So I asume the leaked version is from 1987-1989. Because the 1986 version is just scratch vocals and the one leaked has some complete verses and bridge without mumbling.
 
Does anybody have a collection of all the sheets with dates that Bill has posted? The ones that mention the dates and what was worked on that day?

Yeah. I'm beginning to think that the chorus was the only really complete part, and the verses may have been incomplete or scat or something.

Would be cool if he has that date he did the mix for "State of Shock" too (the demo /w Freddie), the very mix that drew Michael to Bill's work and started their working relationship.

The demo was kept as the backing track on the final cut (all vocals replaced), so probably before Bruce Swedien worked on it.

Unfortunately, according to a comment from the uploader JacksonUnreleased, the end of the track was edited by long time Michael Jackson collector Korgnex (why does Korgnex always have to edit stuff :rolleyes:).

Also Dynamite being there, I wonder if it was considered for "Victory" oriignally.

The Jacksons Victory and the Dynamite album were both being recorded simultaneously at Can-Am and Soundcastle with the same team of engineers. The same is true for Janet's song Don't Stand Another Chance from Dream Street. All of the Jackson brothers (except Randy) sang background vocals on the track. I think DSAC was actually John Barnes' first collaboration with the Jackson family. I also wondered if some of the songs on Dynamite were considered for Victory, and vice versa. But then again, Jermaine's involvement in the Victory album didn't occur until late during the process. In fact, Torture is his only contribution to Victory, and that song was originally meant to be a duet with Michael and Jackie. Jermaine didn't record his vocals until at least March 1984 (according to a newspaper or magazine clipping). By that time, he was practically finished with the Dynamite album, so I think it's pretty unlikely that Dynamite had any Victory outtakes.

On a side note, Jermaine also produced a song called All We Have is Love that was supposed to be a duet with Janet. Record label interference caused it to be scrapped, and it was given to Howard Johnson (without his knowledge). The song almost ended up on Dream Street, as Janet mentioned in a magazine interview. I'd love to hear the version with Janet. I wonder if Bill has a mix of the song with Janet and Jermaine's vocals, and if he has the session dates for DSAC.

The leaked version can count as the scratch vocal 1986 version. I wouldn't call those verses complete but placeholder mumbles and lines until he got around to writing full lyrics. The bridge might be the most complete part lyrically but I wouldn't guarantee those would've been final
 
Looking through some clips, John confirmed You're The One by Jennifer Holliday is a Victory outtake as he said whatever doesn't make the album will be given to other artists

I always thought it was an early Bad session recording. But heck, many of the Victory outtakes were reworked during the BAD sessions, so I don't know if it makes much of a difference. Can you share the clips you looked through?

Ok, thanks for the correction. Probably some overdubbed ad-libs done towards the end of the sessions.

Something interesting I also noticed it that in photos from the sessions for Don't Stand Another Chance, Jermaine can be seen in the studio. However, the album credits don't list his name. I wonder if his vocals were removed for some reason (maybe the record label interference). Or maybe it's just a credits error. Or perhaps those photos are from another song that's in the vaults (maybe All We Have is Love)!

I really like the connection between Dynamite, Victory, and Dream Street, and I hope that Bill Bottrell shares more information from those recording sessions. I've been studying the Jackson family's recording sessions for a couple of years now and jotting down information on their session in docs and spreadsheets. I have some timelines/calendars of their sessions that I'm working on.

I'm particularly proud of the Janet calendar because I haven't seen as much publicly available information on her recording session dates. I'm thinking about posting it, but I'm not sure if there's a big Janet forum or thread that I could post it in.
