If Michael were out there aggressively promoting Thriller 25, I am willing to bet that the same number of people (in fact some of the same people) now complaining about his lack of promotion would then start complaining that Michael is "living in the past" and "celebrating the old with nothing new to promote." Like many things in Michael's life, he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.
Anyways, Thriller 25 is expected to continue being promoted throughout the rest of the year, and the year is still young so anything could happen.
^^ What he said.
no one is saying promote aggressively, but he's not even being seen at all-_- don't you guys find that strange?
Not really. I think a few ppl have made great points in here why it's not strange at all.
I'm glad that Michael is not doing any promotion for "Thriller 25". It would just make it seem like he was living in the past if he did that. It's smart of him to keep a low profile.
See what TCSM was saying?
Anyway, I think Michael will do what he feels comfortable doing. He did the magazines, he attended the WMA's and got a tribute then. Personally, if that T25 television special is still in the works (as was previously reported altho we know things change) it's actually good that he's out of sight. When or if it actually airs, the ratings will be thru the roof. Thinking about it now, it may have been a good thing that all the other tributes didn't happen becuz it will make the T25 one more special. If he attended too many Thriller tributes, by the time the T25 special aired, ppl would be like "another one?" I'm just throwing some possibilities out there. We just have to sit tight and wait to see what happens. Right now, I'm looking forward the T25 book coming out this summer. It'll go nicely with my casebook CD/DVD. And then there's a new SoBe commercial that's supposed to come out. Who knows what that's going to add as far as promotion. The Sony/BMG reps have already stated that they planned to promote the project in a subtle way...which is why I was a bit surprised to see those massive banners outside some stores. They are picking and choosing the least amount of ways to get the most exposure...whether that be directly (in-store displays, online ads and websites) or indirectly (SoBe commercial; viral videos). And it's actually working. I know some think well, if these subtle things are working so well, imagine how bigger it could be if promotion was heavier... well, like others have stated in this thread and countless of others related to this subject, this project seems to be a build-up of something else to follow. So, the slow, steady and subtle tactic is more than likely right on target.
As for this sort of promotion working with a new album, who knows? I haven't seen very much promotion by Madonna for her new single and look how well it's done. Times are changing not only as far as how people get their music and contracts are done between artists and record companies, but promotional tactics seem to be changing as well. It will be interesting to see how Michael chooses to promote new material. He may go the old route, take the subtle one T25 has taken, or find a way to combine the 2. Or he may try something completely new.
Basically, I think some fans are concerned about the lack of MJ visibility for T25 becuz they need that MJ fix. If he was out promoting this thing more heavily, we'd get to see and hear from him regularly. It's okay, tho...don't feel bad. My pinkie-toe just twitched.
