What were the planned singles to Invincible?

According to Damien Shields, Dr. Freeze threatened to sue MJ for taking unwarranted credit on “Break of Dawn,” so they included it on Number Ones to provide additional royalties.

What’s the logic behind picking singles with multiple tracks versus just one? I mean, YRMW came out as a one-track single, but Cry had three. Is there a rule for this, or is it totally random

Heaven can wait has become more popular now then back in the day. I see people covering it on tiktok
 
I’ve only just realized - what was the point of pulling Shout from the album if they ended up releasing it anyway as a B-side for the Cry single, which was released to support people after 9/11? They removed Shout because of 9/11, only to put it on the Cry single, which came out because of 9/11. Is this some kind of joke?
 
Could it be that Unbreakable was cancelled as a single release after the Twin Towers collapsed? How likely do you think that is?

Was shout replaced by YAML because of 9/11 at all?

Other than the final tracklist's been published after 9/11 do you have any solid source for this?

Isn't it obvious? 9/11 happens and Michael suddenly goes to record YAML... Probably to replace Shout? Isn't there a clear cause-and-effect relationship here?

I’m convinced the reason the Unbreakable single never saw the light of day is that Mottola didn't want to make it as ambitious as Michael was asking for.

Money wasn't the issue. They could have found 10 million. But I'm 100% sure Mottola would have released it only in Europe again (meaning another limited release like YRMW and Cry), and most likely, the cover would have been Michael's eye once again...

I think Mike just wanted to pour everything into promoting Unbreakable, but Mottola was dead set against it.

He preferred YAML because it was dedicated to the kids.

The reason "Shout" was pulled was because one of the co-writers complained about the publishing rights to the song.

He didn't, but "Shout" interpolates the 2000 Guy song "Do It"; Guy was a group Teddy was in. Teddy also speaks on the intro.

iirc, the complaining co-writer was Roy Hamilton.
