"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

I'm not sure what you were expecting. Gary was(and still is) a pretty slummy area, and I'm pretty sure it also snowed there in the 1960s.

I drove through Gary and saw MJs home. It’s semi, accurate.

Why is everyone being so negative about the biopic just based off of the trailer?
That's what trailers are for though - they either look good, or they don't. They're for discussion.

Also, the vast majority on here are very very positive about it?

Tbf it’s been mostly positive comments . I’ve been negative for things such as it looks fake and too shiny.

I’m now expecting Bohemian Rhapsody 2.0 and something that skims the surface without tackling real issues.
It's pretty much what I expected from the start, until I read they had shot the Neverland Ranch raid - so my expectation raised a bit (and then lowered again obviously)

But yeah, everything screams Bohemian Rhapsody to me and I hated that film with a passion. I share your opinion on the crowd, btw. It was awful in Bo Rhap and doesn't look an better here.

But I don't think the thread should be confined to positive only comments? Who wants to genuinely be in an echo chamber?

When Branca did that video on TikTok saying how this would be different and we don’t shy away from anything etc it really got my hopes up.

I agree the initial rumours about how it was gonna be about Michael fighting back and covering all the gritty stuff and making the audience realise how much nonsense he has to deal with. I imagined the Chandler recording being played out for all to hear , would have been great.

What we are getting is another run in the mill biopic, something like the Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston , Bob Marley movies.

Considering the shit he had to endure and his legacy tainted. I wanted this movie to really set the record straight.

I don't think anything can be as bad as Back to Black, I'm fairly confident. I genuinely felt awful for Amy leaving the cinema at what they did at her expense, it was disgusting.

We might get dangerous? I hope not yet, I think it would be better to wait on that. That’s moving through his story too fast imo
But this is interesting
I believe that after they had to change things and consider a second part, we will not get any Dangerous era stuff in this movie. Will probably be on hold for Part II (if if we actually get one).

I gotta say, I didn't like the idea of Part I & II before, but I'm getting more used to it. It will be nice to see this as a "his story begins" and "his story continues".

If we get a movie with no allegations in it, people will question it. And that's when you announce a Part II to deal with all that. Sounds like a solid plan to me. After all, Michael's life has a pretty clear "division" in my opinion. Before and after the allegations.

I think they've hit the nail on the head (if this indeed turns in to a two part epic).

Part one is all glitz and glamour, the rise of Michael from Gary to superstardom. Its exactly what the "general" audience wants to see. Remind the world how awesome he was, how he literally took over the entire world.

Then part two... Hit them with the tough stuff. Include all the "grit", all the controversy, all the darkness. Show the world how Michael was destroyed by the cynical world around him.

I think we'll get the movie we've all been waiting for. This is just the beginning!

I wouldn't say it's nearly as black or white(no pun intended) as you described. His childhood, the ongoing drama with his family, and the Pepsi commercial(and its ensuing fallout) are all pretty dark and gritty subject matters.

Conversely, the 2nd portion of his life(post BAD) wasn't all doom and gloom. Dangerous/HIStory, special events and awards show performances, countless lifetime achievements, becoming a father, etc. I honestly don't think the overall tone and method of storytelling will differ drastically between the first and second films.

I mean, I hope you're right and they really let loose with the second act(provided the first installment is watered-down, a la 'Bohemian Rhapsody')...but my expectations are tempered.

It will be in part 2
Are people still believing this? How is it not obvious that the studio is simply saying "**** you, we don't want to talk about anything negative"? Basically they're putting their fingers in their ears and singing lalala, hoping everything they don't like will go away.

Exactly. Michael had to endure a lot of adversity in his life. And that's what makes him an interesting character.

There's nothing worse than a movie that simply lists the awards he won. Yawn.

It’s not that they don’t want to talk about it. They made an entire movie about it that they could never release. John Branca is responsible for that.
