It's funny how the downward spiral of Kew Media has followed a similar timing to their launch, publicity and broadcasting of LN, just one year later. Fans are currently sharing video of MJ laughing on Twitter. I'm sure he must be laughing somewhere now... :billiejean:

Kew Media’s Lenders Call In Debts, Pushing TV Group Closer To The Edge

Kew Media Group’s lenders have called in the Canadian TV producer-distributor’s debts, pushing the company closer to the brink of collapse after it was delisted from the Toronto Stock Exchange last month.

In a statement issued to Kew Media Group’s investors on Friday, the company said Truist Bank has “demanded repayment of all amounts owing under the senior credit facilities,” adding that the bank intends to enforce its security under Canada’s Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. The company’s net debt stood $117M, according to its most recent earnings.

“Following a 10-day notice period, Kew’s senior lenders may take steps to enforce on their security,” the statement added. It is the latest chapter in a disastrous downward spiral for the company after it defaulted on its credit facility last year because it filed “inaccurate” financial information.

Kew Media Group’s subsidiary, the once-thriving British sales house Kew Media Distribution, is also staring down the barrel of a winding-up order, with a court hearing set for next week. Producers including, Leaving Neverland indie Amos Pictures, are fighting to claw back the royalties they are owed from the international sales of their shows.

Other Kew Media Group subsidiaries have also been fleeing the sinking ship. The latest was Frantic Films today after CEO Jamie Brown bought back the company, which makes HGTV’s Backyard Builds. Others who have left the group include UK producer Two Rivers Media, while Dance Moms executive producer Jeff Collins left Kew-backed Collins Avenue Entertainment in January.

This is the only time I like seeing Leaving Neverland name popping up to show what trouble/problems these schemers have got themselves in. MJ is with God and God will protect him. You fooled some men but you can not fool GOD and GOD can make you pay for lies because he know who is the liars. MJ rising while haters are falling.

Some folks need to stop trying to compare MJ's case to R Kelly. some people compare because they are ignorant or just dumb to know the difference; in fact, MJ's case is not like Kobe's case. MJ innocence was proven more than Kobe's (And I believe Kobe was innocent. I believe that was a "booty call" with a groupie and she got mad that it did not go no where serious. Kobe did slept with her, MJ did nothing like that with anyone). So, from this day forward, if anyone want to praise and celebrate Kobe and not cancel him even after death, then they CAN NOT bother Michael who even had people admitting to lying and so forth and innocence was proven far more than Kobe's.

The famed TV mogul took a tumble onstage at her 2020 Vision: Your Life in Focus Tour show at the Forum in the Los Angeles area on Saturday, while speaking about, ironically, the concept of maintaining balance in life.

"Here's my definition of what wellness means to me. This is my definition, not yours, just an idea, because you're gonna be defining it for yourself. Wellness to me means all things in balance and balance doesn't mean all things are equal or at peace at all time-" Winfrey said, before losing her balance, falling and landing on her side before sitting and getting up.

Kew placed in receivership; all directors resign

Kew Media Group has been placed in receivership and all its directors have resigned from the company.

Kew said Friday that in accordance with an order from the Ontario Superior Court, FTI Consulting Canada has been appointed as the receiver of all its assets, undertakings and properties.

FTI Consulting Canada will be tasked with managing Kew’s affairs and selling all of its assets in a bid to pay its creditors.

With the appointment of the receiver, all Kew’s directors resigned, including Peter Sussman (founder and chairman) and Steven Silver (founder and CEO). The company’s other directors are David Fleck, Maish Kagan, Patrice Merrin, Stephen Pincus, John Schmidt and Mark Segal.

Earlier today, Kew said its senior lender Truist Bank had demanded repayment of all amounts owing under its senior credit facility, and given Kew a notice of its intention to enforce security under section 244 of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act.

As well, Kew said its U.K.-based subsidiaries (listed as Kew Media International Limited, Kew Media Group UK Limited and Kew Media Group UK Holdings Limited) have been placed into administration in England and Wales.

The company noted that its production companies, which include a number of Canadian businesses, are not subject to the receivership or the U.K. administration.

