I have to write a paper for my English course on comedy and I was given by my professor The Daily Show with Jon Stewart as my topic, problem is I've never watch the daily show in my life and I was wondering if anyone could recommend what episode should I watch and and write about based on these instrucions

Prompt
Marvin Diogenes, the editor of Laughing Matters, writes that “comedy does important cultural work,
persuading us to think about the world around us, and often to think in a focused way about the
everyday worries and concerns from which comedy seems to provide an escape” (63). This idea is a
possible aspect to consider as you think about this paper as well as the rest of the papers this semester.
In a 1,000-1,250-word essay, your purpose is to write an analysis of a specific work or works within
your topic and develop an argument about its comic methods and cultural roles. Essentially you’ll be
exploring how the comedy works and how it reflects the culture or some segment of the culture.

Billyworld, check out the episode that aired 2/21/2012- very recent episode.
The Lewis Black segment on how the media handled the coverage of the death of Whitney Houston.

^^And that episode that aired 10/1/2009 has an awesome segment of John Oliver ("correspondent") covering the G20 summit.

Either one seems interesting. In either way- both segments cover everyday cultural events.
The first one deals with the way mass media handles the death of a mainstream accepted cultural icon- while the icon is largely a world wide beloved figure- this segment reflects back the stances of the American media. This one is a neat example on how comedy deals not only with a cultural event- but how especially comedy itself processes both- the event and the handling of the event.

The second segment is an interesting mix of a topic that affects worldwide- the G20 summit. And in essence the viewer gets a good taste of local politics- as well as other world wide issues, as depicted in the "Free Tibet" participants.

Hope that helps.
