"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

no no no no no
Should've known. So much was left out.

A couple of questions regarding the Motown songs:

1. How many Jackson 5 songs would you say were in the move (aside from Big Boy and the live medleys)? We already know the songs from the soundtrack (I'll Be There, Never Can Say Goodbye, Who's Lovin' You), were any others included?

2. Are any Motown solo songs included (aside from the live version of Ben), like Music and Me or at least Got to Be There?

3. Were any songs by The Jacksons (Epic years) included?

My family and I plan on watching it on the 24th. They already got the tickets.

I admit that I started to have my doubts about the movie. The fact that a few of the siblings were having problems with the guys running Michael's estate makes me wonder should I support the movie. The fact that Janet, one of my favorite singers and Michael's best friends as a kid, wasn't even in the movie rubbed me the wrong way. Even if it's Michael's movie, Janet, as well as Randy, played significant roles in his career. They were both in the studio when he recorded some of his Off the Wall demos and he and Randy penned the hit Shake Your Body (which I've heard wasn't in the movie). Janet had a special bond with Michael, as she was the first person he would present his new songs to. They also thought alike. When he hummed the melody to her that became We Are the World, Janet said that it reminded her of children dying in Africa. I even heard that Michael had problems with the guys running the estate before he died, and wanted them fired, but don't quote me on that.

I've also been hearing reviews that make me doubt the movie. Apparently, they not only excluded Rebbie, Randy and Janet, but sort brushed over the other siblings' roles in The Jackson 5. For example, it apparently didn't show Tito breaking the guitar string that led to the group forming in the first place. Michael himself witnessed too, so it could've been included. That, plus looking at the trailers, I get the feeling that they sort of whitewashed his early childhood. The clips of him as a kid don't seem to reflect how they looked and dressed back then, like they polished it up too much. I remember another fan pointing out that the "bass" Jermaine was playing in one clip wasn't even a bass, it was a 6-string guitar!

I've even seen reviews that the movie skips over too many things. I heard they jumped from the Victory Tour to the Bad tour performance pretty quickly. Maybe the Bad performance is supposed to serve as a teaser for a second movie (which will cover more of the bad era), but I don't know. I didn't think about it until more info started coming out. I'm wondering should I really be supporting this movie as a die-hard Michael Jackson fan.

It seems to celebrate Michael ,if you agree with that, support it. I cant imagine not liking it as a fan (not seen it yet).
If who is running the estate is more important at this point or what is not shown in the movie, then dont go. But since you already got the tickets... :)

Just got back from the premiere. As an MJ fan, this was simply a night to be remembered. There were impersonators, people of all ages wearing unique MJ shirts (I was kind of worried I'd be the only one wearing an MJ shirt lol), MJ's music being played at stores (I passed by the same store 2 times and they played "Thriller" and "Beat it"), people singing along during the credits and raising their hands like they were at a concert, and one of the impersonators even went to the front of the screen and did a moonwalk hahaha. It was all very amazing!

Despite the bad critics there was an ovation at the end of the film, and each time an iconic song started to play (literally every time Jaafar did a moonwalk too) people cheered. This is the best premiere I've ever gone to.

1- Is there too much Branca?
No. He's in it for no more than 5 scenes I think?
2- Is Toy a big character? Does she have a story arc?
Not at all. She appears for a few scenes and shares only one dialogue with MJ in the entire movie.
3- Do they skip over a lot of Bad era or there's some screentime dedicated to it?
Only the beginning when he's walking to the stage, and then the "Bad" performance at the end. The teasers pretty much gave away the whole Bad era.
4- Is there a lot of Off The Wall era on screen? I heard they cut off the Studio 58 scenes...
No, it was pretty much glossed over. Though they did play a bit of "I Can't Help It" which I don't think is included on the soundtrack. They've also cut off the parts with Michael preaching as a Jehovah witness which we had seen on the set leaks.
5- Do we get the Jermaine left the band drama?
No, but Joe does make a mention of that and says that he was "on his own" or something along those lines.
6- Do they pretend Rebbie, Janet and Randy don't exist?
Pretty much lol

The Branca scenes was the funniest part of the movie btw, not because of the scenes themselves but someone from the audience yelled out and called him a motherfucker when he was introduced lmfao. And when MJ asks what his name is and he says "John Branca" some woman said "who gives a ****?"