Interesting (Very long) article about Oprah. They STILL get MJ facts wrong though... Just short extracts here:

Oprah's No Good, Very Bad Few Months
After decades of raising questions about our national baggage, Oprah has recently become the center of controversy herself.

I don't know if there's a meme that has so neatly fused a celebrity's persona, personal history, and current turmoil as much as this 24-second viral video of Oprah falling on stage this past Saturday in Los Angeles. During a stop on her 2020 Vision tour, she's in full mid-aughts The Secret mode, saying "you have to name it to claim it" and articulating her personal definition of wellness ("all things in balance") as she stalks the stage in a cream pantsuit, ambient New Age music playing while abstract lava lamp shapes shift on a screen behind her. At the exact moment she says "balance doesn't mean all things are equal or at peace at all times," she teeters on her heels, stumbles, and then tumbles, as if pushed. “Woo!” she exclaims as she falls, and then sits up for a final punchline, "Wrong shoes!"

Immediately after the footage circulated, the jokes began: The fall has been viewed millions of times, remixed into a hip-hop song, and commented on by thousands in the Shade Room and on TMZ. “Michael and Kobe blew a gust of wind. Balance," commented Snoop Dogg. 50 Cent, who has a history of feuding with and criticizing the mogul, made a video mocking the fall and posted on Instagram that "Michael Jackson's ghost trip[ped] her."

On the surface, the timing of the key word "balance" with a slip makes the clip a generically funny meme. But given recent controversies, the footage syncs scandal with coincidence. The symbolism is pretty layered: Oprah’s been in the news for what some people claim are efforts to tarnish Kobe Bryant and Michael Jackson’s legacies; she fell in Los Angeles, where city icon Bryant recently died and where Jackson died more than a decade ago. There’s also the length of the video in seconds — a number that's everywhere in American culture right now because it was on Bryant's jersey: 24. Then there's the fall itself, easily synonymous with decline or diminished hubris. How did we get here?

.................... Suddenly Oprah’s upper-echelon status, her powerful influence in the American publishing industry, and her former associations with moguls like Simmons and Harvey Weinstein were uniting to make her a subject of frustration, or at least confusion, for some. What’s really being exposed in all of these perceived missteps is the American publishing industry’s blighted practices, the incestuousness of American celebrity, and the black community’s internal conflicts. But even so, now, throwback videos of her interrogating Toni Braxton to tears live on Instagram Explore pages alongside images of her smiling with Harvey Weinstein. How is it that, two years after the zeitgeist basically begged her to run for president, Oprah's reputation has taken a seemingly significant hit?

....................................................... In the late ’80s and ’90s, Oprah and her show became national phenomenons, boosted by iconography (the infamous image of a svelte Oprah pulling a wagon of fat, which became the highest-rated episode in the show’s history), access (notably, she scored the first interview with Michael Jackson after his 1993 child sexual abuse trial), and triumph (her 1998 win against Texas cattle owners in the infamous "mad cow" libel case). Slowly but surely, Oprah’s image further coalesced with a brand, one big enough to defeat both one of the nation’s largest industries and its powerful lobby.

................................................. In March 2019, after the American broadcast of Dan Reed’s Leaving Neverland, Oprah hosted an interview special with the documentary’s subjects Wade Robson and James Safechuck. The film detailed Safechuck and Robson’s allegations that Michael Jackson sexually abused them for years in the ’80s and ’90s, and sparked a reassessment of Jackson’s legacy. After the special aired, Oprah said she’d received more “hateration” for the interview than anything she’d done in her career since her appearance on Ellen’s coming out episode in 1997. Some of that criticism came from black celebrities, who lambasted her for betraying the access and trust Jackson had given her in 1993, by featuring his alleged victims. Later that year, on the heels of this interview, 50 Cent accused her of only going after black men in the #MeToo era. During the special, Oprah herself seemed to predict the criticism she’d face, telling Robson and Safechuck, “Y’all are going to get it. I’m going to get it. We’re all going to get it.”

Perhaps Oprah’s accurate anticipation of the backlash is informed by a remembrance of those ’80s battles, and of the way black women throughout history have been punished for being outspoken. ...................... Oprah admitted that Russell Simmons and his supporters had pressured her to remove herself from the On the Record documentary, but that, in the end, it was her own conscience that prompted her to leave the project. It seems like Oprah has been navigating a question many black women find themselves asking, a question epitomized by Morrison in Song of Solomon: “Can’t I love what I criticize?”

