For what it’s worth, having a 2 part movie 100% makes sense. The issue though is that the highlights will all be in part 1. The second half of Michael’s life is a tragedy so it will be a very difficult watch.

Not necessarily... Please do not forget that his achievements in the second part ofhis life included Bad, Dangerous and HIStory, as well as the numerous awards he received. Yes, there were the tabloids and the trial, but it is not a black and white story. It never is. I mean, would you say the first part of his life was a tragedy? Because of Joe's beatings?

Surely they would have had to think of this in advance then... A non-linear movie would require it to be planned as a non-linear movie.

Surely they would have had to think of this in advance then... A non-linear movie would require it to be planned as a non-linear movie.

For me Bad and Dangerous up until 93 was highlights that can all be included in the first part.

Everything changed after 93 though . The mystique, the reputation etc it was never quite the same and we all know why.
 
The mystique has literally not left even 15 years after death. This is an annoying line to gatekeep. By 1984 they were already forcing tabloid nonsense, no one cares what European tabloids and middle America have to say about a black icon.

As soon as the dirt comes out on these people then their time is over with just the same as "MJ's" is, but no one will even care to "separate the artist from the art" they've made. All their hatred and suspicion is just a blip that will vanish.

But to be fair, no one else has required a two-part biopic before, and to make a two-part biopic for them, they would have had to fill it with filler scenes. There was so much going on in Michael's life that you could make an 8-hour movie without adding a single filler scene!

The first part of Michael's life was a tragedy too, but people just don't realise it as much because it was all happening behind the scenes. But I mean... his father's abuse, second and third degree burns to his scalp, dealing with vitiligo, lupus, pleurisy... all while having to hide his pain from the world. It's sad to say, but I don't think there was any moment in his life that was truly a good period for him, not during his childhood, not even during Thriller, and certainly not after Thriller... his whole life was tough.

The New Edition biopic was 6 hours over 3 nights (maybe 5 hours without the commercials 🤣). There were no filler scenes and there was still was stuff left out. But, I don't see the Beatles 4 movies being a big hit. First of all movie tickets are more expensive now. 2nd there's been literally over a thousand different books about The Beatles, including ones about people around them like the Apple Scruffs, George Martin, their fan club president, Pete Best's mother, Yoko Ono, George Harrison's sister, etc. There's many magazine articles & documentaries about them too, group & solo. There's nothing else to tell, lol.

A rumor has started circulating on social networks that the movie about Michael Jackson will not be released in 2025, but could be postponed until 2026 or even 2027. However, this has not been confirmed by official sources.
The origin of this speculation comes from insider Jeff Sneider, who expressed his personal opinion in an article. According to him, the lack of trailer, poster and promotional campaign at CinemaCon suggests that the premiere could be delayed.
So far, there is no official information about it. Neither Lionsgate nor the director have announced changes to the release date, so an official announcement will have to be expected.

Good Lord this has already been debunked. Sneider, Belloni and all these hollywood reporters HATE Michael. They are biased and have a vendetta and they want the biopic to fail so they are going to do whatever they can to make that happen.

And some fans seem determined to help them.

I agree totally that the mystique and the iconic truth about Michael persists to this day and will only get stronger as time goes by.

However, I think to say that the issues against Michael came only from "European tabloids and middle America" is disingenuous. If we are being honest, Michael got it from all sides, including the black community (something that persists, in some ways, to this day). There is a segment that believes and takes great offense to the following "facts":

He turned himself white
He only dated white women
He only married white women
He used plastic surgery to erase his natural Negro features and replace them with Caucasian features
He adopted 3 white children

You can find this talk on social media and in interviews with prominent black artists in the hip-hop/rap community.

Obviously, I don't agree with it but truth is, Michael was damned by all sides.

I love this and I'm totally up for it but need clarification on the release schedule. One film for each year of Michael's life, sure, but are they being released in a single weekend? The same year? I need to know! :ROFLMAO:

For context, here's part of the Sony statement for the 4 Beatles biopics ... "the dating cadence of the films, the details of which will be shared closer to release, will be innovative and groundbreaking"

No-one actually knows what 'dating cadence' means but everyone is assuming it relates to the release schedule. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Back in the 1980s, Mike & others like Tina Turner, Lionel Richie, Prince, Whitney Houston, etc. were accused of watering down their music to reach the white audience & sold out. Whitney was even booed at the Soul Train Awards one year. There was a skit on In Living Color where "Whitney" is performing Rhythmless Nation (parody of Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation). Also, Louis Farrakhan said that Mike & Prince were bad influences for young Black men because they were effeminate acting. I guess Farrakhan changed his mind, because later in life Mike used Nation Of Islam bodyguards. He also defended Mike.

But with the younger Black audience today, I tend to see the opposite. Non-Black artists performing R&B or hip hop are said to be "culture vultures" or "cultural appropriation". That wasn't the case in the 1980s. Teena Marie, Lisa Lisa, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Beastie Boys, Gloria Estefan, Wham!, Culture Club, etc. were generally accepted by Black listeners. They received R&B radio airplay & their music videos were shown on BET. Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, & Don Henley even appeared on Soul Train.

I had forgotten about some of that but remember it now that you've brought it up. I think there's just too much trying to box everyone into stereotypes.

I don't want to go too far off on this topic so I'll keep it to MJ.

Still, to this day, I see black people in the business trying to refer to him as having been a "gangsta" and the "n word". It's like they are trying to prove his "blackness".

Michael wasn't "stereotypically black" he wasn't "stereotypically white" he wasn't "stereotypically anything". He was truly his own unique person and the fact that he preferred Shirley Temple, Charlie Chaplin, water balloon fights and super soakers over hanging out at the club or banging groupies doesn't make him less black. No one ever let the man just be who he was.

You're right actually. I suppose in particular that deserves to be called out, but truthfully that don't stand out as much. I would just slot it in with middle America.

America in general really, members of his generation, parts of Gen Z, all of them are strewn throughout this.

If it's truly two part they will just go 1960s-1980s and then another film covering the 90s-00s. But i doubt that this is happening
 
OK, can I say something that nobody else has said, well I don't think!
Michael in this film is played by Jaafar, not an actor or a imitator! A real Jackson! Now think about it, he will know his Uncle, will have spent time with him, his Dad is Jermaine who will of spoke to him along with many of the other Jacksons including Tito before he passed :(. Couple this with Michael's Sons and Daughter and many friends and you know that Jaafar will give many of us (fans) and general public a side of Michael we never got to see. Even if you met him briefly you still did not get the privilege of knowing the real person only the persona and mega star. I for one never thought this should cut corners or not tell the whole story! Look at how long Jacksons an American story was! There us all the start up when all of them where little and learning and then a story we don't even know about. This is why it's important to not go shy on telling the whole lot. I mean after This is It , it's not like they can make another one! So very important that if it needs 2 movies then so be it! Plus I want everyone to see the genius he was, what about all the ideas he had to go in films the extra shows , the appearances! The list goes on! Yes take your time. If need be and it requires 2 films great! Let's have the jackson 5 music first then go onto the Jacksons and tell and show how Michael was learning from the greats! Then go onto his solo career and up with Thriller going into BAD Area! Don't just stop as if he was not making, creating, he always was but show why he was so non productive sometimes and let the world fall I love within gentle and kind human being again. See him for the Manchild he was but also how shrewd he could be when it came to his profession.
Also if Travis says its true believe me it is!
