Dangerous Short Films are currently being upscaled to 4K on YouTube!

Why are the other dangerous short films not restored? Estate fails again

Meanwhile Prince's estate is giving us Sign of the Times....in Imax
I understand it’s easy to pivot to Prince’s estate, but his fans aren’t thrilled with them either for a variety of reasons. You could absolutely argue that they surpass the MJ estate in terms of feeding existing fans with reissues and whatnot, but in terms of actually extending and enhancing his legacy? They’ve been floundering. Even our estate has done a better job in that field (e.g., the biopic, the Thriller 40 documentary, the Vegas show, the Broadway show).

Not shilling for the estate here. Just emphasizing that not everything is going well in Prince land as many may believe.

I've seen the criticisms but I don't really get them. The latest is the Edelman documentary, but reality is that, if that one was out, Prince would have gotten a beating in social media. And they refrained of that. Okay, whatever.

But Sign of the Times Super Deluxe? Diamonds and Pearls Super Deluxe? Hours of new content to the entire fanbase.

We got fake songs and drip-fed demos with their original early 80s mastering. Local restricted musicals (so not every fan in the world has seen it). The mess of the biopic. Maybe other estates are doing it better than Prince's, but Prince's is doing it better than MJ's. That's how low the bar is

I actually don‘t know a single person irl that‘s not an MJ fan and has heard about any of these

Exact opposite for me—most of my close friends aren’t MJ fans and are aware of all of them (excluding T40, which was a bit of a ridiculous inclusion now that I think about it). One of my college aged coworkers actually started listening to MJ because “Chicago” was trending on TikTok.

Again, I acknowledge that the MJ estate sucks. But I would argue that, faults and all, they’ve done a decent job in prolonging MJ’s exposure and expanding him into new avenues. I’ve yet to see a single project from the Prince estate that doesn’t strictly cater to his existing fan base with absolutely no mind towards getting new listeners onboard. Expensive box sets, detailed as they may be, aren’t getting people onboard.

Yeah, if you’re weighing an estate’s performance by how many times they raid the vault, Prince’s wins single-handedly. But that’s not the only factor, and I will argue to my dying breath that his estate is horrible at doing anything actually beyond box sets, hence why his cultural relevancy has plummeted. And again, please don’t read this as me saying the MJ estate is the envy of other estates, lmao. I just think the idea that Prince’s is superior is incredibly short sighted and narrow minded.

Hell could you guys just STFU and enjoy and pay for the musical? Also buy merch.. how dare you to question any actions of the estate
Ngl there were fire designs for t-shirts last time I checked the merch store like 2 years ago, but I wasn't able to get em in before

Edit: looking at them now, they're still pretty fire

Off topic but rq does anyone have a super high quality image of the Dangerous cover art? I found one that is almost 8K quality but the image itself is a bit degraded, anyone know of an actual image of the album cover that is at least above or around 4000 x 4000 pixels?

A movie and music videos are 2 different things. If you go to the official Prince channel on Youtube, many of his music videos are uploaded at 480 quality. If Prince was still alive, they wouldn't be there at all. Prince would have his videos and audio taken down if people post them online. Don Henley does the same thing now with his solo and Eagles stuff. Prince only allowed his stuff on Tidal, nowhere else, because he made a deal with Jay-Z.

Are we talking about Prince or his estate? Prince's estate is still uploading unpublished music videos as of now. And SOTT is a movie, but more importantly, a concert movie. It's a concert shot as a movie. On the other side of the aisle, we got Dangerous Bucharest as a counter for LN lol, and This Is It...

But Prince's music videos are not restored though. They are just uploaded as they are. Also Prince filmed a lot more videos than Mike, just like he recorded more music. Prince also has some club concerts recorded and/or filmed (on videotape in many cases). These were often done after the main concerts and he would perform album tracks and covers instead of the hits. So of course he has more stuff to release.

People are always talking about the estate. But Motown has close to 300 unreleased songs by the J5 and solo. Even Tito has an unreleased guitar album on Motown. I don't know about Marlon though. They also have the 1970s TV specials like Goin' Back To Indiana and ones for some of their other acts too. Motown did release the cartoon show briefly on DVD & Blu-Ray though. But it's long out of print. The estate has no control over the Motown stuff. I don't see people complaining about Motown releasing anything. Or the CBS TV network, who has the family variety show footage.

Yes, but as I said, they're still uploading stuff as of today. As you said Prince has a lot of footage. So I don't see the problem in not upscaling everything when they're still uploading everything... and releasing upscaled stuff (such as SOTT IMAX). So I don't get this point. They are upscaling too. A whole movie.

Motown too deserves some beatings. But they have already released some compilations of unreleased songs. And the box sets. They stopped doing those in 2012 though, so they deserve their lashings too but they did it better than the estate before that

I haven't seen this rerelease, but with Sign O' The Times, there's a part (U Got The Look) that they can't do anything with. It's really the music video and is not live, it's the 12" single extended version. It's from a videotape source. When the concert was on VHS, the video quality difference is not really noticeable, but it was when it got put on DVD. The original footage of U Got The Look is said to be thrown out or lost and only the tape edit exists.

Yes! I do have it somewhere. It's a pretty large file, and I will have to look for it.
