A biopic does not need music.

Maybe there's people who don't like rap music, but they watch Straight Outta Compton because they want to understand the culture and the artists involved? They want to understand the people and their lifestyle, without being subjected to obnoxious rapping every 5 minutes.

Same thing with this movie.

Again: a biopic is not musical entertainment.

It is their movie. And they are forbidden to do that per the settlement.

So this is an actual example of where artistic freedom has been limited, and integrity has been taken away - ie the estate's involvement literally makes the film worse.

The quality of the movie is the only thing that counts. Not the critic score. Not the popularity. Not the size of Branca's bank account.

This movie has to be a good film that pleases critics/audeinces and not just die-hard fans like us. It needs to tell the truth, no matter how uncomfortable it may be for some of y'all.

Tons of critics automatically dismissed the Broadway show just on the grounds that it barely addressed the allegations. It was like the actual show itself didnt matter, it was just labelled MJ propaganda from the start. These films CAN'T repeat that.

Yep. It's hard to take the stage show seriously. The movie is absolutely impossible to take seriously because it glosses over some of the most interesting and unusual aspects of the subject matter.

To answer your question, yes I will be disappointed if it makes less.

So here's the thing.

I went to see Hail Mary on Sunday.

I liked it.

So now the question: am I a bad person if I go to watch it again? Will you hate me if I tell my friends to watch it? Will I be banned from this board because I contributed money to the Hail Mary box office profits and potentially prevented "Michael" from taking its rightful place as the biggest grossing movie of the year? Am I insulting MJ's legacy? Maybe I need to stop going to the cinema altogether, just in case another movie gets too popular?

Consider your answer carefully.

My main concern is that Paris' prediction about the movie being nothing but fan-pandering propaganda is true. This movie (and especially the sequel, if there is one), above all else, has to be a good film that pleases critics/audeinces and not just die-hard fans like us. Apparently they stop in 1988. So no integrity has been taken away. Maybe you just wait until you've seen the movie, before shitting on it.

I've watched 3 interviews with the cast and director. They all say this movie takes place from Michael's childhood to early parts of his solo career. This movie shows you how lonely Michael was.

Anyone who fails to "fundamentally misunderstand" the importance of the box office and the reason why it's been a constant topic of discussion in here isn't very bright.

Also, given that Brian (and possibly Roger) from Queen got to see the film recently... what are the chances that Malek could appear very briefly as Freddie? Unlikely, but not beyond the realms of possibility. That's not something they'd put in the trailers, like.

Word of warning with biopic hype people - the 'Time' collector mag coming out for the film has a section dedicated to the false allegations but discusses them as true. Do not buy!

The problem is still, that if you win tickets you have to be very flexible to go there. They could have started the ticket lottery some weeks earlier.

From my POV: I was thinking about going to the premiere because I could travel to Berlin pretty easily but I didn't find any final info if you could only win tickets or if there would also be some tickets you could buy. I think that's what @squirrelinthetree means. There was no clear info like "we will not sell any tickets, it's only possible to attend the event if you win them".

Thank you, yes I meant that. plus, I had neither seen any lottery nor announcement of ticket sales for ppl from Germany until the time of that first posting.

The lottery option at mid to the end of March was in my opinion the optimal solution.

My impression was that there were few, maybe different amounts of options per country and at different times. Besides the one international option, I found two lotteries for people from Germany and those were on the 27th and 29th, one week after I saw options restricted to other countries.
I don't want to complain, but point out how the situation differs by location-based availability.
