Its not the dancer's fault! Michael has amazing body isolation. He is able to isolate any muscle / joint in his body and just move that. See how Michael is only moving his lower body, his shoulders are almost not moving, that's what creates this mesmerizing effect. The other guy is swaying his whole body. That's why his movements never feel vulgar, he knows exactly which part to move and how much. (Shakira is another dancer who does it very well in hips don't lie). Also clear in the hip thrusts here, only his abs are moving (and mikezilla is bouncing

, I guess that part he could not control

Oooooh, Hiker! Gonna have to disagree with you, here.
Yes, objectively, Michael is very good at isolating parts of his body. Sure. But that's not the point I was making and it's not what is going on in that gif I bumped, imo. A gymnast or a circus performer can isolate body parts and do amazing things and make it all look really dramatic or even sexy, perhaps.
Dancers are doing something else. It's not so much the extent to which they can isolate a body part or even what they do with that body part, it's what and how they are communicating.
In one sense, we are in total agreement. It's the level of physical control that Michael has. And, yes, that helps to create the mesmerising effect, as you say. But it's really something else, imo. That guy is a good backing dancer and he's doing exactly what he's supposed to be doing. But he's not *saying* anything. Michael is doing more than just moving a body part to create a physical effect, he's communicating stuff to his audience. Not just the arousing, sexy stuff but many, many other things.
I have zero ability to write about dance so I'll just leave it there. I guess it comes down to personal reactions, doesn't it? Like listening to a song where your reaction to it can be so different to what the next person gets from that song.
I will go and look at this Shakira video, you've mentioned it a couple of times. I don't rate her but, well, let's see.
