Michael Jackson: The Experience - Discussion News And Updates Thread

I wonder if this game will come to the Android platform.

So now we have 3 more versions of the game to come - Vita, 3DS and iOS!!!!

An update on sale.

Wii sales are really impressive. But sadly, the others, especially PS3 & XBox 360, were mediocre. Which is ironic, because the latter two were by far superior to the WII.

I wish they had released PS3 & XBox last November as they had originally intended, instead of Off-season.

Let's hope they continue pushing the game for the Holiday this year.

WII Sales: over 3M in just a year

Other platforms (Very disappointing, but keep in mind PS3 & XBox were released 7 months ago, compare to the Wii that came out just before the holiday busy shopping season)

Thanks for the sales info!
I agree the timing for the Kinect and PS Move was bad. I didn't really see any promotion for those versions either, even when they were first released, so it's not surprising that the sales weren't great, even though they were much better than the Wii. Because they are now considered old games I don't think there's much chance of them being promoted by retailers at Christmas unless they discount them to the 'budget price' range.
When the new PS Vida version is released, hopefully it will get some proper promotion - that version looks incredible although the game 'mechanics' don't look very interesting compared to PS Move and Kinect.

The WII version is still selling very well. I personally enjoy it very much, even though i also have the Kinect.

Last week, I went looking for MJTE because i lost mine when i went on vacation, and it was sold out at our local Walmart, but the clerk said they'd get new stock soon because it is selling well.

And ironically, The Black Eye Peas Experience is a disaster. MJTE which is a year old is outselling it on Amazon.

Last year, MJTE had over 220K in first week sale, but BEPTE only had 18K.

Thanks for the sales update. Last week I saw an advert on the TV for the Wii version, maybe it is being promoted again for this Christmas?

I saw an hmv advert earlier. They're selling the wii version for £10. No mention of the other versions.

Great news Bluesky. Had been wondering when it would happe. I expect great things from Japan. And they get all platforms at the same time.

Release Date: December 8th in Japan.

The Experience will be part of fan fest... Will report some news next week.

Great news! They might try to squeeze in more sale. Unlike the Just Dance franchise, filled with one-hit wonders, the music on MJTE is timeless and well known. i think if promoted properly, it could sell well this year.

Hi everyone!

Does anyone know why UbiSoft hasn't followed through on their promise for downloadable songs for the PS3 and the Kinect versions? I thought the DLC option was a major advantage they had over the Wii version and I feel kind of cheated because I'm still waiting for some Invincible songs to be thrown into the mix. They were promising day 1 DLC for the PS3 release which was one of the many reasons why I rushed to get the game immediately instead of waiting for a sale.

They could certainly improve their sales numbers on these 2 platforms with the help of additional songs, there's still plenty of great songs they haven't utilized in the game.

So far my inquiries to the MJTE fb page have gone unanswered, but if anyone has found the answer from another source it would be greatly appreciated :dancin:

Judging by the sales of the Wii version, I am really hoping that they release a sequel. They certainly have enough songs to do it. Not only can they put in the ones that are now exclusive to PS3/360, (Stranger in Moscow, Blood on the Dance Floor, etc.) they can easily put in Invincible songs and other songs that I personally think should've made it in. (Scream and Dangerous come to mind)

So... Hollywood Tonight is in the 3DS version:

The odd thing is, they censored the "She's giving hot tricks to men just to get in" by removing the middle part and replacing it with a section of the first verse...

Slide To Play Q and A: Michael Jackson: The Experience for iPad

NEWS Posted by Andrew Podolsky, <abbr class="published" title="" style="border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; ">8 hours ago</abbr>
At a press event in late October, we had a chance to go hands-on with a number of upcoming Ubisoft iOS games. One of the biggest surprises was Michael Jackson: The Experience for iPad, a rhythm game with some of the most realistic dancing animation and music video visuals we've seen in an iOS game. We spoke with Nathanial Tam, designer for MJ: The Experience, about what to expect when the game launches this Thursday for $4.99.

mjte1.jpg

What kind of information or feedback did you get from the Michael Jackson estate?
Nathanial: The MJ estate was really involved in helping us be true to Michael’s short films in everything we created, from the environments to the costumes that the Michael Jackson avatar wears in the game. We met every week during the production of the game and they were very involved in every decision that was made throughout the course of the project.
How does this game stand apart from other music/rhythm games, like the Guitar Hero or Rock Band iOS games?
Nathanial: Well, unlike other handheld games, we wanted the player to feel a more direct connection between what he was inputting on screen and how the avatar was performing. We wanted the player to actually feel like he was controlling the dance that Michael’s avatar was performing on screen. We’ve even got a Freestyle game feature that allows the player to choreograph the sequence of the dance moves for bonus points in a set amount of time.
20111205_mjte2.jpg

