independence.

I'm only saying this to help manage expectations a bit based on what's been shown in the teaser and trailer. There is a lot of talk about the timeline within the movie - So I'll say the movie shows a great lead up to some things mentioned in this thread but expect to have to wait for some of the things that many are anticipating.

I have read somewhere on this forum that most scenes for the 2nd part will have been filmed already. If that is true, I find it fascinating we haven't received one single photo of Jafaar post Bad. They must have had really tight security for keeping everything so secret. There was a lot of visual content in the 90's, many videos have been made that surely cannot be left out in the 2nd part, but not one single picture from the filming.

The first official photo released of this movie was Man in the Mirror Dangerous Tour.

I find that very hard to be true. As I mentioned before, the vast majority of the cast involved in Michael will not be required for any sequel, as they were no longer a part of MJ's inner (or even outer circle).

We know that the Neverland raid and at least one performance from '92/'93 has been shot and that a look for '91-'93 was spotted on the makeup artists poster on the behind the scenes clip. Also, if they had to do extensive reshoots almost a year after principal photography has finished, its highly unlikely that any script for a potential sequel would be unaffected by this.

Its possible, but a bit doubtful since we havent seen anything post early 90ies.
I think at most it will cover the story up tp history, 2005 trial and everything after if any will be a short montage of real footage imo.

Watching the trailer again, I wonder what they are going to do to make this much different from American Dream, in a narrative sense. Are they going to focus more on Off The Wall and Thriller eras?

I'm still a bit surprised if I'm honest that Michael breaking away from his family, mainly his father, seems to be the hook for the film. I didn't expect that to be such a focus

They filmed prior to it being thought of as a 2 part film, so naturally there is footage - but there is a lot of work ahead.

Well, it's a biopic. It's not a concert movie. It's probably gonna be scenes with like MJ and Quincy talking to each other about whether they should change the key up a semitone, or whether to add more trumpets. Then some scenes where they sign a contract. All of these types of scenes are not optimal for IMAX cameras or projectors, and can appear blurry.

How many full song performances do you think there will be? 2? 3?

I really really don't think people understand what a biopic is or what they're about to watch.

Don't you normally see more of the picture in IMAX?
Not usually. IMAX is not usually the main format for a film- directors are well aware they might get shown in a minority of cities that have an IMAX, and even if they do it's gonna last for about 2 weeks. In contrast, people will spend 50 years watching the movie on TV.

They can crop horizontally or vertically, so you might get less of the picture in IMAX. The point of it isn't to see more picture.

Don't get me wrong - I'm a long-time IMAX advocate - to the point where I've said "if I don't see this movie in IMAX, there's no point seeing it at all".

But Michael isn't Jurassic Park.

Many Marvel movies offer IMAX versions on Disney Plus and the black bars on top and bottom disappear on certain scenes.
Oh, Disney Plus. No, that's not imax.

Don't get your hopes up too high. "Prime time showing" in the UK these days is "blink and you miss it". In any random town, it's typical for every showing of every movie at every time of day to have about 6-8 people in there. And that's in no way an exaggeration. Basically the cinemas hope that once a year they will get a blockbuster that pays enough money to keep them open for the other 51 weeks of the year.

There isn't going to be a second part until they officially announce a second part.

Maybe they're just trying to play the victim card. It's probably easier to sell that way.

I'm really glad they're using pictures of Jaafar performing Bad on some of the posters, because he looks most like Mike there and it's great work for them to showcase
