I reckon those two songs demand a lot from Michael vocally and he cut them for that reason rather than resorting to lip-synching.

If only he retained that attitude for his world tour in 1996.

Exactly.He maybe never even had laryngitis during that tour,maybe only during like 3 shows in early 1996.And a fever maybe in Munich 1997.He has no excuse for lip synching a 2 years long world tour.He never even had one lol.Prince sang live at a concert in December 2002,while he was having the flu!!!And Prince killed those vocals,even if he was sick!Michael was either lazy,either couldnt sing anymore. But the vocals from,for example,the Copenhagen 1997 concert seem to proove that he could still carry a note...still great dancing during History tour,i guess..