............................ Although Oprah has since abdicated her talk show perch, and her famous beige sofa, she's become synonymous with both the therapeutic and confessional connotations of the couch. She’s built a life on her ability to ask questions well, and so has Gayle King. It's been disheartening to see the ways in which they've been torn apart for doing just that. But if Oprah's career has taught us anything, it's that you don't get the important stuff (recognition, fame, fortune, criticism, both justified and not) without asking the kinds of provocative questions that developed that career in the first place. ●

More info about the collapse of Kew Media group (extracts from a long article):
(Big irony here- Kew media Distribution and DR used innocent MJ as a cash machine, and were themselves used as a cash machine (ATM).)

Kew Media: How The Production Group Behind ‘The Inventor’ & ‘Dance Moms’ Collapsed After One Acquisition Too Many

After nearly three months navigating perilously choppy waters, with some of its best talent abandoning ship and a steady drip of damaging press, Canada’s Kew Media Group finally sunk last Friday. The global producer-distributor’s eight directors resigned, scores of others lost their jobs, and the company will now be stripped of its assets. For insiders caught up in the wreckage, the postmortem has begun on how this still-young company unraveled, taking down with it a profitable UK distribution arm that had a library boasting some of the biggest TV shows of 2019.

Founded by media financiers Peter Sussman and Steven Silver, KMG announced itself to the world with a $50M IPO on the Toronto Stock Exchange in 2016. It embarked on a spending spree, acquiring or taking stakes in around 15 companies over two years................................

That was until November 2019, when the company dropped a bombshell that ultimately led to its collapse. In a statement to investors, it said CFO Geoff Webb supplied KMG’s lenders with reports containing “inaccurate information regarding working capital.” It resulted in KMG defaulting on its $100 million credit facility — provided by America’s Truist bank (formerly SunTrust), Toronto-Dominion Bank and the Bank of Montreal — and sparked a panicked fire sale of some of its biggest assets. In the end, it was too little too late.

KMG insiders said Webb’s irregular reports were a symptom of the group’s problems, not the reason for its downfall. “He was not exactly thrown under the bus, but the bus certainly reversed over him a few times,” observed one source.

Deadline has spoken to half-a-dozen people close to KMG to establish the reasons for its collapse, with consensus emerging around a number of theories. The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal, said KMG overreached with its acquisitions, adopted an unorthodox approach to producers sharing resources, had little central strategy, and made the mistake of dipping into the accounts of its distributors KMD and TCB to cash flow the business when things turned sour. KMG’s administrator FTI Consulting declined comment.

..................... As the cash issues became apparent, KMG started dipping into the bank accounts — or “treasuries” as they are known internally — of distribution arms KMD and TCB, according to five people familiar with the matter. One source said that between $14M-$17M was taken out of the KMD treasury and not returned, although Deadline has not been able to verify this figure. Some of the money was royalties owed to KMD’s production clients for international sales of their TV shows, but the source said it was used to help producers within the group when they had cash-flow issues, such as delays to productions, and was put towards other corporate overheads. “They were taking money, but we were last to get it back,” said a KMD insider.

....................Some used KMG’s two UK distributors, KMD and TCB, as an example: Both companies had their own London offices and at times butted heads over clients. What’s more, KMG’s indies were not obligated to distribute their shows through the sales houses. “It was encouraged but not coerced,” said a source. This light-touch central strategy was indicative of the way Sussman and Silver ran the group, according to several insiders, with many noting that they spent a lot of time on the buy-and-build agenda, rather than managing the existing assets. For example, KMG did not have board members on all the companies it owned, according to records seen by Deadline. “They were busy hopping around the world looking for acquisitions and not running the companies,” one person observed.

..........................“It is encouraging that there has been a strong level of interest in parts of the group, including TCB Media Rights, that continue to trade normally outside of any insolvency process,” said FTI’s senior managing director Simon Kirkhope.

