HIStory 30th Anniversary

Michael Jackson’s Expansive 52-Page Album Booklet for The HIStory Album
June 16, 2025
“HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I” album by Michael Jackson was exciting not only because of the music, but for the 52-page booklet that came with the two-disc CD set and 3-vinyl record version with more than just credits and lyrics; it included rare photos, artwork, and an extensive timeline of awards Michael had won. The booklet opens with actress Elizabeth Taylor’s page long tribute to Michael. that concludes with:
“I think he is one of the finest people to hit this planet, and in my estimation, he is the true King of Pop, Rock, and Soul. I love you Michael”. #HIStory30 #MichaelJackson

Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone” Is His First Single To Debut at #1
June 17, 2025
On September 2, 1995, “You Are Not Alone” from the HIStory album became the first Michael Jackson single to debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In the short film for the song, Michael appeared with Lisa Marie Presley, his wife at the time, in scenes inspired by the renowned Mitchell Parrish painting Daybreak.

Michael Jackson’s “Money” Takes Aim At Gold Diggers
June 18, 2025
You don’t care, you kill for the money
Do or dare, the thrill for the money
Are you infected with the same disease of lust, gluttony and greed?
Then watch the ones with the biggest smiles, the idle jabbers
‘Cause they’re the backstabbers
  • One of Michael’s biting rap verses on “Money”, a cutting anthem from the HIStory album about gold diggers and those who take advantage of other’s financial success.

What was wrong with Thriller 40?

- the worst doc ever (tiktok. random people, not much unseen footage, songs were ignored)
- cheap artwork
- bonus tracks like "Hot Street" and others were left out
- bonus tracks like "sunset driver" or "can't get out of the rain" are OTW tracks not thriller.
- bonus tracks were not included on the vinyl

the only benefits of T40:

- some unheard bonus tracks, already leaked bonus tracks in good quality
- paper-artwork on the CD was decent
- Beat It & Thriller 4K (even tho not physically)

Was it ever established when Sunset Driver was recorded? If it was done in 1980/81, like some were speculating, then I think it’s justified to have it on Thriller 40.

Regarding Hot Street, I do wonder if the idea that they decided against releasing it on Thriller 40, because they believe it has potential to later be remixed and released as a single, or on an album, holds any water. It certainly sounds plausible.

when you say "later" you mean in like 2050 or something?

HIStory 30th Anniversary Review
In conclusion, HIStory is one of the most impressive albums to exist. Full of songs that ranges in different genres, from pop, to R&B, and hard rock to hip hop. Full of features like Janet Jackson, the Notorious B.I.G. and Slash bring their talents to strength the music. And being Michael Jackson’s most personal and raw performance, letting those who were against him know how he truly feels. This marks one of the most impressive albums to exist, and there’s no other album like it.

Michael Jackson’s HIStory 30th Anniversary: The Album That Spoke the Truth
30 years ago, Michael Jackson dropped one of the most powerful and brutally honest albums of all time — HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I. In this video, we take a deep dive into the meaning, controversy, and untold truth behind the HIStory album. From “Scream” to “They Don’t Care About Us,” this was MJ at his boldest, fighting back against the media, injustice, and betrayal.

For the 30th anniversary of HIStory, the Estate has put a lot of effort into. It's really unbelievable where they get all their energy from.
Michael Jackson’s HIStory Album Was Released 30 Years Ago On This Date
June 20, 2025
Thirty years ago on this date – June 20th 1995, a Tuesday – was the official worldwide release for “HIStory – Past, Present And Future – Book I”.
“HIStory is a journey through the struggles of injustice and the ups and downs of life. It is an album that opens with a ‘Scream’ and ends with a ‘Smile.’ It is a cathartic expression of an artist who was expressing his suffering but also his innate optimism.” – Albumism on the “HIStory Continues” set.

Guys - nobody actually wants a rerelease of HIStory.

They did a 2nd anniversary release in 1997, with a lot of bonus tracks. It was very poorly received.

All I want is just Disc 2 to be released as an album on its own, so when I tell Apple Music to play Michael Jackson’s HIStory album it doesn’t play the Greatest Hits part first. I realise I could do this with a playlist but I’d really just love to be able to tell Siri to play the album.

It was released as a standalone CD.

Saying "play disc 2" doesn't work?

Or "History Continues"?

We want a rerelease of HIStory so we can buy remastered HIStory outtakes like Innocent Man. And I mean just those, not the entire album again. Blood on the Dance Floor wasn't a HIStory anniversary album, but rather a collection of remixes and Dangerous outtakes.

It's like I said: You don't actually want a rerelease of HIStory. You want an all-new album made up of unreleased tracks.

I would buy an album full of unreleased HIStory songs, if by that you mean a new album.

I suspect that the Estate took the song Money so much to heart that they decided not to release a special 30th anniversary edition. This is, of course, a great honor for the Estate and entirely in keeping with the spirit of HIStory. You can really tell that the Estate thinks ahead and acts wisely.;)

It's soul destroying seeing comments like "what exactly is the point of this thread?" or "Guys - nobody actually wants a rerelease of HIStory"

Imagine if some crazy fan took the time to create a "HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I (30th Anniversary Deluxe Fan Edition)" collating it all together for everyone to enjoy.

It would have been a good reason to finally officially publish history Tour on Blue ray

- worst album doc we‘ve had so far - agreed
- cheap artwork - agreed
- bonus tracks like "Hot Street" and others were left out - Yes, but I understand why. Thriller 40 was not supposed to be that big of an anniversary album and those tracks are better off with a posthumous album or Thriller 50.
- bonus tracks like "sunset driver" or "can't get out of the rain" are OTW tracks not thriller - Sunset Driver was recorded in 1982 and Can‘t Get Outta The Rain is a remix made in 1982 of You Can‘t Win Pt. 2
- bonus tracks were not included on the vinyl - yea they def shouldve released those on vinyl (and properly transferred and restored those demos)
- some unheard bonus tracks, already leaked bonus tracks in good quality - yes it was a good selection of songs for a 40th anniversary
- paper-artwork on the CD was decent - yep
- Beat It & Thriller 4K (even tho not physically) - best thing out of that T40 campaign although they shouldve restored the original audio mix and not just use the Vision transfer as well as not denoising Beat It as much as possible)

They have finished the munich concert, video and audio, so it‘s just waiting for being released. From what I‘ve heard, next year after the biopic most likely

By then the Blue ray is extinct that you don't have to do it anymore

Guys - nobody actually wants a rerelease of HIStory.
It depends on how it looks like - e.g. you could adjust the cover-artwork (wasn't it supposed to be golden at the beginning? Would be cool for an anniversary version, especially for vinyl). Maybe also like the pop-up-version for Dangerous. All this printed on a high quality material. Add demos and/or acapella-versions, plus unreleased material. There would be sooo many options.
