Drake featuring Michael Jackson (TONIGHT)

Trying to silence people with legitimate concerns about how the estate is handling MJ's material is really tiring. If you like the song that's fantastic (I don't actually mind the song itself) but stop telling people who think differently to shut up

They didn't honour an album Michael put out in his lifetime's anniversary (Dangerous) but will give half finished songs without masters to a guy MJ never met for a duet. BUT BUT BUT - MJ is being brought to a new audience!

I'll ask again: where was this support for charts and youth exposure during Xscape?

Not sure what you mean. Xscape sold about 2 million copies worldwide which is incredible for a posthumous album. The lead single 'Love Never Felt So Good' was a top 10 hit in many markets, including the two big ones, US & UK markets. There was plenty of support for the Xscape album, as far as I can remember. Of course it had its naysayers too, but overall the fans reaction was more positive, hell of a lot more positive than the reaction to this Drake song.

Love the song! It's a grower. And so happy to see MJ on the charts again. Goog move by the Estate!

Yeah! that's actually great news, maybe this is a smart move by the Estate before showing Thriller 4K worldwide :)

I mean within the fan base, specifically this forum. There was a fair amount of backlash over the decision to completely remix Michael's material in the effort to pander to contemporary music listeners and put Michael back in the public consciousness. Those same people are now applauding this song for doing the exact same thing, just with a lot less respect toward Michael. Very odd, isn't it?

Perhaps I'm being overly strict with this, but I can't help it. I can't stand anything about this situation.

this is actually rather nice. Another hit.

I definitely agree with you on that. If you didn't support Xscape, you shouldn't support this Drake song either. I'm with you on that.

if its really already #3 on US charts.. which suprises me honestly considering it was released just days ago and who really knows about the song aside from big MJ and Drake fans.

If that's really the case though it could easily get to #1 with some radio play and some basic promotion..

First number one single in 21 years?? I hope so.

I hope so, too. How does the credit work, for a #1, for a featured artist? Is it considered to be at the same level as the main artist? Paul Anka will probably get something out of it, no doubt and I don't like that, because I think he's a tosser.

As a featured artist, Michael will be credited. Justin Timberlake was a featured artist on LNFSG but he was credited. In the same way, MJ was a featured artist on the 3T song 'Why' but he was credited for its chart success. So if this song hits #1 or top 10, MJ will get the credit.

How so? MJ is being sold out again. The uproar over the Justin Bieber remix [which used the original masters and made Michael sound incredible] seems to be non-existent here. It's baffling to me. Trying to silence MJ being artistically disrespected in order for another chart hit is bizarre too.

Very true.

It seems to be a case by case basis. The Bieber remix (as you said) was met with massive backlash, and plenty of people expressed their distaste for the proposed duets album, yet "Don't Matter to Me" is being applauded, and there was a fair amount of interest in the remix of "Hot Fun in the Summertime."

Sure, it's great to see Michael on the charts again, but that doesn't make the song any better. Sales =/= quality sadly.

I'm honestly still dont know what to feel about this situation... but one thing i can tell you is that MJ's part "It Dont matter To me" has been stuck in my head for the past 3 days now...

Also... this world right now is run by $$$ and whoever has it... can get anything... including Michael's vocals... and it sucks that this has to happen... but at the same time... My heart feels happy to hear new vocals/words/verses....

...It doesn't help that much of us fan base here are a bit 'old school'! We as a whole are not the most 'in' to todays market.. Of course this doesn't speak for everyone, but lets not fool ourselves, I'm in my 30's and there are plenty here older than I am. I can admit I am not the most trendy person when it comes to the music industry today..

Drake having an MJ track is a very positive thing, even if we don't like it for ourselves.

The song is very melodic and processes or not, I can listen to M J’s vocals are a huge turn on for me😍

It definitely seems to be a case-by-case basis. I think the uproar over the Bieber remix was mostly because it was Justin Bieber. That's how it seemed to me, at least, at the time. Some people love to hate him, or criticise him, or see him as a joke in the industry.....a "try-hard"...and to have the great Michael Jackson's wagon hitched to him, seemed like an insult, for some fans and just unpalatable. I guess Drake is more acceptable at this point in time - he is very "hot right now", whether we like it or not. I agree with you that sales =/= quality (and I don't like the song, either); BUT sales/chart positions are still important to most fans (and the Estate) and were important to Michael, too. I'll be happy to see him get another #1 worldwide, if it happens, but it will be doing it without my $, for sure.

I like the song more now after many listens. Still the vocals could be a little louder and not so edited/procesed - but still ok.

Hope this brings attention to MJ eith the youngsters. - MJ is getting more plays at Spotify already.

Hope it goes to #1 - and MJ is also credited, don't know how that works.

Lets be fair - without MJ this song would NOT get this kind of attention or so many spins... - TheMJ effect is still amazing !!

Seeing MJ get some shine is undoubtably great to see. How he gets that shine however leaves a bitter taste in my mouth most of the time with the Estate's efforts.

Is the estate & their fat head puppet, going to be releasing a statement today or not ?

Well if it's a private sale between Drake and Anka, then the Estate can only apply for royalties.. surely?

The Estate needed to sign off permission for Drake to use Michael's vocals. Not sure about the copyright itself.

Midweek chart update for UK just in, the song has debuted at number 3. Number 2 is Drake, which I'd imagine will drop because it's out of the iTunes top 40. The full week chart is on Monday, but sadly a debut at number one is unlikely because George Ezra's sales are so high. With confidence, this should debut at number 2 on Friday, despite the number 3 on midweek.

1 George Ezra - Shotgun [26.4k]
2 Drake - Nonstop [21.2k] *
3 Drake (feat. Michael Jackson) - Don't Matter To Me [20.4k] *
4 Clean Bandit (feat. Demi Lovato) - Solo [19.9k]
5 Drake - Emotionless [18.4k] *

Not surprised, us UK fans always supported MJ more than the USA.

If it does debut at No.2 that is still mightily impressive considering Love Never Felt So Good peaked at No.8 in the UK with promotion etc.
