mj question

He can play percussion and he can play guitar (how well I'm not sure) and he can play keyboard and piano a little bit (again how well I'm not sure). I don't think he's been asked about it much so it's hard to tell.

sheesh. he's just an all around artist!
does he play in any of his songs??

He plays percussion in Don't Stop Til You Get Enough. He plays guitar on Morphine. On Invincible album the booklet said he played instruments but what they were wasn't clear. I can't think of any other songs where he's played an instrument.

Michael plays guitar, bass, drums, and piano.

I didn't know he plays bass, thanks for that tidbit :). Do you know whether's he has played bass on any of his songs?

I was wondering whether on the Pepsi I'll Be There advert whether he is actually playing piano or whether it was pre-recorded; does anybody know?

I'm not sure, I've always wondered that myself. He might have just been miming.

I wish that they did some kind of interview just on his music and about what instruments he plays and things. I've learned small bits from various interviews and programmes and from others and things but most interviews etc prefer concentrating on his personal life which is a shame.

I'm sure he plays various instruments but I think I've also read somewhere that he records the melody in some kind of recorder and then he gives it to his people to make the song. He also sometimes gets frustrated when he can't get the melody right with the instruments as they don't produce the sounds he wants. Can't remember where I've read that but it must be one of his old interviews.

Yeah I remember hearing that too. He says he beatboxes the individual sounds like the strings, the bass, drums etc into a tape recorder so that he doesn't forget and it helps in the studio so the musicians know how he wants it to sound.

According to professional musicians who record with Jackson, there is no way how Michael's ability to play instruments can be called as "a little".

He needs other musicians just to have like 100 songs produced for the album and for the sake old-fashioned way of recording, where people get to play their instruments together and thus songs goes recorded. That is not in every case, though, but this is main thing. After that, of course, additional sound layers can be added with other instruments played by Jackson himself or musicians.

you can look at the cover of the albums and see what instruments Michael did in that album;-)

I dont think Michael can play Piano.. there's need years and years of hard study and Michael dont had time to learn piano in professional way..
he never show himself or his hands really play the piano... I remember in the spot of Pepsi he don't show his hands play it.. LOL

I think he can play hearing notes, like a natural thing.. but I doubt that he can play music, just accords...

For the other instruments, yeah, Michael can play guitar and bongos etc... thing like that...

There is no way to think about it ourselves; we have Brad Buxer and Greg on that -- both said Michael is good with the piano.

Pepsi commercial has nothing to do with this -- Jackson just does not like being video recorded playing instruments, even though he plays really many.