That person is bold liar if you haven't noticed. He's also a literal reddit guilter from that sub,
@mods that is going to far please delete this

@Lightbringer
What I meant was that the fans who saw the film, especially those in the close-knit fan community in Germany that I've known for over 25 years, say that the film doesn't delve into the depths of Michael's life and personality. My translator said something about distancing himself, which is incorrect.

@kelley enough is enough u are schizophrenic with some really deep paranoia

@kelley You think I'm a guilter ? since the reviews came out yesterday, I just can't sleep. I'm in a really bad mood. I prayed, I hoped that Michael would finally be understood, that Michael would finally be portrayed as the deep personality we were promised after years of research, and then we get a film that's so superficial. It's great that Jaafar is good, but it was the ultimate and last chance to finally present Michael to the public as a very complex, hurtful, compassionate person, and not just to keep imitating some video clips of him. We have all of that as the original. I've been eagerly awaiting this film for years, precisely because I was finally able to show a different side of him to my friends and acquaintances, and you call me a guilter? Go to hell, please, and never come back. We should have had all of that in the first film, not in a sequel.

Agree

100% is the best score, so 26% is kind of an average rating of 2.6 of 10 on IMDB. Which would make it one of the worst rated movies to ever be made.

Obviously the fuckbags rating the movie is not rating the actual movie, but what was not in it (the allegations). Or they simply was going to diss the movie because they think MJ was a child molester and dont care about the actual film! This is their chance to publicly slate Michael Jackson again through the film and they are not missing that opportunity!

Some of these assholes gave Leaving Neverland like 90-95% despite all the lies and manipulation in it....its not about the film itself its about taking sides.
Bruh honestly fuccck them folks! We know whats up! How does a sold out movie get that rating? Foh & f them!!

Although less a celebration, I also would have preferred the real version including the allegations. But even if we got it, at this point with the toxic reactions now and without a general connciousness shift of us as a planet, I think it would still be received the same as now, poor victim mj withwash and so on.

That said i'm quite sue I will like it. Its torture now waiting until tomorrow evening...

Everyone can rate the film and leave a review at IMDB now

Also dont forget to scroll through existing reviews to leave a thumb up or thumb down.

Lets show the critics they can get lost!

I have just finished watching the ‘Michael’ movie and as a big fan since I was a kid can confirm the negative reviews of this film are exaggerated . Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of MJ is absolutely outstanding. Coleman Domingo as the evil villain Joe is excellent too as are all the supporting cast.

The movie is of course visually stunning and the details of costumes excellent. Much like Bohemian Rhapsody and Elvis it is at times hard to get past the inaccuracies in timeline, song releases etc but that was to be expected. The writing feels at times flimsy and the narrative rushed through, but I also felt that way about the Elvis movie.

I think the film’s biggest flaw is that Joe being an abusive evil father is central to the storyline, with Michael desperately trying to get the hell away from his abuser. But they don’t really show the extent of that, nor the extent of the deep psychological scars Michael carries because of him. This to me seemed to be the driving force behind his need to be “the biggest and the best.” And so while as a fan you feel the emotions of all that I’m doubtful a casual film viewer would understand the context of it all because it just isn’t explored to the depth it needs to be.

Putting John Branca as the man who saves him from his father and helps him reach greater heights with Thriller instead of focusing in on his relationships with Berry Gordy, Quincy or Frank DiLeo was a big joke. There was also a tendency to paint MJ as the genius behind every single creative choice which I think was unnecessary. Showing his true musical genius would have been more flattering and honest. The making of the Beat It video is especially cringe inducing. There are times where the film honestly insults some of the greatest talents that MJ worked with by ignoring their input.

I guess the film portrays Michael according to his public persona, and maybe he was kind, loving, timid , always happy and starry eyed and all those things but ultimately it’s not completely believable that that’s the full picture.

It feels clear to me that somewhere in there was a great script that got pulled to pieces by the estate, Jackson family members and whoever else watering it down quite a lot. But what you get is an enjoyable account of Michael’s life and rise to stardom which I think has an appeal to fans and to those curious to learn about his story. I think those trashing it and calling it “unwatchable” probably are just tired of the biopic fad or actually just wanted to see MJ as a PDF. They probably loved that Leaving Neverland doco, a film with a far worse script and less believable characters.

I give ‘Michael’ 7/10 and say it’s on par with Bohemian Rhapsody as far as biopics go. All fans should go watch it! You’ll have fun!
