The Official 'Michael' Bio-Pic Thread

Puck podcast with the Lionsgate head discussing the film + the wins + the reshoots

Lionsgate CEO said he was concerned how it was going to be a satisfying single movie covering the whole of MJs life

There were so many moments of "connective tissue" they just couldn't get to in one film

They weren't annoyed (apparently) because they just saw it as turning it into an even bigger opportunity

The original film did have the 1993 Superbowl

„The Estate fucked up“

Way too many eras to fit into a single movie. That's why it felt rushed when I watched it
Yes, it should have been a trilogy planned from the start. 3 x movies of 3 hours. But I bet they were afraid it would not make enough money so they played it safe. The 1st part in this case ended up being a bit too rushed when it did not need to be because of the circumstances. Not ideal, but it is what it is!

This thread is such a downer. Feels like I'm on reddit. I don't care if some of you didn't like it. Many of you are missing the bigger picture. Michael is still breaking records and being celebrated by many. Do you think this is an easy feat given his reputation and attempts to cancel or even erase him from history by the mainstream media?

The general public doesn't care that every little detail wasn't in this film. Many don't know his story the way we do so they aren't going to nitpick.

Do I think some things about the movie could have been better? Sure but we also know that the narrative of the movie had to be changed due to legal issues.

With the way critics were trashing, it could have been a huge flop and laughing stock. It seems like some of you would have preferred that.

Shout out to the entire cast especially Jafaar btw. I honestly believe he is the only one that could have pulled this off. Had this role gone to someone less skillfull, it would have been a total disaster. He totally carried.

I walked out the theater (I've seen it twice) feeling joyful and missing Michael. This is the closest some like myself will ever get to seeing MJ in concert. When will we ever have a chance to celebrate MJ like this again on such a worldwide scale?! Probably never again (unless there is a part 2 perhaps).

Many of you are taking this all for granted.

We're all entitled to different opinions and for me, I'm not going to praise a movie just because Michaels name is attached. If I didn't like it, I didn't like it. Everyone doesn't have to like everything and that's okay. If someone loved it, I'm happy for them, if they didn't, it's fine.

Loook at some of these auditions for the biopic

Y'all really need to appreciate Jafaar and what he did. These auditions I've been seeing are laughable honestly.

That wasn't my point. You don't have to praise it. I never said it's a flawless movie at all but I do think some of you need to manage your expectations and look at the bigger picture instead of the constant trashing that's been going on. This is a 2 hour biopic. Not a miniseries.

People can like or dislike what they want but there's so much focus only on the negative here. It's tiring.

LOL okay.

Unfortunately this. A 3 part would be better imo, but it would drag for casuals....

Heck, I'd love 4 parts... oh, well. What's done is done re: part 1.
I think his life is better told in a documentary series by friends, family and those who worked with him. It drags for a movie to try and act out all his major stepping stones. 2.5-3 hour episodes separated by eras

It's currently sitting with a MJJC Forum 6.2 / 10 average. Not bad, not amazing. People are going to talk about it's faults, of which there are many. The overall general feedback on this thread is positive.

Look, I'm not saying that the film can't be critiqued but I just don't understand why so many of you are echoing what the critics are saying about it not delving deep enough.

We know that the entire third act had to be scrapped. This is not something minor. This is a huge deal. The entire narrative of the film was changed and watered down due to legal issues. It's obvious from some of the photos that have been released that they did try to tell more of MJ's story. Legally, they couldn't so what should they have done at that point? Just scrap the entire film? Let's be realistic. They were too far along and had spent too much money to do that at that point.

Let's hope a directors cut is released and/or there is a part two where they flesh out the story more.

It wasnt that deep though, was it? Its doing very well but I don't see any point in making the film out to be The Godfather Part II when its not. Ive seen a lot of reviews that were quite fair (that didnt focus on what wasnt filmed) but the critics weren't wrong about everything.

New here guys and gals so, be gentle.

I’m so gutted not to be going to see this, as I was so looking forward to it, for so long.

Does anyone want to go again - for me - so I don’t feel like I haven’t supported a film that puts MJ back at the top, where he belongs? 💪

I don’t often message but I have been on this page constantly over the last couple of weeks. I’m amazed by how well it is bring received.

In the UK, Michael’s music is flying in the charts again and the news is constantly full of stories. What’s interesting is that those stories are both positive and negative but all conclude one thing, the movie is a hit. More than that, the comments under each article are overwhelmingly positive.

I was deflated when the reviews came out and when I realised the movie would only focus on the first part of his career. Like many I wanted a movie that tackled the allegations, served as a rebuttal of the nonsense leaving Neverland and reshaped the narrative in the public eye. I reasoned that a movie like that would change public perception. I thought this movie would do nothing to help that,

I was wrong,

What seems to be happening is Michael is everywhere and by being everywhere the general public is being bludgeoned by one single thing, the enormity of his talent and the fact that he will never disappear.

For those that know the truth, we can take solace in that. For others, they don’t care one way or the other. Innocent or guilty they just don’t care, they just want to watch the genius and enjoy the songs. I can live with that. Because the negativity is being drowned out.

There will always be those that try to take him down, or scream loudly that he should be cancelled. But the majority, the moderates, they aren’t taking any notice.

Planned or not, this approach is doing a lot of good.

I just wanted to articulate that because it is something I have struggled with, the idea of what I think can fix all that has happened. I now realise that this is the best way, play him big, play him loud. Celebrate.

I don't need much convincing to go again. :ROFLMAO:

I’m here to bring positive energy. I’m, unfortunately, far from being young but, life experience has taught me the following;

Concentrate on the positives in everything you can, and your life will be (mainly) filled with positive energy. It works for me.

And, I believe, the opposite is also true.

The MASSIVE film success, the MASSIVE Albums and Singles success which is following all across the WORLD does not benefit me financially, or cure my pains BUT;

It brings me personal joy and positive mental energy that, ONCE AGAIN, an innocent man, a GREAT Man, is proving the critics, haters, etc., WRONG. Thanks to the intelligence and love of his millions and millions of fans. The BEST fans 💪👏
