UK Chart Update

Number Ones remains at #57 in the UK album chart.

Source: BBC Radio 1

Hahahahaha Number Ones has sold about as much in the UK as it has in the US.....which is funny considering that the US is like a third of the world music market (as well as a third of MJ's market) and Britain is around 7%......the British just cannot get enough of the King of Pop.

Ok fellow MJ statisticians, (I know I can't be the only one who plans on throwing a party the day "BAd" is finally certified 9x platinum, after 13 yrs of waiting!) has anyone else gone over these numbers in comparison to other Soundscan totals we've received in recent years? They seem a little odd to me, something doesn't add.

For example, the Soundscan totals for "BAd" as of May 2005 were 816,190 (original cd) and 194,245 (special edition cd). That combines for about 1,010,000 copies of the "BAd" album sold in the Soundscan era, AS OF 2 YRS AGO. Now, two years later, going by the above info, that total has jumped to 1,253,000! Now, I would love to believe "BAd" has sold about 243,000 copies in the U.S. in the last two years, but as anyone who keeps track of this stuff, that seems extremely unbelievable --- "BAd" routinely sells only about 15,000 copies each year here in the U.S. (e.g. it sold 14,570 in 2005; 17,645 in 2004)...

As you see, I'm just taking the grand totals released by Soundscan in recent years (May 2005 to be specific) and comparing it against this recent one of April 2007. Something doesn't add up... You can do the same for "Off The Wall" -- 375,000 copies have sold in the 2 yr period between May 2005 and now?? (even though it routinely moves about 40,000 copies each year in the 00's) ... And "Dangerous" -- 152,000 copies have sold in the 2 yr period between May 2005 and now?? (even though it routinely moves about 15,000 copies each year in the 00's).
:wtf2

Impossible. It also doesn't make sense given what we know in week to week sales.
  So I wonder, did Soundscan revise its numbers recently? Where did all these sales come from?? I believe in wishful thinking, but there's no way sales of these albums have skyrocketed tenfold in the past two years because we're able to watch their week to week totals and know better than that (not to mention the fact we're in between MJ eras and things are super slow). So are those April 07 numbers accurate? Has Soundscan discovered an enormous amount of sales it somehow missed or overlooked?

First and most importantly the soundscan figures listed are accurate. After Michael’s acquittal in June 2005 his catalogue sales jumped big time, search this thread and you’ll find it. We are fans of Michael Jackson but wouldn’t stoop to lying and making up false sales figures. It appears you have gotten confused by the Special Edition totals being added into the final tally. BAD stands at 1.035 million as of April 2007 not the 1,235,000 you came up with. I think you added the 1.035 million to the deluxe in parenthesis because maybe it was confusing the way it was listed, if you had read it carefully I stated the original and deluxe had already been added together. The deluxe figures on the side were to show the amount of copies sold since 2001. I hope this clears of any confusion you have. Here is a better way of explaining it and hopefully when you add again you’ll see I haven’t posted over the top figures. Also where indicated I included more recent sales than listed in this thread:

May 2005

1. Dangerous (Original): 5.784 million
2. HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I (2-CD): 2.532 million

Sort of a throw in post, but most of the MJ albums I have are the special edition versions.

Off the Wall - S.E.
Thriller - Original and S.E
Bad - S.E.
Dangerous - Original cassette tape, original album and S.E. album

My aunts and other family members [i.e. old folks] are the ones that had the originals, so I stole it from the them and added it to my collection. lol

We all know that thriller has sold 59 mil. copies now according to sony. Now does anyone know the worldwideSHIPMENTS of thriller ???
If its sales are above 59 mil. so could the shipments be already over 65.000.000. ???