..................................The same can not be said for Kew Media Distribution, a once-thriving sales house that insiders say is an “innocent victim” of the missteps at KMG. FTI is now in the process of winding down the 24-year-old company. Some 31 employees were made redundant on Friday, while another 15 — including finance and contracts staff — have been kept on for a short period of time to assist the administrators. The 15 were told that they would lose their statutory redundancy pay if they walked out, according to a source. It is understood there was some relief when staff received their February pay packet.

News of the job cuts was communicated by FTI on Friday and not by KMG’s management. “There was nothing from Toronto HQ which said sorry. Everyone was called into the office, or dialed in on a call, and told by the administrators themselves,” said one onlooker. There is visceral anger among KMD employees — one insider compared KMD to an ice cube that has been allowed to melt over the past three months. There is also huge sympathy for the distributor among the wider group. “I feel very sorry for them,” said one former colleague.

FTI said: “As there were no potential purchasers for KMD specifically, we regrettably have no choice but to cease the wider operations of KMD immediately, resulting in a number of redundancies. We are working together with the relevant authorities to offer support to the employees affected.”

As well as Line of Duty, one of the biggest dramas on British television, KMD sold shows including HBO and Channel 4’s buzzy Michael Jackson documentary Leaving Neverland and Worzel Gummidge, a drama featuring The Office star Mackenzie Crook and Michael Palin. Its most recent earnings for the nine months to December 2017 showed its EBITDA profit stood at £3.8M, while an insider said the company generated a record margin in 2018. Staff say KMD’s demise is partly a result of the company being used as an ATM by the rest of the group.

There are also deep misgivings about clients not being paid the royalties they were owed because KMG’s purse strings were being closely policed by Truist bank after the group defaulted on its credit facility. As a result, several customers terminated their contracts, including Leaving Neverland‘s Amos Pictures, while others supported a petition to wind-up KMD, served by film distributor 101 Films. One insider said news of the winding-up petition, first reported by Deadline last month, prompted up to 30 other clients to terminate their contracts.

KMD’s website says it manages the international rights to a library of more than 11,000 hours of TV and digital content, but its hard to determine the value or volume of its assets following KMG’s death spiral. Some of its contracts will remain valid, others will not. Each termination attempt will have to be evaluated, said a source. This was also something noted by FTI, which said: “All customers and rights owners should continue to meet their contractual obligations to KMD while a long-term solution is finalized to transition or sell KMD’s extensive library of content.”

The KMG postmortem may have begun, but there are still plenty of loose ends to tie up for a company that had ambitions to compete with global studios, but was never quite the sum of its parts.

A film maker with Kew media has commented under this article to confirm that they had a similar experience:

I am a client of Kew Media group, a small independent filmmaker who put 2 years and a lot of his own money (and his friends and family money) into a film. Kew gave us the typical “Low projections- high projections”. They were terrible and I never felt like they cared one way or they other. In the 4th quarter, according to our contract, I brought a sale for $60,000 and dropped it at their feet– because that was what the terms of our agreement said. They did the paperwork and collected all $60,000 — knowing that they were never going to pay it out.

Kew was an ATM– at the expense of a lot of filmmakers who gave everything they had to make stories that mattered. I am sure someone can rationalize this away– not me. It feels more like they have kidnapped my child and held her for ransom.

I am deeply disturbed by the idea that it was “one to many aquisitions” as everyone takes there bonuses and walks off.

she scored the first interview with Michael Jackson after his 1993 child sexual abuse trial

that was before the allegations!

And there wasn't trial either in 93...

These "journalists" can't even get basic, easily verifiable facts straight but act like experts on the MJ allegations, fuelling the guilty myth for decades (that's a common misconception that there was somewhat a trial in 93, not an exceptional mistake).

This ''journalist is an idiot!

i see more and more screenshots of tweets from the estate (like the one with freddy kruger).

those are fake! the estate has never and will never answer or comment anything to dan reed or anything that has to do with the stupid allegations.

i have seen a couple more fake tweet screenshots recently. please always check the twitter page of michael jackson.

i don’t know who is faking those tweets. maybe the person thinks it’s funny. but it’s not funny and also only causes confusion.

-I just want to say to fans in every corner of the earth, every nationality, every race, every language: I love you from the bottom of my heart. I would love your prayers and your goodwill, and please be patient and be with me and believe in me because I am completely, completely innocent. But please know a lot of conspiracy is going on as we speak. -MJ
