Controversial MJ Documentary Leaving Neverland [GENERAL DISCUSSION THREAD]

I really think it is time we in United States pass laws to protect the dead. I think if there is going to be a rebuttal, Taj, Estate, etc need to educated the public on this issue. I see why these liars/media did what they did but I hope this change.
 
HBO lawyers claim that the commitment not to disparage is under the Confidential Information section and that when read in context they only undertook not to use information they havd acquired prior or during their business with him in 1992 to disparage him. If this is indeed true, then the estate has no leg to stand on. They also have a very strong argument on why this needs to be heard in court before an arbitration can take place which is good for us because otherwise we will not have access to arguments.
 
i still dont understand why the two book drafts from wade havent leaked yet. he went shopping with them, hoping to find a publisher. so he must have sent the book drafts to some people at least. where are these books?
 
I have just read it. It is indeed in the Confidentiality Section but that particular paragraph about disparaging MJ is very general and does not really refer to 'Confidential Information'.
 
I think HBO should be concerned. They did breach the contract and all their hope is now on the court making the decision that that particular paragraph is not for perpetuity.

Looks like Variety gave the Estate the last word, coming from Estate Attorney, Bryan Freedman. I never heard that name before, but I like what Mr. Freedman had to say. It made me smile!!

I'll tell you one thing, this is NOT the type of publicity HBO needs nor wants. HBO brass wants everybody to stop talking about LN and focus on Game Of Thrones. They thought that everybody would just watch their mockumentary, mute Michael and move on. NOT!!!

Now they have to deal with this lawsuit, and hope none of their secrets and/or backdoor arrangements become exposed.

It would be so damn sad if the estate loses because HBO has fulfilled that contract. They should have sued the shit out of Dan Reed and the two fake victims, but neither of them probably broke any laws with that "documentary", correct? That's what's wrong with the law in the USA. Defamation is all allowed, they can go right ahead.
 
The estate needs to work on something else. The odds are against them. Where is their rebuttal?

I very much doubt there is one. They are too busy working on this musical that the target audience isn't actually going to go and see.

They probably couldn't sue RR&S for anything unless there happened to be some footage in there that they could claim ownership of. I think that one lawyer (Mark Geragos?) could since they took that one video of him out of context in LN. There's also that real estate company that owns the drone footage of the ranch that was used in the movie.

I do wonder about that home movie footage of PPB that was used. Could anything be done about that?
 
I’m a fan of Bryan Freedman, I don’t know what their chances are in winning but the Estate wants to play dirty on the publicity front, I like that Freedman is vilifying HBO and casting doubt about what HBO’s agenda was this whole time. this. Planting this seed (which is true) about HBO’s campaign to destroy MJ - in the ears of on-the-fencers, that is a win. This will be a marathon win, not a sprint.
 
Justin Bieber just posted somewhat about MJ on Instagram.. in a good light! He says MJ+2Pac= Chris Brown. I know you might think negatively of Chris Brown or even JB... but at least there's big stars defending Michael

Yep, this is real good. He reached a lot of people with the I'm not racist video and he made another video based on a school kid that got shot many times, miraculously survived it. The video is intense. Anyway, I'm glad this guy used common sense and included MJ in his latest video.

Of course some idiots on other sites condemn Joyner for this, yet they are OK about Joyner asking for rapper XXXTentacion to be returned to us. While we can't prove the things XXX is accused of, if the things are true the dude was the devil in person. Yet with MJ, whom has been fully exonerated, only times a bit of research to see how he is the actual victim... and these people go "wtf Joyner." sigh.

So apparently Quincy and Oprah spoke to each other via Twitter, exchanged some nice words, and Oprah apparently presented him during his Quincy 85 celebration? I just read that on Facebook. Obviously he's fully aware of the shit she pulled, wow.

And wasn't Q going to tribute MJ as well sometime this year, or already happened?

Then again, he has proven to be a backstabber as well with him claiming MJ was a thief and what not.

The Jackson Estate wants an arbitration open to the public for all to see. If HBO thinks the contract does not apply or is expired then why are they opposing adjudicating it? The reason why is because they know they were complicit in this one-sided farce of a money grab that clearly violates the agreement.”

Freedman adds, “HBO does not want this fought in any courtroom because it will expose the falsity and intentional deceptiveness of the documentary. HBO’s reaction to this lawsuit is to delay the inevitable while continuing to misinform the public.”

He continues, “Unfortunately for HBO, neither courts nor arbitrators will allow a one-sided intentionally misleading fiction like the bogus documentary they were complicit in creating. This will be adjudicated hearing both sides of the story which will clearly show HBO’s intentional conscious disregard for the truth and expose how far HBO will go to violate the rights of artists in the pursuit of greed.”

Freedman concluded by saying, “Make no mistake, HBO will be held responsible for its reprehensible conduct.”
