"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

It's so difficult because I can completely understand the need for two films, but I can't help but think it's a harder sell than *the* MJ film to see.
Yeah, a while back I didn't think they would make more than one film for this exact reason, I was of the mindset that this is a one time thing.

I do get it, if they have filmed so much, that they feel this would work better as two films, then it makes sense to do that.

If they were going to do a two-parter from the outset, John Logan would presumably have written and shaped the script quite differently. Otoh, he's very experienced, he's had to work on scripts that were started by other people so I guess he can cope with this situation. Of course, I know actors have to make themselves available for re-shoots or pickups after a film has wrapped but at some point they will have another job to move on to so that seems tricky for the production team to manage (afaik Colman Domingo is currently filming a new season of Euphoria). Then again, Jaafar isn't an established actor so he will be available (presumably).

I'm not fretting about the re-shoots, I'm content to wait for the upcoming announcements. But still ...

The film should be
"Michael" (Book I) - Jackson 5, Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad
"Michael (Book II) - Dangerous, History, Invincible, This is It
They can't split film like that.

Keep in mind, it was already confirmed that child molestion will be included in the movie. That means, first movie won't end untill dangerous era ending

:ROFLMAO: And again you show that you have no clue of what you are talking about.

They literally can split it anywhere they want. It's only about how they execute it.
The accusations can be put in either of the potential two movies (cause we don't even have confirmation it will be two), or in both.
There's a thing called EDITING. And a movie hinges greatly on editing. There are big hollywood classics and blockbusters where their success was born in the editing room.

What if they split the movie in two, but released both parts together? People would then be free to either watch both parts back to back with only a short break to go to the bathroom between movies if they prefer one long movie, or they could watch each part on separate days if 4 hours is too long for them. This way, they could also have a special bundle price for a ticket to see both parts, whether on the same day or separate days, to encourage people to watch both parts. What do you think?

Michael: HIStory Begins
Michael: HIStory Continues
Oh I really love those titles! Give Branca a call! Or Graham! Or Fuqua! Jaafar! Somebody!

The quote for the upcoming Beatles biopics is:

"The four films will be released "in proximity" to each other in April 2028, Mendes said, adding that Sony executive Tom Rothman described it as "the first bingeable theatrical experience."

If Lionsgate went for your suggestion they'd get there first.

EDIT - to be clear, I'm looking at this from a PR point of view. Something like this would get loads of attention (I mean, more than it's going to get, anyway, since it's Michael).

It would seriously hurt sales of the movie by releasing them both together

John Campea said in a video that the reason for splitting it up would be due to overwhelming confidence since they believe they could hit 1.8 to 2 billion in revenue from both films and were very pleased with what they saw

MIght as well begin a useless debate

Why not just turn it into a TV series?
Well, tbf, it wouldn't be the first time that's been mentioned on the thread. :ROFLMAO:

Personally, I thought @etoile 37 's suggestion about the cinema release was great. Sam Mendes has said he didn't want to do the Beatles' biopics as a tv series bc it didn't feel right. Nobody knows how the Beatles films are going to be released (all on the same day? the same weekend?) but Mendes has said, "... I'm excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies ..."

If the Michael biopic is likely to end up as a two-parter I bet the production team are paying attention to the hoopla around the Beatles stuff. Doesn't mean they will release both films at the same time but I bet they are discussing that option from every angle even if they end up rejecting it.

NOTHING is confirmed.
MJVibe even states it at the end of their article.

The articles which MJvibe is citing also are from April 2nd. So they’re roughly two weeks late.

There’s NOTHING new.
And the announcement on the way moving forward, or on changing plans regarding the movie being split, or new release window(s) is still pending.

Also no new info on deadline/vanity/hollywood reporter..

So, keeping calm & waiting for the facts!

The 2-movie split is a toss-up (with three sources, seems pretty likely), but I think the 2026 date is all but confirmed since it's from the Estate and Sony:

"After multiple contacts with different sources within the Estate and Sony camps, we can confirm that the biopic will not be released on 2025. It is still not confirmed that the movie will be split in two."

Now if they are still thinking about whether to split it or not... given that they obviously have enough material for at least 4 hours of movie, possible more, that would mean two normal sized movies or one giant epic movie marathon.