What are your favorite dance moves or locations that made it into the final game?
Nathanial: Some of our favorite locations include the mansion interior for Ghosts, the graveyard from Thriller, and the Egyptian palace from Remember The Time. Fans should also know that we’ve managed to have the skeleton avatar moonwalking and spinning around in Ghosts as well. In fact, many of Michael’s iconic dance moves are used in the game, from the gravity lean in Smooth Criminal to dance off with the Rabbit in Speed Demon.
Is there a way for players to learn the famous MJ moves while playing the game?
Nathanial: We did not include a dancing tutorial like you see in the other versions of Michael Jackson: The Experience. However, there are lots of Michael’s famous moves choreographed and included in the game. We also have a Freestyle mode that allows players to control how the Michael avatar dances on the screen.
20111205_mjte1.jpg

Are there modes for both advanced players and beginners?
Nathanial: For each song, there are 3 levels of difficulty-- easy, medium and expert. Beginners should naturally begin with the easy level of difficulty and seasoned players will find things challenging with the expert level of difficulty.
Are there any special bonus features, like the original music videos, clips of MJ, wallpapers, or audio downloads?
Nathanial: We will offer an in-game special mode called On Demand Performance, in which the player can just enjoy short videos we produced for the game based on Michael’s short films with no interactivity needed. Every time a player unlocks a song to play, that song in On Demand Performance mode will be unlocked accordingly.

That looks great and I would definitely buy it for my phone, but I don't have an iphone.
I wish this would be released on Android but so far I haven't heard any news about that. There are more Android handsets being sold in the world than iphone (Samsung alone sell more smart phones than Apple) and so I'm surprised we haven't seen anything about Android yet. Fingers crossed for the future. It's nice to see that a years after the original game released it's still being released on new platforms. I think it's safe to say the developers and estate consider this game to be a commercial success.

^ Completely agree, I love android and I think it's a lot better than iPhone...Bring on MJTE for Android!

Hmm, just looked at Ubisoft's website and couldn't find MJTE listed anywhere. It doesn't even come up in search results.

Great!

Ubisoft seems to be having issue with their stock. Game is sold out on Amazon & Walmart, and they won't get new stocks until after Xmas, which is ridiculous. The game has been selling really well this holiday season, out selling the new Black eye peas even without ads.

When will the iOS version be out?

I'm not a gamer and decided against buying a game console just for the Experience. I have an iPad and will definitely buy the game.

When done right, with good music and well-designed routines, rhythm games can be wondrously addictive no matter what platform they are released on. Despite being on consoles for some time now, Ubisoft has decided to take the plunge and bring Michael Jackson The Experience HD to the iPad.
As one might expect from a game in the rhythm genre, the idea is to follow on-screen instructions as closely as possible, so that points can be earned. These points are totalled at the end of a routine, and the player is then assigned a rank based on how well they have done. If the player has a Game Center account, scores will also be uploaded to that and compared against people around the world.
From the start, the player is treated to some high production values. The Michael Jackson character model is well detailed, and the animation is smooth. Throughout a routine, there are also clips from the relevant music video, although these have been rendered using CGI. They still look good, though.
When listened to through a decent set of headphones, the sound in Michael Jackson The Experience HD is absolutely fantastic. Fans will get a little shiver down their spine when the introduction to ‘Beat It’ kicks in, and all the songs provided are crystal clear.
Unfortunately “all the songs provided” amount to a rather miserly four: Beat It, Smooth Criminal, Speed Demon and Blood on the Dance Floor. There are some additional ones displayed in the menu, such as Billie Jean, but they have to be purchased at $1.99 each. More songs will also be made available at a later date. I understand why such a small number of songs have been provided, but it does dent replay value quite significantly unless the player is willing to pay for additional content.
The routines themselves have been well designed, requiring the player to swipe and tap out various patterns in time to the music. There are also three difficulty levels, with the hardest requiring Jedi-like reflexes to master. Unfortunately, there were a few occasions where the game didn’t correctly recognise the move I had traced on the screen.
Michael Jackson The Experience HD is a really enjoyable rhythm game, with some great visuals and stunning sound. Saying that, unless the player is willing to buy additional songs the entire game can be over in well under an hour, and that includes repeat plays to boost high scores. Game Center achievements do add longevity, but again some are tied to songs that need to be purchased.

Excuse my ignorance. Again, I'm not a gamer. So, to play Experience on iPad is like playing Angry Bird. One just needs to keep tapping the screen?
