99% sure they're ribbing each other, especially since he was crossing his eyes at the camera a few seconds earlier; guessing it was one of his nephews helping out. Definitely see the Jackson family in him in that moment though lol

Exactly. But that definitely was none of his nephews. The Jacksons didn't have kids that age with bass in thier voice. I dont think we'll ever know who was behind the camera that day

I think they need to put the biopic on streaming services very soon after its release.

People don't tend to go to the cinema that much anymore and prefer to watch Netflix and Amazon Prime. I think it would have been a lot better if they released a Netflix series split into 6-7 episodes about Michael's life, instead of a 3-4 hours-long movie.
 
Have to disagree with the theater-goer numbers; box office totals are trending upwards: 2025 already beat 2024's numbers in June, and forecasted to hit $9 billion. Definitely some good money to still be had, especially over streaming deals:

With streaming releases now coming out less than 2 months after a theater release, I think it's good to have both a higher budget from a film's production and the quick, convenient streaming advantages you mention.
 
A cinema release will always create more hype, more of a wave, more recognition and of course more financial opportunities than a straight to streaming.
A cinema release will always get to streaming eventually and the best advertisement for great streaming numbers is a successful run at the box office.

True true true!! Considering I watched This Is It 10x in the theatre back then god knows how many times I will watch this movie on the big screen as well. The cinematic experience is always the best!

I find this quote tragically sad, that he confused fame and success for love. And I wonder if he ever learned to differentiate between the two.

Could've possibly been an interesting angle for the biopic to explore.

It could also mean that he hoped he would get more love of Joseph if he became more popular..

I don't think he confused anything. It's a common reaction to a lack of love during one's early years. You could think of it as a surrogate. His father didn't give him love and a caring attention during his early years, which is why he fought to get a surrogate love and care throughout his adult life. Of course nobody can replace one's real father.

As MJ made no references to his father or his mother in the above mentioned quote, his reasons remain unclear and thus we can only speculate. And looking for a surrogate love through fame and success still makes it a misplaced love.

What is clear is that MJ states in his own words that he related fame and success to love, and he stated this to Rabbi Schmuley as a fully grown man in his 40s. He isn't particularly referencing his early career, he is reflecting on 'all' his fame and success. He has been married twice and had kids by this time. Interestingly, he doesn't note anything that indicates it used to be an old pattern of thinking, which leaves the probability that he may still have had a warped view of mistaking fame and success for love at the time of this quote. It's not like he said 'I used to think that was the way to be loved/I now know that was the wrong way to look at it'.

I find this sad. I do not say this as any criticism of MJ, and this may well have been a logical conclusion for him to reach given the very unique circumstances he grew up in. But measuring something as profound as love through the cold, harsh and fickle lens of fame and success must have been a difficult way to interpret love, and this is what I find tragically sad. And I hope for his sake that he learnt to differentiate between the two before his untimely passing.
 
Taylor Swift is going to monopolize the month of october and, given that apparently she's releasing something in theaters on october 3rd it was actually astute of Lionsgate to pick another date to release Michael. They probably don't want another big pop or cultural event to share Michael's spotlight once it's out. I wonder how the marketing for this movie will look like
 
Here's a random creative marketing idea. An MJ biopic trailer ahead of the Taylor Swift event would be great exposure. Also before Halloween to capitalize on thriller.

i would logically expect them to drop something around halloween, when Michael's music charts again and then release poster and trailer in november. however rumor has it that it's Universal who will handle the marketing of this movie. i can't wait for the radio silence to finally break and for them to take over

Use AI to recreate the voice of James Earl Jones who says... "Before Taylor Swift ...(long break with various video shots of fans screaming like crazy) there was ...(more shots of berserk fans screaming)... Something along a video I once saw which said so much with so few words... about Michael being called a genious misfit.
