"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

i saw it yesterday and i enjoyed it they had some things on display which i didn't expect also they were hosting some things before the movie but i wasn't there (i wish i was tho) cuz i went with my brother and my sister

I agree with the criticism that most of the characters feel too one-dimensional, the brothers barely have a presence and the one sibling that gets the most dialogue is La-Toya but even then all she has is one proper interaction with Michael which was treated more as a joke. Even Michael felt superficial with how he was portrayed as this flawless, bambi-like character who only wanted to create his own songs and unite people through music. I'm not saying they should've painted him in a sinister light but many people said he shared Joe's temper, and he could be greedy and take unwarranted credits for songs even back in the earlier eras so there should've been bits showing he did have his own set of flaws like everyone else, maybe the critics wouldn't have been so eager to call this movie a complete 'whitewash'.

I disagree that Coleman felt like some 'cartoon villain', the only scene I did think it came across that way was when (spoilers) MJ had suffered the burn and Joe was asking if he could perform again instead of worrying for his well-being, but then Joe was shilling for his record label days after MJ had passed away so I guess it wasn't really out of character.

I mourn what the movie was gonna be like before the rewrite, it was gonna be so hard-hitting. The Neverland raid, the strip search, the drug use, going from The Jackson 5 era up until his death, and even if we don't count the parts that went beyond the Bad era we clearly would've gotten more music numbers and parts that were vital for MJ's career (what happened to The Wiz and Man In The Mirror?). I'd give a kidney to have the Cinemacon 2024 teaser be leaked online so we could get an idea of how that version of the movie would've been like. I don't think Part 2 is gonna be able to live up to that version since they're still unable to include the 1993 allegations in any form.

I hear those Brothers now call themselves the Keeper of MJ's artistry. WTF have they ever done besides show the Choreography that belongs to Michael Peters and me, or imitate MJ's movements just like any good MJ Impersonator does. They have contributed NOTHING original.
It's F***** up and very very unfair.
Now the Haters can write that Bush and I are egomaniacs, but those who know us , know the truth. I was going to go tonight, because I love all of the fans who have been so kind to me over the years, but I am so hurt and angry at being overlooked, I just cannot go.

The Estate is shameful as usual.
 
I so wanted to love this but it was ā€˜mehā€™. 6/10. Performances were great but it was so surface level, you almost wonder if they did any basic research beyond Wikipedia. Could have been a great character study of one of historyā€™s most enigmatic and complex geniusā€™ instead it was a highlight reel strung together with some basic drama. The Jacksons An American Dream is a masterpiece by comparison. I mean, itā€™s not badā€¦ once again its just ā€˜mehā€™. Again i gotta reiterate Jafaar beat all my expectations, just wish his acting supported a stronger script and story telling.

Itā€™s going to do huge opening weekend numbers but I fear it will drop off significantly after that. I REALLY hope we get to see a sequel but I seriously doubt it. (hope iā€™m wrong)

Iā€™d give anything to see the original version of this movie. You can really feel that they had to salvage it after the settlement stuff came to light. They did their best, but you can tell they were going for a deeper movieā€¦

This is actually infuriating. So many important people that were critical in MJ's success and career are dead, and the ones that are still alive are being shafted. What are the Estate actually afraid of? Vincent seemed to happy to see that there was an actor for his Beat It character the other week.

It's stuff like this that reminds me why I always flip flop between wanting projects to fail or not.

This is surely why the movie is so disjointed and all over the place. The writing was on the wall for a whole year I suppose.
 
Iā€™ve still not seen it yet but have watched some performance clips online.

Pretty disappointing overall that itā€™s being considered a major dud as a film. Fortunately it seems the audience likes it!

Surprised Michael Bush wasnā€™t at the premiere because heā€™s usually involved with a lot of the estate/family stuff and events.

Unless thereā€™s been a falling out that he never got to design the costumes for the movie?

It's pretty clear that Branca and McClain want all the glory for Michael's career. I can't forget the credits with huge font size saying "Produced by" and their annoying names.
I honestly hope that Paris keeps on fighting for the truth.

Fair enough. I also am concerned that the numbers for the movie will drop significantly after the 1st week. It's bad that fans in here are giving so many mixed reactions.

I think I'll try to take a break from here (at least take a break from this thread) for a bit until I see it myself. I was never expecting a masterpiece but all of this is just kind of ruining my excitement about seeing the movie.

I wonder why not just end the movie with Man in The Mirror in 1992. That could have been good ending too.

The 2nd week % drop is the worry right now, but its still very early days. I was quite pleasantly surprised to be in a full (large screen) cinema last night (Biggest screen in Ireland's 3rd biggest city, for context)

It looks like MJ's name and word of mouth will need to do all the heavy lifting.

It's safe to say this has been critically panned, so that's very much going to go against it unfortunately.
