they don't understand how badly this will backfire, and every fan should hope that's not the approach they will use.

this movie feels more and more like a receipt for disaster, but we are apparently not allowed to express this sentiment or point that out without being accused of being here with an agenda.

This is not being made for the fans. Branca/the Estate is well aware that fans are more knowledgeable of MJs work and career than anyone they have employed from 2009 to date. They know they are fighting a losing battle against fans who have grown to expect a level of quality from something with Michael Jackson's name printed on it - something which has been rare since the releases started late 2009. Add to this, they will want this to be somewhat of a project of further rehabilitation for the MJ brand among the average listener.

They do not care about addressing the dark sides of MJs with accuracy and decorum. Just like everything else post 2019, its easier to go "Look, we got Thriller!" and point.

Without properly addressing or including such serious allegations that completely derailed his life will never ever lead to a good review from reviewers who will be surely out for blood given the delays, reshoots, confusion etc. They know they are hoping for a commercial hit, and thats all. Just like everything else with this Estate.

This film will annoy us.

How many of us were posting about John Branca back in 2002?

May is quite a bit away. Who knows what wil be thrown out next.
 
I cannot comprehend people like Branca. Greed for money/power motivates his soul. When Michael died he sold his catalog to Sony, the one thing Michael was fighting against. Michael's purity and desire to spread love & unity were seen as a danger to the evil system, he was making it known (the racism, malice, their corrupt agendas) and they silenced him for it. 💔

With a big actor like Teller playing Branca of course he will be portrayed as a massive figure in Michael’s life and perhaps one who will be in constant conflict with Jaafar throughout the movie about all things business, personal persona etc and relationships with children , you bet your ass it will be Branca who tells Michael he should not be associating himself with kids and to think about his image etc.

Branca will be himself as advisor , his manger aka DiLeo all rolled into one.

Ps , is John McClain a recluse? I forget he even exists
 
Let's remember that cinema and filmmaking were Michael Jackson's biggest passion. he died without fulfilling his lifelong dream to star in a movie, or produce one. so, even more of a reason for why this movie feels so important, and that's why PJ's latest lashing feels kind of unforgivable to me. you don't get to shit in a project about your own father OTHERS have worked so hard for and, IN A MINUTE, contribute to the mediatic circus with your words alone, humiliating your father, his fans and actors such as Colman involved in this movie and just shrug, heading to the next event on the other side of the world while others have to pick up the mess.

I wonder how Jaafar Jackson is feeling at seeing so many people let this movie down, after sacrificing so much (including his own weight) to play his uncle. unfortunately, everyone involved in this BS, whether it's John Branca or PJ looks like a massive asshole and a walking disappointment.

Branca was even involved in Thriller, which will certainly be addressed sufficiently in the biopic.
Branca was hired by Jackson as his lawyer in the early 1980s. Most notably, he helped with the production and release of Michael Jackson's Thriller and bought the Sony ATV Music Publishing in 1985.

MJ the musical was highly criticised for not addressing and covering the period of the allegations and yet it shows no signs of stopping.

I think if the biopic is good, it will be a success just as the musical and MJ One shows have been a success. The latter two are good, hence the success. It's not just us fans that are hungry for MJ content, the world still craves him too judging from how well those shows have done, and this is in spite of the media's constant mud slinging.

Admittedly, it's a wasted opportunity to not address the allegations with the correct gravitas it requires, but I think it was always going to be a case of the biopic being damned if it does address the allegations (critics will accuse it for whitewashing the narrative) and damned if it doesn't (critics will accuse it of ignoring the allegations), I hope it can at least strike a fine balance between the two.

The important thing is that it generates positive interest in MJ, and reminds everyone why he is considered the greatest performer of all time, because that's the real story. And thankfully the fans have done the tireless work of putting out enough information since LN to challenge and correct the false narratives around the allegations, even though that huge burden should not have been left to fans in the first place, and sadly may continue to be left to fans after the release of the biopic.

I choose to be open minded about the biopic, knowing that his own son and nephew are part of it also reassures me. I know the biopic will never meet my insatiable expectations when it comes to MJ content, but I will settle for a good and fair representation of MJ.

If they are making two movies they can always address it in the 2nd part. Although I kinda doubt they'll do that at this point.

Oh god Branca will be the brains behind MJ’s 80s success, he will get fired and then Michael’s life will go downhill before Branca gets hired again and saves the day ….
 
I feel like the media wanted the biopic to be this huge controversy and have all sorts of drama and they are the main ones pushing these negative stories while lionsgate and the people act working on the movie have been silent or positive when they did speak.

So in other words many fans are doing exactly what the media wanted and helping push their false negative narratives.

And Paris (who isn't very smart and very immature in my opinion) is also playing right into their game. She might think she's being a rebel and sticking it to Branca, but ultimately her little stunt only hurts Michael.

That what all anti -estate fans fail to realize, Branca is going to be rich regardless of how you feel about him. Not supporting the estates projects only hurts Michael and Branca is laughing all the way to the bank. Silly fans are often intentionally Michael's worst enemies

The irony of you calling anyone a "silly fan". I'm sorry kelley, but I don't ever recall seeing a post of yours that isn't attacking an individual or a group of people in some way. I'm firmly in the camp that this film will likely be a shit show and I intend to express that fear on this forum to discuss with others. If that upsets you (or as usual, enrages you) you need to find a way to chill. We are all entitled to say and discuss what we want.

@kelley is sometimes a bit blunt but I like her honesty and she is mostly right about being mindful, not only about the guilters but also the fans undermining MJ's legacy imo
