Is It Scary (song discussion)

Interesting that this song wasn't on that Scream compilation.
I really feel dirty Diana shouldn't have been on there, and also it was somewhat featured on the remix at the end so it is weird that it wasnt on the actual album like the rest of the tracks in the remix

This song is brutally underrated and overlooked by the masses.

Had IIS been released as a propper single (perhaps with a new shot short film/video) it could have granted Michael his last huge hit.

I highly doubt there would be a short film. He already made one for Ghosts, and I’m pretty sure the song is featured there.

IIS was added much later during post production to the Ghosts movie. iirc it replaced 2Bad.

'Is It Scary' sounds very similar to the 'Ghosts' song, which seems to explain its exclusion from the 'Scream' album.

According to the official press release of the 'Scream' album:

"Each track on SCREAM is remarkable in its own way. For example, 'Dirty Diana' was the fifth consecutive No. 1 song from the album Bad which shattered records for consecutive chart topping singles off a single album"

So, they also took the chart performance of that song into consideration.

To add in a more song history perspective, for those new to it: it was (and still probably is) widely believed this song was recorded for Addams Family Values in 1993. But that's unlikely given Jam and Lewis' first involvement with Michael was the Scream duet (recorded 1994 during HIStory) as they confirmed in interviews time and time again... For "Is It Scary", Jam & Lewis wrote the music for the scary song idea Michael had in mind, and Michael did his thing with the lyrics. Which could be from an earlier 1993 song, but we can only speculate.
